23.01.2022 A young couple moved into a new neighborhood. The next morning while they were eating breakfast, the young woman saw her neighbor hanging the washing outside. "...That laundry is not very clean; she doesn’t know how to wash correctly. Perhaps she needs better laundry soap." Her husband looked on, remaining silent. Every time her neighbor hung her washing out to dry, the young woman made the same comments. A month later, the woman was surprised to see a nice clean wash on the line and said to her husband, "Look, she’s finally learned how to wash correctly. I wonder who taught her this?" The husband replied, "I got up early this morning and cleaned our windows." And so it is with life What we see when watching others depends on the clarity of the window through which we look. So don’t be too quick to judge others, especially if your perspective of life is clouded by anger, jealousy, negativity or unfulfilled desires. "Judging a person does not define who they are. It defines who you are." Jonathan Kestenbaum

23.01.2022 It's that time of year and even though we've had a year like no other, Christmas will fix everything. Sadly, though, there are those out there who will happily steal your Christmas goodies at the drop of a hat. So don't publicise on social media what you've bought or plan to buy and do try to keep stuff secure. And be mindful that if you're all out, someone may be watching. Just because it's Christmas, don't drop your guard.

21.01.2022 Dealing with noisy neighbours. I am sure it won’t surprise you to know that noise is a very common cause of disputes between neighbours. Although you may think your neighbour is the noisiest person in the world, I can assure you they’re are plenty more who are worse. Whether it’s noise from the apartment above you or the house or business next door, it’s something that’s part of the drama of daily life and you have to find ways to manage it, rather than go crazy with the stre...Continue reading

21.01.2022 Today is RU OK? day. You know that old saying:- "A problem shared is a problem halved"? Well, someone you know may be really struggling in isolation with a problem(s) and no-one to talk to, or even someone of the same gender. If they choose to unload to you, be ready to follow through with support by suggesting professional help that can assist as well as support networks that are available. It is possible to be so deep inside a problem that there appears NO way out, particularly without support.

18.01.2022 Confused about what to do at a roundabout? Remember these three simple rules: 1. Slow down 2. Indicate which way you intend to turn. If you are travelling st...raight ahead indicate your intention to exit the roundabout. 3. Give Way - to any vehicle on the roundabout. 17.01.2022 It's sometimes said" It's no use telling the Police, they don't/can't do anything". Well, this is not accurate. Whilst initially troublemakers may not be able to be brought to heel, as information comes to hand in an ongoing manner, modus operandi can be put together. Patterns in times, dates, places become obvious to the point where events may be able to be predicted, and by whom. So don't assume your info. goes nowhere. It's going on file and can be used to collar felons.

17.01.2022 Men and boys account for 2 in 3 potentially preventable deaths in Australia. Yet in its current format, the Government's draft Preventive Health Strategy doesn't specifically target men and boys. You can have your say on this today by completing AMHFs short survey. https://bit.ly/3cl8LzH

14.01.2022 Yet another aspect of this awful bloody virus. "While much is still unknown about COVID-19, experts have repeatedly affirmed that the spread of the virus can be drastically reduced if people stay home as much as possible and keep contact with others to a minimum. The need for social distancing may go on for months possibly intermittently for years. It can be dizzying to think how long we may go without hugging our friends, kissing our lovers, or cuddling up next to someone.... The longing for physical connection you may be feeling right now is often referred to as skin hunger by therapists and sexual wellness experts. Physical human contact is an emotional and physical need based on our biology and psychology, explains sex therapist Jesse Kahn, the director at The Gender & Sexuality Therapy Center in New York City. Touch can release oxytocin, reduce stress, and calm our nervous system. Similar to how one might experience hunger for food, when deprived of human contact our bodies will innately feel a sense of hunger for skin-to-skin touch. Given that COVID-19 is spread person to person, primarily through respiratory droplets from an infected person, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) advises that we self-isolate and practice social distancing, by staying at least six feet away from those we don’t currently live with. For many who live alone, are single, or quarantined without their partners, skin hunger can be a very real consequence. While the loss of physical intimacy may seem like a minor concern during a global pandemic, the emotional toll of touch deprivation can be extreme. There is no uniform experience of skin hunger while some people may be aware of their desire and need to be touched, Kahn explains that for others it may manifest as depression, suicidal ideation, anxiety, loneliness, stress, or difficulty sleeping. Even if you have been hungry for touch for a long time, we are resilient and things will change, reminds sex and relationship therapist, Shadeen Francis. Adapting to the times and our current need to keep communities safe by staying at home means getting creative to meet certain needs, like physical intimacy." See more

13.01.2022 Tasmanians have lost over $35,000 to puppy scams this year, with people sending money for pets that don't exist. To date, there have been 11 Tasmanian victims w...ho have lost approximately $35,000 to overseas scammers. Scammers set up fake websites or ads on online classifieds and social media pretending to sell sought-after dog breeds and will take advantage of the fact that you can’t travel to meet the puppy in person. The scammer will usually ask for up-front payments via money transfer to pay for the pet and transport it to you. Usually after the initial deposit the scammer will make new excuses to request more money such as delayed transport and shipping cost. Once you make the payments, the seller will cease all contact. The only safe option is to purchases or adopt a pet from someone you can contact in person or purchase from a well know reputable breeder that you have researched well, Detective Sergeant Turner said. Scam websites can look very convincing but remember if the price looks too good to be true, it probably is. If you are in doubt, seek advice from a reputable breeders’ association, vet or local pet shop. If you think you have been scammed, contact your bank or financial institution as soon as possible, Detective Sergeant Turner said. 01.01.2022 The mental and physical health and wellbeing of Tasmania’s emergency service workers is incredibly important. We are proud that the Department of Police, Fire a...nd Emergency Management is helping Tasmania’s police officers, firefighters, paramedics and other emergency service workers and volunteers keep fit and healthy through its 12-week Ready for Response program which is part of an overall wellbeing support program. Our first responders are susceptible to post traumatic stress disorders and other mental health conditions, due to the severity of incidents they attend, and the cumulative effect of incidents attended over a long period of time. A healthy body supports a healthy mind, and the wellbeing of our emergency service workers is a priority. By helping them stay mentally and physically well, they can continue to help you when you’re in need.

01.01.2022 We're counting some of the ways male suicide is different from female suicide and calling for a male suicide strategy that reflects gender differences ahead of ...World Suicide Prevention Day on Thursday, September 10. Most work to prevent suicide ignores the differences between men and women. Closing the gender suicide gap and reducing male suicide to the same level as female suicide would save the lives of more than 1500 men and boys a year. https://bit.ly/2DCQiBw
