24.01.2022 This southerly can’t come quick enough!! The breeze is picking up and I can hear a few spots of rain on the roof. Hoping for a downpour to cool things off but I think it’s going to miss us. The poor girls are still feeling the heat. How did everyone cope today with the feathered friends? Any tips to share for keeping them cool? We prepared early and fed them at 7am, soaked the flocks favourite shady spot under a hedge, added 2lt ice blocks to their drinking water and turned the mister on the garden then left them be. We’ve found the quieter they are the better chance they have of keeping cool and making it though a day like today.
21.01.2022 Well well well..... look who was just discovered under a bush in our neighbours yard sitting on 3 eggs, thirsty and starving!!! Lady has been desperately trying to hatch eggs and since April has been broody 4 times! As awful as it felt, we were doing the responsible thing and had been taking the eggs away as to not hatch more chickens into the world when so many already need homes but she had other plans!! She’s been missing for the past two weeks. We had looked everywher...e for her and found a bunch of grey feathers in the yard and heartbreakingly thought she had been taken during the day by a hawk or a dog....Nope!! Her mama instincts were so strong she had decided to run away and make a nest next door where she could hatch her babies in peace! With roughly a week left on incubation we have made the decision to let her become a mama. I couldn’t live with the thought of stopping her now so close to the end. I’m not sure how successful they will be hatching after we had to move her and her eggs to a safe place so late in the process but I guess we’ll just have to wait and see. If they do hatch they are going to be the strangest looking chickens with a mix of her and Russell! See more

08.01.2022 UPDATE!! In less than 10 mins an incredible person has offered to adopt the girls! They will be headed off to their forever home in the morning!! Thank you to Jut for stepping up and giving these girls a happy safe retirement! We are seeking a true hero that would like to adopt these 5 gorgeous girls that were surrendered today because now at just only 3 years old, they are of no use to their previous owner since their laying has slowed down. I am feeling so sad for thes...e ladies, not only have they been replaced by another 5 younger hens who’s fate will sadly be the same, they have been ripped away from the only home they’ve known as well as the head of their family, their loving rooster I am thankful however that their owner did reach out before he killed them and I hope that we can find them a loving place to call home where they are valued as incredible living beings and not for their eggs. 04.01.2022 Our beautiful Cher is looking amazing!! She now has all her feathers back including her tail and has reached a healthy weight. She’s come so far in just a few months, we’re so proud of her!

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE share this post and get his face out there and get him home where he belongs. Someone must know something. If you have him or even think you have seen him please contact Sam or drop him to the nearest Vet, no questions asked so he can be scanned and returned to the only family he has ever known
