23.01.2022 Wonderful Times Afloat, even if the wind was a little light.

22.01.2022 NEW SEASON 2020-2021 We proudly declare the new sailing season open for business! For the first race of the season we keep it simple and select an easy race track in Stockton Bight.... Midcoast Boatyard & Marine’s Farr 40 led the fleet around the track today in Good Form with owner Joe de Kock joining the fleet this season. A shipping movement caused disruption near the finish - allowing Lumiere to take the line honours title. Similarly, Michael McFayden’s Pronto set the pace at the front of Division 2 as they raced to Sygna and back again. In IRC Division, Lumiere scored first place ahead of Marta Jean and Good Form. In PHS Division 1, SummerSalt took the win ahead of Lumiere and Mako. In PHS Division 2, Pronto took both line honours and the handicap first place prize ahead of Wonderland and Doris. We’re back on the water next weekend for Race #2 of the Spring Short Ocean Pointscore. For full results, visit the event webpage - https://www.ncyc.net.au//offshore-/short-ocean-pointscore/

09.01.2022 THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW - will be spring! Today mother nature gifted us a warm sun clear skies, flat water and a generous breeze! Could we have picked a better day to race the Winter Passage down to Redhead and Glenrock Lagoon? On advice from Australian Sailing and NSW Government, we have excluded persons residing outside of the Lake Macquarie, Newcastle, Port Stephens, Maitland and Cessnock LGA's and are no longer offering daily prizes back in the Clubhouse after racing.... In short, we had nineteen boats racing off the coast of Newcastle today - purely appreciating the opportunity to be back on the water. We welcomed Rob Dawes and the team of Indigo, a Marten 49, destined for the Lake when conditions permit. Dawes and the team blitzed their first race at Newcastle by claiming Line Honours as the fastest boat to complete the 21NM passage race. We also welcomed Division 2 contenders Michael Bleakley on "Scaramouch", Robert Logan on "Amelia", and Greg Bolster on "Doris." In IRC Division, Richard Howard returned to Schouten Passage and the team took first place just 16 seconds ahead of second placed Marta Jean (Steve Rae) who were ahead of third placed Good Form (Joe de Kock) back on the water flying the Midcoast Boatyard & Marine banner. In PHS Division 1, Tim Gleeson and the SummerSalt crew took advantage of the offshore westerly and scored first place, just 9 seconds ahead of second placed Marta Jean, with Schouten Passage barely a minute behind them in third place after a picturesque two and a half hour race up and down the coastline. In PHS Division 2, Rebecca Connor and the Wonderland team were rewarded for their work with first place, barely a minute ahead of Bruce McNair's Paloma and Mark Clare's Isabella Blue. We're back on the water in two weeks time with the start of the new sailing season and regular Sunday racing from 1.30pm on Sunday, 13th September.

01.01.2022 YOUTH SQUAD - TRAINING TODAY Since early July, the Youth Squad has been on the water every weekend training and racing in the Force 24s. This years' Squad Structure saw us focus heavily on boat handling as we implemented those skills into fleet racing, and an introduction to match racing.... The squad is scheduled to end at the end of this month with each squad member participating in the offshore NSW Country Yachting Championship aboard NCYC yachts. Today, the Youth Squad took advantage of Sydney-Hobart yacht 'Mako' and braved the wind and the ocean to sail down the coast in a training exercise. While it was a clear and sunny day, the wind at Nobby's did exceed 25knots+ in the gusts! The squad - ranging in ages from 13yrs to 16yrs - met coaches Jack & Felix at 8:30am this morning for a safety briefing onboard the yacht and to rig the sails. They raised the sails near Honeysuckle and continued out of the Harbour before turning South toward Merewether. At Merewether, the boat headed out to sea approximately 2 Nautical Miles and then worked upwind into the 20knts+ westerly until they could almost step off onto Merewether Baths. The team then stuck close to shore as they reached from Merewether to Nobbys and back again - rotating crew roles on each run. Jack summed up their day on the water as "an exciting morning on the water. The squad successfully implemented their Force 24 keel boating skills and applied them on the much bigger Mako, handling the bigger loads on ropes and sails safely." Felix added "We had some fast runs, at over 12knots+ in some of the biggest gusts out there. The squad demonstrated their capabilities today and we're really proud of each of them." From here, the squad is scheduled to participate offshore in the NSW Country Yachting Championships 29/30 August, then they will be looking forward to Daylight Savings when we get the Elliott fleet back in the water for the Youth League in October and the Match Racing Tournament in November.
