25.01.2022 Lovely little appreciation gift from our Coordination Unit for all of us Educators in our scheme

25.01.2022 Today’s adventures - staying safe and finding activities to keep the children occupied these school holidays is being hampered by the wet weather. Today the rain held off long enough so we could go explore the Botanic Gardens and do the Red Arrow Walk. Good exercise for all of us - learning more about their world, exploring nature, and seeing some local wildlife.

23.01.2022 Thank you Hazel See you in person next term

22.01.2022 Thursday’s Adventures - time for our annual trip to the Atherton Tablelands so the children can learn a little bit about primary production - where some of their food and water comes from. I feel this excursion is an essential part of my program so children can gain some understanding that food just doesn’t magically appear on supermarket shelves and the water in their taps has to come from somewhere. I am doing two trips this year in an endeavour to ensure all my daycare children get to have this experience, connecting with community and learning about the word in which they live. We always start our day with picking their own strawberries at Shaylee Strawberries farm.

22.01.2022 Photos from our Kuranda Train adventure on Wednesday, what a wonderful way to spend a day, 3 of us Educators did the journey together with our little people and we ended up getting a whole carriage to ourselves.

22.01.2022 We used our new paint sticks to make our cards for Father’s Day, celebrating all the Dads, Daddies, StepDads, Grandads, Poppies and Uncles we have in our lives. We quickly discovered we needed to wet the paint a little bit so it would transfer to the paper properly. The paint sticks were much easier, cleaner and less ‘tickly’ than using a paint brush and paint. The children could also choose whatever colours they wanted, they also chose the colour paper for the card.

20.01.2022 We’re still going, and will keep going until we’re told we have to stop, our families need us

19.01.2022 So I found this in my lounge room today, can anyone tell me what they think it is?

18.01.2022 Story time with Uncle Robbie. When the story in the book is not the story he tells. It’s meant to be quiet time so better stop them before they get too crazy. It’s wonderful to see the warm bond the children have with all our family, one of the many great positives of Family Daycare.

18.01.2022 End of our first week of school holiday adventures - Friday we decided to explore a different part of our world and headed up to Koah to check out Koah’s Ark Nature Park. It was a bit of a drive and we drove straight past and had to do a u-turn, I’ll blame my navigator but the children loved it, so much so that Lincoln didn’t want to leave. It’s right next to the community hall and they have play equipment you can use for free, everyone respects this and packs it away for the next person to use. Will definitely take the children back here again.

18.01.2022 Keeping up with their Educational Programs, COVID-19 style using Zoom. Music Therapy with Miss Jaye on Tuesday’s and Butterfly Wings with Hazel on Wednesday’s. The children are missing their friends and teachers, this is a good way to keep their sense of belonging and connection to these groups going until we can all be together again.

16.01.2022 The only outing we can go on at the moment. Children getting in on the fun of everyone dressing up to take their wheelie bins out and back in

16.01.2022 What’s cooking at the Durante’s? All our lucky mums/mother figures will find out this Sunday. The boys and Uncle Robbie are no help in keeping it a surprise

15.01.2022 Today’s adventures - connecting with their community, learning more about their world and how to interact with animals in a safe and respectful manner. Thanks so much to Anita and her lovely crew, our children had a wonderful time as per usual.

12.01.2022 Thursday’s Adventures - our third and last stop of the day was at Gallo Dairyland, it’s an invaluable experience for the children to see a working dairy farm first hand, seeing where their milk comes from before it ends up in a bottle in their fridge

12.01.2022 Time for the Home Ec portion of our ‘Learning at Home’. Learning what ingredients we need for Anzac Biscuits, measuring, taking turns and then waiting for the yumminess to cook. Our first batch didn’t have enough flour but they are super yummy, second batch looking like actual biscuits. Learning more about our world- We have been talking about what everyone is going to do on Anzac Day, I told them we would be standing on our driveway at 6am, normally we would be at the Edmonton parade, everything is so different this year, our children have learnt a new word with ‘coronavirus’ and a whole different way of being but they are all coping so wonderfully.

12.01.2022 Who’s ready for an adventure?!! We’re off on the train to Kuranda today, learning more about our world and connecting with our local community. Everyone is excited

12.01.2022 Week 2 - Tuesday’s adventures - Tanya Brown joined us once again, this time we took the children on a nature walk exploring their local natural and built world and connecting with community at the Chinese Friendship Garden and Flecker Botanic Gardens Boardwalk.

11.01.2022 So we did some jigsaw puzzles together yesterday and it went well, so figure we’re up for a bigger challenge now. Wish us luck

10.01.2022 Happy Mother’s Day everyone

09.01.2022 Today’s adventures - exploring their natural world with a rainforest walk part way up Ivan Evans Walk and back followed by challenging themselves physically with a play at Cantoni Park.

09.01.2022 No outings allowed, no worries Keeping everyone occupied and safe at my home

08.01.2022 We’ve started back doing our Educational Programs face-to-face at our scheme’s office this term and the children are absolutely loving it, seeing everyone via Zoom meetings just isn’t the same as actual personal interaction. The children are coping quite well with the precautions needed to ensure our continued safety during the COVID pandemic. They have definitely noticed the changes in their life, one of the children asked if they could go and play during our break at Butt...erfly Wings, when I said yes, she ran excitedly to the slide, calling out, ‘Yay! I’ve really missed these things!’ We have not been to any local playgrounds or attractions since the beginning of March, only recently have we been going on nature walks and restarted playgroup at other Educator’s homes. As Educators we have all been working with our families to ensure their children continue to flourish and achieve their learning goals during these uncertain times.

07.01.2022 Thursday’s Adventures - our second stop of the day is at Tinaroo Dam, the water looked quite low so I checked and found it’s at only 63%. We need rain to fill it up so the farmers have plenty of water for their crops and the people have plenty to drink. The children decided there was no way they were drinking water from the dam unless someone cleaned it first

06.01.2022 We’ve made progress with the 4D Sydney puzzle, only took nearly two weeks Children have told me I won’t want to pack it away now, they kept giving up and going off to do easier puzzles. Tomorrow we will finish putting on the buildings and it will be complete, finally. What an incredible mental challenge for all of us, sorting pieces and finding where they go

01.01.2022 Week 2 - Monday’s adventures. Our second trip to the Atherton Tablelands to experience where some of their food and water comes from. Some children got a second trip this year and still enjoyed it just as much as their first. We also learnt an important lesson in the current situation with COVID - check opening hours Gallo Dairyland has changed their opening days, not sure if the children were more disappointed about not seeing the cows or not getting their usual chocolate cow treat I buy them. Overall a successful day and good start to the second week of the holidays.
