20.01.2022 Time to take responsibility for our health and the health of others. Please keep an eye out on the elderly in your street and lend a hand where you can being mindful of the 1.5 metre rule to keep them and yourselves safe. Australians are great at coming together and helping each other. The story below explains it well when we do the wrong thing.

20.01.2022 International Access to Information Day (or IAI Day in short) on 28 September 2020 is a timely reminder for Queenslanders just how important information is during crises, like the current pandemic or natural disasters. IAI Day is an opportunity for the community and government to come together and acknowledge the right to information and how it positively impacts our daily lives. This year the IAI Day theme is Building trust through transparency.... When Queenslanders have timely access to accurate information, it keeps them informed and empowered. Access to government information also supports our response to and recovery from a crisis. Weve seen this in action over the past few months. Proactive disclosure of information has been critical in influencing community behaviour and achieving health, economic and social responses during the pandemic. Queenslands economic recovery from COVID-19 will rely on access to information, so individuals and governments can make informed decisions. IAI Day has replaced Right to Information Day which has been celebrated on the same date to mark International Right to Know Day since 2009. While the intent is still the same, the name change brings greater consistency across Australia and with the United Nations. Visit the Office of the Information Commissioners (OIC) website for more information, resources and a list of virtual events in support of IAI Day. The OIC has also released a short animation to help explain information access rights in Queensland. 20.01.2022 Shared from another post. This is a little close to home. With lock down happening now and many people feeling the pinch from no work we all need to be vigilant. Watch out for your own home and those of others. Neighbourhood Watch What a wild night! Chevy woke us up barking like there was someone in the house. Stephan ran down hall and saw my car interior lights on but had quick look and couldnt see anyone so we thought they had run out and were in backyard, walked ou...t and saw fly screen pulled off a window. I then went back inside cause Chevy started barking again - turns out there was several 15-18yr olds hiding in the spare room after breaking in and trying to steal the cars. One had run into kitchen to grab a knife but I didnt see them, then heard stephan screaming and the 2 of them had jumped out the window at him. Stephan got a good swing it at the guy but ended up with a stab wound to his hand (with our own damn steak knife!) while chasing them off. Police and dog squad managed to get them down the other end of the estate. After a full forensic work up, the police left and Stephan went to hospital to get stitches. 5 minutes later I heard a bump in the cupboard. I quickly put it together that our neighbors saw 3 of them but only 2 left our place, grabbed a kitchen knife and opened the closet to find another 15yr old hiding, so had her pinned down until police came back to get her! We are so lucky that Chevy alerted us and we got up quick so they panicked without getting our cars and we got the calais key back that one of them took with them. Horrible but could of been so much worse! Seems even when everyone is home in isolation, these assholes still need drug money and cars Thanks to Mum, Bridget, Fanie and family for your support! EDIT: This was at North Harbour Estate, Burpengary East, we did not know or have any affiliation to the kids who were opportunist wandering through the estate looking for trouble.

14.01.2022 This past weekend has seen QPS very busy with accidents, break ins and scuffles. Please be vigilant when driving on the roads especially in the wet weather. We have more rain forecast this week. Also, make sure your car is locked when outside your home. There are more and more cars being stolen. Security is important at all times. Curb your anger too. I know we are all anxious and feel caged up with Covid 19 but fighting is not the answer. QPS are being overwhelmed. Let us do our part to help them

09.01.2022 Shared from another site but something to be aware of. Disgusting SCUM BAGS!!!! And so it begins! Just to let you know these phone calls are going round. Good morning, According to our system, you are likely to have been in close proximity to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19. This means that you now need to self-isolate for 7 days and take a COVID-19 test.'... 'OK. Can you tell me who that person was?' 'I'm not able to tell you that. That is confidential information.' 'Right. Um... so ....' 'But you do need to be tested within the next 72 hours. So can I just get the best mailing address so that we can send a kit to you?' 'Ok (gives address)' 'Thank you - and I just need to take a payment card so that we can finalize this and send the kit to you.' 'Sorry - a payment card? I thought this was all free?' 'No - I'm afraid not. There is a one-off fee of $50 for the kit and test results. Could you read off the long card number for me, please, when you're ready.' 'No - that's not right. 'I'm afraid it is. Can you give me the card number please - this is very important, and there are penalties for not complying.' Puts the phone down. This is how scammers work. And vulnerable people will fall for it. Don't fall for it...! COPY and PASTE watch out See more

04.01.2022 Police would like to warn residents of a scam that is currently occurring across Moreton. Caboolture Police have noticed an increased number of phone calls in the past weeks regarding a scam where residents are receiving calls saying that they are wanted on warrants. The scammers then ask for the person to provide identifying information.... The resident is then advised that they have 24 hours to pay the fines associated with the warrants by a wire transfer or they will be arrested. Police wish to advise the community that police will not call and request this information and will certainly not request you to pay by a wire transfer. The scammers often spoof phone numbers to mask where the calls are originating from. Dont call numbers they give you or the caller ID on your phone look up the phone number for the organisation they claim to be representing from an independent source such as their website. Senior Sergeant OLoughlin from Caboolture Police Station said to remain vigilant with your personal identifying information. Your personal details are your identity, so please do not share them protect them and protect yourself, Senior Sergeant OLoughlin said. If you have paid money to one of these scams, you can report it to ReportCyber. A similar scam has been previously reported to Scam Watch with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC). You can read about it here. Learn more about scams at http://www.scamwatch.gov.au/ and R U In Control. If you have information for police, contact Policelink by providing information using the online suspicious activity form 24hrs per day at www.police.qld.gov.au/reporting. You can report information about crime anonymously to Crime Stoppers, a registered charity and community volunteer organisation, via crimestoppersqld.com.au 24hrs per day.

02.01.2022 QLD Road Safety Week 23 -28 August Sign up for road safety: Driving to conditions myPolice on Aug 24, 2020 @ 11:44am This week is Queensland Road Safety Week and together with the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) were committing to putting road safety first. Road conditions can change due to a variety of factors from weather, animals, the environment, traffic and roadworks so its important to drive to the prevailing conditions.... This includes on our states rural roads, where there were 136 lives lost and 1,915 people seriously injured in 2019 thats more than 60% of total lives lost on our roads. When driving on rural and remote roads, remember: Reduce your speed before nearing the edge of the road and prepare for surface change the edge may drop off or have loose stones. If youre driving towards the west, the afternoon sun can affect your vision. Consider this when planning your trip. Keep an eye out for livestock and wildlife on or at the side of the road, especially at night. Slow down and beep your horn if you see animals at the edge of the road about to cross. Every hazard on our roads has an impact on how your car will behave. When the conditions outside the vehicle change, you need to adjust the way you drive. Not driving to the conditions can have serious consequences for all road users, so pay attention to whats happening on the roads, slow down and put road safety first, every trip, every time. Plan ahead and stay safe Familiarise yourself with different conditions that you may experience by visiting https://www.qld.gov.au///driving-safely/driving-conditions. Before you head out on the road, check out the road conditions and be prepared: https://roadconditions.racq.com.au/ Queensland Road Safety Week is running from 24 28 August. Put road safety first and show your support by signing up for road safety: Think of a road safety message you want to share, then put it on a sign or create one using a TMR template. Take a photo of your sign, making sure we can read your road safety message. Share your photo!
