I’m pretty superstitious with her wooden spoons- I use one for sauce, one for baking, and one in the Nelly’s Holy Cannoli kitchen for mixing the cannoli batter. I’ll be doing a few extra delivery days throughout the month of December to cater for Christmas parties and get togethers. I’ll also be doing special Christmas deliveries on Wednesday the 23rd of December, so that you can order cannoli for Christmas Day! This is one of the two Pizzelle irons I use in the Nelly’s Holy Cannoli kitchen- that’s right, I make all those shells every week with just two machines! .... . Pizzelle are the worlds oldest cookies, originating in the south of Italy in Abruzzo, hundreds of years ago. ‘Pizze’ comes from the Italian word for ‘round’ and ‘flat’, and the ending ‘elle’ means small. This is the modern electric iron, originally they were made with cast metal plates held over an open flame. . . My Nonna would have made thousands of Pizzelle over the years. One of my earliest cooking memories is being in the kitchen with Nonna while she filled the entire dining table with neat little stacks of Pizzelle. See more

It opened in 1956, and is still operating today! @tcavallarosons is the holy grail of cannoli, and I can’t wait to get back over to Melbourne to visit their store again. .... . My family and I made a special trip out to their store to try their cannoli a few years ago. We were welcomed as if it was our Nonna’s house. The lovely Sera Cavallaro gave my little boy, who was just a baby at the time, a little bowl of their vanilla patisserie cream, and we’d never seen him so happy. To this day I am yet to find cannoli or biscotti that compare to theirs. There’s a very good reason they’ve been operating for 64 years- and I hope one day my son will be able to take his children there. See more

09.01.2022 N E L L Y ‘ S H O L Y C A N N O L I . . This is a photo of my Nonna and I. Her name is Incoronata, and she is THE ORIGINAL Pizzelle Queen. (fitting- as her name means ‘crowned’ in Italian) .... . My Nonna is a constant source of inspiration for me. She played an integral role in my upbringing- I grew up in her kitchen, smelling her sauce and cooking things from her garden. Nonna was known for her Pizzelle Biscotti, and they were the first thing she taught me to cook. I’ve been making them for 34 years now, but mine will never be as good as hers (and she’ll tell you that, too) . . When the world took a strange turn this year, I took it as an opportunity to be brave, and start a business of my own. I wanted it to be something that I could do well, and something that’s from my heart- and it’s Nonna’s Biscotti.
