24.01.2022 * Spring has Sprung * Thank you to Julie from Julies Florist www.juliesflorist.com.au for bringing a bit of spring into our office at Burleigh. Julie left this bright and beautiful arrangement for our reception area to be enjoyed by all of our visitors.

24.01.2022 * Community Education * Today our Funeral Directors Steve and Carlo, together with Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) and Queensland Police Service assisted RAC...Q with their invaluable community education program at Windaroo Valley State High School. Last year 39 young people aged 15-21 died on our roads. RACQ are working to reduce and eradicate that number. As Queenslands largest advocate for road safety education, RACQ have a number of programs that educate students about road safety. The RACQ Docudrama is a two and a half hour senior school road safety education program that is offered free of charge to Year 11 and 12 students in Queensland secondary schools. Docudrama is both engaging and interactive and will empower students to make better and informed choices both as a driver and passenger. Docudrama takes a community approach to road safety issues involving emergency service workers and other local professionals to help demonstrate a powerful mock crash road safety scenario. Students then explore and are equipped with real world strategies for combating the Fatal Five road safety issues; Drink and Drug Driving, Fatigue, Not Wearing a Seatbelt, Speeding and Distraction. https://www.racq.com.au//educatio/secondary-school-program #RACQ #roadsafetyawareness

24.01.2022 Halloween driver safety tips While October the 31st is a date associated with scares and frights, there’s no reason for the horrors to extend to the roads. Bu...t, unfortunately, this popular family occasion is often associated with an increase in crashes. Here are some reminders to driving safely this Halloween: Assume all residential areas will have children on the streets Use headlights, even at dusk Drive well under the posted speed limit, particularly on curves Look out for children entering the road from stopped/parked vehicles Take extra care when entering/exiting driveways and turning into roads Use turn signals to indicate your intentions Yield to children Expect children to cross the road where they shouldn’t and without checking that it’s safe Stay focused. Avoid distractions such as phones, interacting with GPS, eating and drinking Don’t consume any alcohol if you’re driving; impairment begins below the legal drink-driving limit Have a safe Halloween

23.01.2022 * World Humanitarian Day * World Humanitarian Day is observed annually on August 19th. The purpose of this holiday is to honour all of the humanitarians who have tirelessly worked to further and promote a variety of humanitarian causes, all over the world. It is also a day to remember those people who have lost their lives in the service of a humanitarian cause. The final purpose of this U.N. sanctioned holiday is to raise the publics awareness about humanitarian assistance ...activities that occur all over the globe and the importance of countries coming together to solve the worlds problems. This years World Humanitarian Day honours the front-line health workers - the Real-Life Heroes - including doctors and nurses, midwives and community volunteers, and those who risk their lives to ensure that everyone has access to health services, testing and treatment, protective equipment, and medication especially during the COVID-19 pandemic and all other emergencies. https://www.who.int//default-c/world-humanitarian-day-2020

23.01.2022 * R U OK?* R U OK?Day is Thursday 10 September 2020. Its a national day of action when we remind Australians that every day is the day to ask, Are you OK? if someone in your world is struggling with lifes ups and downs. The message for R U OK?Day 2020 is:... THERES MORE TO SAY AFTER R U OK? 2020 has been a challenging year for everyone and circumstances have made it even more important for us all to stay connected and, for those who are able, be willing to support those around us. In the lead-up to R U OK?Day take a look at the website to find resources which will help us all know what to say when someone says theyre not OK and guide us through how we can continue a conversation that could change a life. 22.01.2022 * Kindness * How often do we forget that even the smallest act of kindness can be something that will change somebody elses day. Sometimes, somebody elses life. In times of isolation, whether it be after the loss of a loved one, or during times like our world is experiencing right now, an act of kindness can be our salvation.... The act of kindness is felt and received in a profound way after times of loss. I think this poem by Naomi Shihab Nye describes this best: KINDNESS Before you know what kindness really is you must lose things, feel the future dissolve in a moment like salt in a weakened broth. What you held in your hand, what you counted and carefully saved, all this must go so you know how desolate the landscape can be between the regions of kindness. How you ride and ride thinking the bus will never stop, the passengers eating maize and chicken will stare out the window forever. Before you learn the tender gravity of kindness, you must travel where the Indian in a white poncho lies dead by the side of the road. You must see how this could be you, how he too was someone who journeyed through the night with plans and the simple breath that kept him alive. Before you know kindness as the deepest thing inside, you must know sorrow as the other deepest thing. You must wake up with sorrow. You must speak to it till your voice catches the thread of all sorrows and you see the size of the cloth. Then it is only kindness that makes sense anymore, only kindness that ties your shoes and sends you out into the day to mail letters and purchase bread, only kindness that raises its head from the crowd of the world to say It is I you have been looking for, and then goes with you everywhere like a shadow or a friend.

21.01.2022 * Remembrance Day * The 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month marks the moment the guns fell silent on the Western Front after the bloodshed of World War I. Over the past century, this moment has been adopted across the globe as a time to remember those who served and sacrificed in all wars and conflicts. This Remembrance Day, join us, along with others across the nation, to pause for just one minute to remember those who gave their lives in service to their country, th...ose who returned home injured or ill, and those who bravely serve our country today. Lest we forget

19.01.2022 * Our Team * Proudly introducing: Darren Irvine, Branch Manager at Newhaven Funerals in Stapylton.... This year is a special milestone for Darren, as it marks 21 years of dedicated service at Newhaven Funerals and a total of 25 years working in the Funeral Industry. Darrens experience and perspective as well as his work ethic, put him in the unique position to be able to manage and support the team at Newhaven Funerals, whose work is sometimes distressing, but always rewarding. Darren knows he has a privileged role in being able to take some of the burden away from families at a difficult time in their lives. He knows just how overwhelming it can be for families to make decisions and organise a meaningful tribute to the life of a loved one who has passed away, having lost 5 close family members whilst being a Funeral Director at Newhaven Funerals. The profession isnt for everyone, but Darren has become a pro at balancing his family life, with his wife and 2 children, with his work life. Sometimes being on call 24 hours a day. He has also been a great mentor to his fellow funeral directors, who often come together to de-brief and offer support at sometimes stressful and demanding times. Darren has found that the continuity of care at Newhaven is not just an important benefit for the families, but also for himself and the other funeral directors. Each Funeral Director takes responsibility for every element of the organisation of a funeral. He believes that this maintains a close relationship with the families who trust him to care for their loved ones. He meets the family when he is taking their loved one into our care and he is the same person there for them at the arrangement, funeral service and after care including memorialisation. He is proud of the fact that so many families have appreciated his compassion, attention and professionalism. We are thankful too, Darren. We are grateful for your continued dedication to the families in our care and to the Newhaven Family. . . #newhavenfunerals #funeralsgoldcoast #goldcoastfunerals #funeralsbrisbane #brisbanefuneraldirector #goldcoastfuneraldirector

10.01.2022 * Meet the team * Carlo DiMartino has been a valuable member of the Newhaven team for over 3 years now. Originally from Tasmania, with Italian family heritage, Carlo and his family came to the Gold Coast for that sea change that so many others from across the country look for and find right here. ... Carlo has always worked in people focused roles since he left school and his greatest motivator has always been to be of service to others and give back to the community. This included being a volunteer fire fighter back in Tasmania. Working with families to assist them with bushfire safety plans. When Carlo meets a family who have entrusted Newhaven Funerals with the care of their loved one, his main focus is to connect with them to ensure he is offering as personalised a service as possible. Beyond the funeral service, Carlo has maintained communication with several of the families he has served, making sure to check in with them days, weeks, months and even years after the service. Newhaven Funerals are grateful to have Carlo assisting and attentively caring for the every need of the families in our care at a difficult time in their lives. Thank you Carlo

09.01.2022 * Grief Portrayal * Some stories are hard to tell and dont fit into a happily ever after box. The story of grief is hard and something people try to avoid talking about and thinking about. It takes boldness and bravery to be open about the universal feelings of grief and loss. After Life by Ricky Gervais tells a story that is painful, yet powerful, raw, yet real and even manages to make us laugh along the way. Its a rare and sometimes hauntingly accurate portrayal of g...rief that isnt trying to tie it up in a neat bow. It isnt playing along with the usual beat of trying to get over it. It flies in the face of the impatience society has with grieving people. After Life seasons 1 & 2 on Netflix certainly arent light entertainment, but the honest and brutal portrayal of grief is a story that needs telling. #griefstories #grief #griefsucks #itsoktonotbeok

04.01.2022 * Meet our team * Jane Levin has been a part of the Newhaven Family for nearly 5 years now and is most often the first point of contact when phoning or visiting our Stapylton office. Her background is in customer service. This experience, along with her friendly and inviting nature, has eased the burden for many families making the difficult first call to a funeral home when a loved one has passed away. ... Jane is also the person to talk to about memorialisation. Whether its choosing an urn after cremation, deciding upon a location in the memorial gardens or selecting another memorial keepsake, Jane will take care of everything. She has an extra hand in making sure the memorial gardens are always lovingly cared for. Her son Jake, is part of the fantastic team working on these special areas everyday. Often, Jane will meet families who are overwhelmed about their options. Her time and attention is focused on supporting the family to find out what they want and to suggest ideas and alternative options they might not have spoken about if they are struggling to decide. Thank you to Jane for investing such great attention to detail and care. It is greatly appreciated by the team and the families who choose Newhaven Funerals.

03.01.2022 * Floral Tributes * Thank you to Kris from Beautiful Budget Bouquets who designed this beautiful floral tribute. 01.01.2022 * Pet Connections * Pets are part of many peoples everyday lives and part of their families. They provide us with companionship but also with emotional support, reduce our stress levels, sense of loneliness and help us to increase our social activities. Pets add to a childs self-esteem and positive emotional development. Last week Newhaven Funerals and its Pethaven division, were honoured to play a small roll in the memorialisation of a familys beloved cat. The cat happ...ened to have its own instagram account with nearly 35 000 followers. We also discovered there are other accounts amassing millions of followers in total. It got us thinking. We love our pets and they give us unconditional love in return. We often take photos and video of them, but not photos with them. So, I asked friends and family to look for pics of themselves together with their pets. Many realised they dont do this enough. So, our message is to keep taking photos of yourself and your loved ones with your pets. They will become precious keepsakes to treasure always. Thanks to everyone who contributed their beautiful family pet photos to this post See more
