13.01.2022 #HumansofNCV DEEPIKA SETHIA New Delhi, India Master of Commerce My parents have played a huge role in me coming to UNSW and achieving my dream of doing a Masters degree. My father has always been a hardworking man and I've seen him pull through the challenges of growing a business from the bottom to the top. My mother is a homemaker. She once had dreams of pursuing her studies and making something of herself but she married young, when she was just 17 years old she is conte...nt though. She does, however, want those unfulfilled big dreams for me. She's done everything she could, even if it has meant challenging traditional ideals and conflicting opinions, to ensure that her children get the best opportunities to learn and grow. Today, she sees me as a very successful person. We even have an inside joke where she says that she can't wait to see me on TV interviewing a big celebrity! I am very grateful to have her as my biggest supporter as I continue to fulfill my own ambitions. : Amreen Badani

13.01.2022 #HumansofNCV WAH GUAN LIM Singapore Sessional Academic UNSW; Chinese Arts and Theatre Becoming an academic wasn’t my first dream. In fact, I had two: the first was to become an actor in the theatre and the second was to become a chef! I love cooking and sharing food. When I was a postgraduate, I used to hold parties where everyone would bring a dish to share. For my friends who were in the midst of exams and couldn’t attend, I would make bento boxes and deliver these personal...ly to their places afterwards. It’s something I find a lot of pleasure in doing, as it helps make that little difference in another's life when they’re so stressed and they receive that box of food, it really brings a smile to their face! It’s little things like these that I find very meaningful be it spending quality time with one person or a group of close friends, or having conversations with people who are going through a difficult time and being able to render some support to make their lives a little betterI find that these are moments of magic, and there are so many chances for us to make these moments happen in our community. Human lives are so vulnerable. There’s a Chinese term, "Yuen" () or "Yuen Fen" (), which has no English translation and means something like fate, or circumstances that brought us together at this time, in this space. I feel very fortunate to be living in College during COVID times, where the social and support networks, friends and amenities are all so easily accessible. Our community comes from all walks of life and various corners of the world, and we should truly treasure our time and appreciate our presence with one another, brought together by our collective "Yuen". : Amreen Badani

01.01.2022 #HumansofNCV ARUN KUMAR Kolkata, India Master of Information Technology I believe that you should always keep trying. No matter how many times you fail, there is always a chance for you to succeed. No matter how old you are, success can always hit you when you least expect it...as long as you put your mind and heart into what you believe! If I could advise those younger than me, it would be to make calculated decisions with regards to your future. Everyone wants a secure futu...re, and it's important to follow your dreams, but you should also take into account the consequences that come with following your dreams. And, most importantly, never forget your family and friends, or yourself and your mental health. : Amreen Badani
