23.01.2022 It’s no secret... we love our animals at Newlyn PS as much as we love our people. Our students learn a lot about responsibility and animal care. But what they also get is the opportunity to give and receive unconditional love . #smallschoolbigideas #handsonlearning

22.01.2022 Here is another home learning video shared by two of our students! Kitchen science fun. Well done (and we love seeing someone of our 2021 Preps getting to join in on the action!)

20.01.2022 With the closure of schools for the remainder of this week, and an uncertain future ahead, we extend a hand of support to those in our school and broader community. Please do not hesitate to message via Facebook or leave a message on the school phone if you need help or support. Newlyn PS has seen wars, the Great Depression, and survived tragedy and uncertainty for over 160 years! We are here to help and ask that you all look out for each other (even if it is from a distance!) Call your family and friends, check in on your neighbours and remember how strong our community is!

16.01.2022 Over the past week our students have engaged in a range of activities to commemorate ANZAC Day. We have read stories, baked ANZAC biscuits, attended ceremonies and reflected through art. We give thanks to those who have served to keep our country and others safe. #lestweforget

15.01.2022 This week (but especially today) our students and their families have done a tremendous job getting our school grounds back to pre-remote learning standards! Last year we were lucky enough to receive a #woolworthslandcare grant to upgrade our current veggie patch and build a new one. Today we worked very hard to get the first stage of this project finished. A big thank you to everyone who pitched in today and this week- it was wonderful to sit back after school today and marvel at just how much we got done! #smallschoolbigideas #welovelearning

Big shout out to all of the parents in our school community for stepping up and have a red hot go of our online learning. We appreciate how challenging teaching can be, and we are here to support you any way we can. Next week we will be posting some school work highlights from some of our students. Stay tuned. Ms Vella and Mrs Baker

09.01.2022 We have been quiet for a few weeks- planning for home learning has been time consuming, but well worth the effort. We have loved seeing how our families take our planning and make it work at home. Our students continue to thrive in these unprecedented times. Thank you to all of the parents who are keeping the fire burning so that our students can continue to succeed #smallschoolbigideas #homelearning #thankyou #continuity #creativity

08.01.2022 We do what we do because we love it... but to be recognised for that passion is something else. Our school community is a very special one. Thank you to each and every student, parent and school supporter. Together we are making Newlyn PS the most amazing place to grow and learn. #smallschoolbigideas

08.01.2022 It’s Book Week and this Thursday we are celebrating in ‘Wild Style’. We look forward to seeing all of our wildly wonderful students in their wildest creations.

08.01.2022 We have been so busy getting back to learning at school. This week we named our new Guinea Pigs Flash and Patch. We went for a walk to say hi to the donkeys. We got busy with some ideas for our new brooding coop. We wrote procedures and learned about chemical science and the idea of change. We worked on stop motion animations (every chance we got!) and we even got to enjoy the sunshine. Today our Grade 3-6’s worked on some problem solving using algebraic expressions (it was pretty impressive really!)

08.01.2022 Turtle visited today! We think he was hungry and trying to find the book worms

08.01.2022 Today we celebrated Book Week! The theme this year was ‘Wild Curious Minds’ and today we had a Wild kind of day #smallschoolbigideas #celebratingbooks

07.01.2022 The new ‘pigs’ have arrived! A week old today. Flash has been a great mum to her new Guinea Pig babies. We can’t wait to get back to school so that everyone can have a pat!

07.01.2022 When there is a zucchini surplus... we make cake!

04.01.2022 As part of their transition, our 2021 preps have started joining us for online chats and video conference calls- clearly a sign of the times! This morning Ms Vella our principal got to share a story, an update on our guinea pigs, and show and tell with two out of the 5 wonderful Preps joining us next year. We are still taking enrolments for 2021! Call Ms Vella on 53457222 to discuss why our school is the right fit for your child.

04.01.2022 From disaster comes genius! We had no power for the majority of today so we got out our tools and have spent the day creating!

04.01.2022 For most of the students at Newlyn PS, today was their first sighting of a skywriter! Some thought it was a rocket ship, others wondered if it was an alien spaceship ready to take over Newlyn! Perfect timing really since we are well into our unit work on Space, and today we joined in the National Simultaneous Storytime session with a real astronaut reading to us via live stream from the International Space Station.

04.01.2022 One of our year 2 students (with the help of his mum and dad) has created a wooded version of our school with a few of his friends! He has named the area Spoonville and it is in the garden at school! We think it is super-special and that he is a pretty clever! We can’t wait to see it when we get back to school

04.01.2022 Harvesting has become part of the daily ritual! Today’s cut was pretty good! We have rhubarb ... well a lot of rhubarb almost ready to cut, silverbeet and herbs too (sage, oregano, parsley, chives and some basil). We don’t have any peas, tomatoes or strawberries to share because we keep eating them before they even get to the kitchen! A gold coin donation would be much appreciated with all funds going to our Jnr School Council account to cover the costs of animal food (those bunnies, guinea pigs and chickens love to eat!)

03.01.2022 Discovering creativity even when we can’t go to school. Surprise drawings!

02.01.2022 2 weeks ago we were at school celebrating our Prep 100 days of school! We had visitors from Sovereign Hill take us back in time to what school would be like over 100 years ago, and we celebrated with all things 100. We are still learning and connecting every day through remote learning and we are so proud of how our students are tackling round 2!

02.01.2022 We have had a busy fortnight working on new stop motion story boards, looking after our guinea pigs, making apple and rhubarb crumble with our own rhubarb from the garden and taking care of our chickens! #smallschoolbigideas #handsonlearning
