24.01.2022 A quick piece I made today. It’s an altered quote and I’m titling it Grab him by the ego. I based it on a protest sign I saw on FB and love that it twisted words that I hated into something great.

23.01.2022 Deadline looming so a new piece is under the needle. Is it just me or does it look surprised? 12wt thread on fine silk habotai. #thenewquilt2021 Quilt NSW

22.01.2022 With the US election approaching in only 73 days my subtle little statement piece 'Dear Mr Trump' is on my mind. This artwork was made for the Threads of Resistance exhibition which travelled in the US for two years. Now it's home I've recently put it up for sale on Saatchi Art. You can view it on the link at the bottom of this paragraph. (Not safe for work warning). I've included a preview of a censored for Facebook version, as even though Facebook's community standards clea...rly state they are fine with nudity in artwork it always manages to have someone report it. I made this work when Trump's statements about being able to grab women, do whatever you want to them if you were rich came to the media. I really hope these statements, among many other things he's said and done are not forgotten by voters at the next election. #45 #vote #election #raiseyourvoice #standup https://www.saatchiart.com//Collage-De/695557/6221331/view See more

19.01.2022 Trying to work out the best way to stitch the sky, but I think following the clouds is going to be the way to go for this one. The decorative quilting looks too busy. I’ll add a silver lining to the edges

18.01.2022 Free motion stitching my current art quilt live.

17.01.2022 Another 100,000 stitches in the last 24hrs, but I still don’t seem to have gotten a lot further than this time yesterday. I’m starting to remember why I like working small . Serendipity Patchwork & Quilting Work big you said, it will be fun you said. #TheNewQuilt #exhibition #Art

16.01.2022 Madeira Lana variegated wool thread in the bottom and 12wt WonderFil Specialty Threads Spaghetti thread in the top. Tension super tight to pull the wool up and over, in a slight zig zag and a straight stitch. I love the texture.

13.01.2022 This is my latest, it's titled "Isolate", as you can imagine stitching during a level 4 hard lock down helped to inspire the title and feel of the work. Giclée print on habotai silk, wool, cotton and poly threads in ultra heavy 12wt as well as ultra fine 100wt. 100 x 49cm. Thanks to Romi Muse for being the best model ever (this rock was not comfy) I would shoot with you any time, WonderFil Specialty Threads for sending me thread so quickly and Bernina Australia for making a m...achine that can handle free-machined whip stitch with aplomb, Michael Jenkins for pulling me out of my comfort zone for a day trip to the You Yangs and Mistyfuse Iris for the wonderful customer service and awesome fusible web. Oh and Frankie and Swiss for the wonderful printing and letting me be a fussy press checker. This piece has been a long time in the making.

11.01.2022 Aimee was a nurse practitioner in the USA, a wife, and a mother to an 8 year old son. Aimee was only 45, 18 months younger than I am. She was forced to wear the same mask for two to three days due to a lack of PPE in her hospital. She was working in the emergency ward in the peak of the pandemic. She died of COVID-19 on July 18th. No PPE cost her life. Aimee had no life threatening pre-exisiting conditions. When I put out a call for my art page followers to tell me the most ...ludicrous things they had heard regarding the covid crisis for me to incorporate them in my next piece, her mum Mary shared with me Aimee's story. It included a phone call Aimee made, pleading for her mum to make masks because they didn't have enough. Mary also sent me this photo of Aimee's husband Dan holding her hand in the hospital bed as the priest was giving last rites. In memory of Aimee Williams. 23/12/75 18/7/20. "Aimee" 21.5x21.5cm (8.5"x8.5") Gold metallic free machine stitching on purple silk. (Aimee's favourite colour). Aimee's story is so heartbreaking I decided to hit pause on my current work and make this for Mary instead.

11.01.2022 Getting there. Very, very slowly. Time for a walk now.

10.01.2022 Help wanted . My new quilt top is pinned to the design wall, and this time around I want to do something quite different. The working title is The World is Broken (Covid 2020). For this piece I want to embroider the most ludicrous things you’ve heard about this pandemic. From it’s just the flu to Dictator Dan. I want to hear your thoughts. What things have you heard or read about the pandemic that have made your brain hurt? They can be from both sides of the political arena, they can be factual (1,000,000 dead) or Qanon ridiculous (it’s been created by the big banks). Tell me your mind blowing media headlines / the most ridiculous conspiracy theory you’ve heard, or the fact you are finding most difficult to reconcile and I’ll see how many I can stitch in.

10.01.2022 Just finished a steam and stretch, now for a final, flat, dry iron, marking the edges, stitching them sealed and then my least favourite (and most scary bit) cutting down and edging. Followed by the final decision... which way up it goes . Not something that is usually a question in my quilts. I like it two ways for different reasons. Quilting is done! (And according to my machine’s thread counter there is close to half a million stitches).

08.01.2022 The back of my quilt so far. Thinking I may need to change the name from Whitewash 2020 to The Beast. Cause I’m sure it just keeps getting bigger rather than more finished.

07.01.2022 While the backing fabric for my next large quilt is drying I thought I’d have some fun stitching an altered quote and giggling like a school girl.

05.01.2022 There are some art quilts that look better when you leave the jump stitches in. Sadly this isn’t one of them. Every time I take a break the first part of getting back into it is cutting all the jump stitches off.

05.01.2022 Well this worked better than expected . Madeira Lana wool thread in the bobbin, very tight top tension to get it to pull up and over the 12wt @wonderfilspecialtythread spaghetti thread in the top, a 1.5mm zig zag (varied a little) and I have bushes. Will toothbrush the stitching to make the wool fluff just a little when the rest of the background is done.

04.01.2022 I just finished doing an interview with Studio E. This year with so many arts industries shut down they have been doing online interviews with a wide range of artists, gallery owners and others in the arts industry looking at how they have adapted and how the year has shaped up for them. If you'd like to check their episodes you can view them on this link: https://studioemedia.com.au/services/ I'll be appearing in the next week or two.

01.01.2022 Getting there slowly. This piece is the largest art quilt I’ve ever made, and I’m only about a fifth through the white areas. It’s WonderFil Specialty Threads Spaghetti 12wt (extra heavy) thread on a giclèe print on silk of one of my wave photos. Quilting is on my Bernina Australia 750QE, a domestic sewing machine with 10 throat using a titanium top stitch size 90 needle. I’m hoping the piece will finish up around 150 x 100cm. It’s really meditative to do this sort of stitching.
