25.01.2022 Summer is a popular time for going on holidays, and we are reminding people to take some time to assess their home security before they head away. Most of the recommended precautions are very simple, particularly just checking to make sure doors and windows are locked and secured an unlocked window in an empty home, full of valuables, is an opportunistic thief’s dream. We also recommend limiting what you post on social media about your holiday, especially if your home will ...be unattended for an extended period. It’s relatively inexpensive to put a good lock on your letterbox and ask someone you trust to empty it regularly or organise to have your mail held at your local post office while your'e away. The NSW Police Force has a wealth of information about safety and security, including fact sheets, available at: https://www.police.nsw.gov.au/safety_a/safe_and_secure/home If you have concerns about possible criminal activity in your local neighbourhood, call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or use the Crime Stoppers online reporting page: https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au/

19.01.2022 WHAT ARE YOU REQUIRED TO DO AFTER A MOTOR VEHICLE CRASH? In recent times police have seen an increase in motor vehicle crash’s where a driver will fail to stop and exchange their particulars with the other persons involved. In many cases these crashes would have met our 'minor crash' criteria and would typically not have required police involvement. Under the Road Rules, a driver involved in a crash must stop at the scene of the crash and give the driver's required particular...s to: Any other driver involved in the crash, and Any other person involved in the crash who is injured, and The owner of any property damaged in the crash. For a driver involved in a crash, this means: The driver's name and address, and The name and address of the owner of the driver's vehicle, and The vehicle registration number, and Any other information necessary to identify the vehicle. Penalties apply for failing to provide your particulars or failing to stop at the scene of the crash and not providing your particulars. These penalties start at $349 and a loss of 3 demerit points.

19.01.2022 Its going to be great weather this Long Weekend with many of us enjoying time at the beaches around Newcastle. Please make sure your valuables are secure. Please do not ‘secure’ car keys on your tyre, on the car roof or in the tray of a ute. If possible, leave your possessions and keys with someone when going for a swim or surf. Its unfortunate that some people may take advantage of the weather and steal belongings or cars from the beaches and nearby beach carparks. If you se...e someone or something not right, please give police a call or inform the lifeguards. The convenience of a car is something most of us take for granted. Having your vehicle or contents stolen can impact heavily on family, work and finances. PROTECT YOUR CAR FROM BEING STOLEN: NEVER leave your keys in the ignition when not in your car, even in your driveway at home ALWAYS keep your car’s doors and windows locked, including when driving NEVER leave your keys in plain view at home or in public places such as beaches and restaurants CONSIDER upgrading your car’s security with a quality alarm or electronic immobiliser or tracking device PROTECT THE PROPERTY IN YOUR CAR ALWAYS keep your doors and windows locked when out of your car NEVER leave valuables such as mobile phones, handbags, GPS or spare change in plain view even when parked at home
