20.01.2022 Here I am at the Big Red Bash in Birdsville just last year on July 18th. What a difference a pandemic makes? 2020 is effectively cancelled for me and most artists. I’m beginning to wonder if we’ll ever see those kind of festivals again? If at all? Any gig, ever? As I limp towards forced retirement (but too young for a pension) I tell myself a break from performing is a blessing but I just don’t know it. Sorry for all the cancellations. Sorry for the cancellation of live ...streaming for April 18th. I can’t get it together. It’s not just that I’m old school; I’m hold up in an off-grid situation with poor internet connection- which doesn’t normally bother me but it does make it problematic when it comes to streaming a live performance. So, let me refigure. But first, I’m looking to sell - Cars, guitars, books, CD’s- anything of value- old lousy poems, discarded lyrics. But is anyone buying? I think not. I wouldn’t mind a driving job. (I had an NT truck license once but it lapsed) It’d be neat to be able to keep working alone like that- no need of an audience. If it comes to pass that 10 or more souls are allowed to gather again and if - anyone’s game- maybe I can crank a few tune’s out at their table or campfire. Keep safe people. Grow your own food. 19.01.2022 As someone who is comfortable with solitude- in fact I crave it at times- and given that I’ve always had hermit tendencies anyway these Covid-19 restrictions have just made me even more so. When you live off grid, without TV (by choice) it’s easier to withdraw from the world. If not for the internet I wouldn’t know what was going on. Each day I watch the sky and it tells me what’s coming. The birds let me know what to do:- Wake up! Get up!, Start work! Settle down! Go to sle...ep! Nevertheless, I must snap out of the day dream, pick up the guitar this Saturday May 23rd at 2pm WA time ( 4pm EST ) and play a live stream set on the Broome based, Saltwater Music Festival Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/thesaltystage/ As you may know, Broome is one of those places high on my list to be- if I could get away. 13.01.2022 To all those who know and love the Warumpi Band if you’ve not heard Tjungu - the album by me and Sammy Butcher - you are missing out.
12.01.2022 There’s light at the end of the tunnel and I’d like to think it’s not a train. But the Covid-fire sale must go on. For those who may be interested, I’m offering a 2005 American Telecaster Deluxe. Here I am holding it. Purchased in Nashville in 2007 (it was a one owner then), it’s a clean sounding and versatile instrument but I’ve done very little work with it since. Thanks for all enquiries- Ive accepted a deposit on this guitar.
11.01.2022 Unfortunately Stephen Pigram has had to cancel his appearance at the Lake Bolac Eel festival next week and will be replaced by the very talented Benny Walker. I'll still be there of course- as long as I don't get stuck in tassie this weekend.
09.01.2022 Here I am in close consort with our old mate Byjantic Man in Wemba Wemba country. I’m hoping for a bit of wise counsel for the road ahead. I’ve got to drive to Alice Springs and do my 2 weeks in quarantine so I can make the funeral for the original drummer of the Warumpi Band. But first, tomorrow (Sunday) from 3.30pm NT time ( or 4pm AEST), I’m singing for the trip and the anti- fracking campaign on the Don’t Frack The Territory FB page. Here's the link: https://www.faceboo...k.com/events/2562712460656925/ If you can afford to donate, it will be greatly appreciated. If you can’t, that’s ok. https://www.gofundme.com/f/neil-murray-dont-frack-the-terri P.S If you don’t know who or what Byjantic Man is:- see my album Blood & Longing- his story is there.
05.01.2022 I head to Port Fairy Folk Festival this weekend. It will be the first time I've been able to take a 5 piece band to the iconic south west vic music event. Bound to be hoot. Catch up with many like minded souls and get to see some of my favourite artists perform. After that its Tassie on March 14th then the Lake Bolac Eel Festival on March 21st which will feature Broome treasure Stephen Pigram. Further ahead I'm aiming to tour by road to WA in June. Covid19 or no- we'll keep rolling. See my latest clip for " Cry My Darling"- to save the Barka ( Darling River) indeed all rivers https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vdw3EcGHfLM
02.01.2022 Brother's in hand
01.01.2022 Still holding out in the shack. Doesn’t look like restrictions will be eased anytime soon. I’m reading, writing, cutting wood and doing odd building/fixing jobs outside when the weather’s fine. It’s a bit blowy today. To those who think I’m just churning out songs everyday- I wish I was but it’s not like that. It gets harder and I’ve got less to say. It’s a bit like fishing- once I could get a lot of bites from shore. Now I have to go further out to sea. Some days there’s nothing. Yes folks, I’m gonna give the live performance streaming concept another crack this Saturday night ( April 25th) at 9pm on the On The Brink page. I hope it comes across. You can donate to the artist if you’re able.
