24.01.2022 Education week continues and Class 8 would like you to dive into the pool with them. Their swimming sessions help them to learn movement skills, to stay healthy through exercise, to process their sensory needs and to practice self-care skills such as showering and dressing themselves. Come on in the water’s fine!

20.01.2022 As part of our commitment to Aboriginal Education, students engage regularly in whole school Aboriginal Cultural Tasks. Our first task for this term was to research both the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags and learn about their colours, symbols and meaning. Each class displayed the flags in their rooms and created a representation of one of the flags to present to the whole school. At Friday's assembly, classes shared their ideas in non-verbal ways including through art, sign language, movement and sensory experiences. Some of their very thoughtful and creative works are now displayed in the office to share with school visitors.

20.01.2022 Class 10 are superstar gardeners. Check out the harvest. Also look who is so proud to receive a principals award. Congrats class 10 on all your hard work

19.01.2022 Premiers Reading Challenge and Newcastle Senior School Readathon This year our school is participating in the NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge which aims to encourage a love of reading for leisure and enjoyment. We have started our challenge by listening to stories as a whole school, with a special story for ANZAC Day and one for the National Simultaneous Story Time. Our school is also conducting a Read-A-Thon. A sponsorship card has been sent home this week for students to re...quest sponsorship from family and friends. Cards and money collected are due back by June 18th. Each class will read, listen to or watch on-line 20 books from the challenge booklist. As a school, we are aiming to read 200 books and will be displaying our progress in the school office and on our Facebook page. At the end of the year each student will receive a certificate from the Premier’s Reading Challenge.

19.01.2022 This weekend was a busy weekend for Rocky. He completed an 8 week k9 boot camp on Saturday and a Tamaruke Handlers Field Day on Sunday. He was a very proud pup ...when presented with his Tamaruke Therapy Puppy in Training Vest which he will now wear at school and in the community. Is he a 10/10 therapy dog? No, not quite as he is still only a 6 month old puppy BUT he will be one day with the help of students and staff at Newcastle Junior, Middle and Senior Schools. Thankyou to everyone who has welcomed Rocky! He is soft and cuddly, energetic and playful, calm and caring AND he loves going to school. See more

15.01.2022 We are enjoying the return to warmer weather, however, it has brought the mosquitoes along with it! Please consider applying insect repellent to students prior to school each day, along with some sunscreen. If you wish us to reapply repellent or sunscreen throughout the day, please provide it in your child's bag, along with a written request in their communication book. All students should also have a hat in their bag for the playground and community access.

13.01.2022 Education Week and class activities extend beyond the classroom. Class 6 enjoy their weekly Food Technology lessons in our kitchen. In addition to meeting curriculum requirements, students explore sensory input through touching, tasting and smelling ingredients and meals. They learn functional life skills including hygiene, safety, food preparation and cleaning up afterwards!

12.01.2022 It’s not just the students who are DIG-ging the Education Week action. 05.01.2022 COVID-19 UPDATE We would like to thank parents and carers for their continued efforts to keep their children home if they are unwell or collect them from school if they become unwell. The latest advice regarding COVID-19 testing is as follows:... *COVID-19 testing for students with complex health or disability may be challenging. In these situations, schools are to ask the parent/carer to have their child assessed by their medical practitioner. Where a medical practitioner determines that a COVID-19 test is not indicated, a medical certificate must be provided to the school to confirm that the student does not have symptoms that warrant a COVID-19 test. The certificate must also indicate that the student is able to return to the school environment.* NSW Health continues to advise parents and carers to keep students at home if they are unwell. Thank you again for your continued understanding through these difficult times.

05.01.2022 Class 4 are rocking Newcastle Senior School. Fantastic to see all the hard work they are putting into their days.

05.01.2022 Class 4 would love to show you the hard work they do in the CHANCES work skills program. Every week they make beautiful scented candles to sell through our online store and at pop up stalls. Students prepare the jars by cleaning them and adding wicks. Then they melt soy wax, mixing it with fragrance and pour it into the jars. Once the wax is set, the jars are cleaned, labelled and tagged ready for sale. Lots of hard work but also lots of fun as you can see!

04.01.2022 Newcastle Senior School students just love Christmas! We have been celebrating the silly season with a Christmas Cheer Project. Each class has come up with an idea to spread Christmas joy through the school. There have been visits from both Santa and Mrs Claus, "elf yourself" photos, Christmas Carols, lolly bags and more! Today we had lots of fun trying to break open Christmas pinatas.
