22.01.2022 In my 20 years of riding and involvement with horses, there have only been two occasions where I seriously considered quitting. The first time was time was when I was 16 and my wonderful, reliably showjumping ex-racehorse, Charlie, had some sort of psychotic breakdown and started attacking me (and others) unprovoked out in the paddock. Don’t get me wrong, we had wonderful times prior to this, but it had gotten to a point where I was absolutely terrified of my beautiful old ...friend. With Charlie on the edge of retirement (he lived out the rest of his days with all the freedom, pasture and horse company he desired), I was ready to pack it in when this endearing young boy (pictured) came into my life. Young, inexperienced and almost fresh off the racetrack, Dopey (we tried renaming him, but it never really stuck) helped me remember why I started riding and how much I love these beautiful, gentle creatures. We’ve been working together now for nine years.
