24.01.2022 Wow. Last Friday (21st August), the Jordan Café received 120 boxes of donations from Sydney Local Health District (SLHD) and Royal Prince Alfred Hospital (RPAH).... Generous donations of food, toiletries and supplies to go out to those who are battling in our community. Thank you so much to team and all the staff down there at RPAH! Thank you, Adrian, Jane and Brian, for the organisation and coordination. We have a great partnership with SLHD and RPAH and they have been so generous with their time, skills and resources over many years. Each year the staff do a drive for donations for the Jordan Café, during Homelessness Week, and putting together 120 boxes this year is a mighty effort! RPAH drivers dropped off the donations, and with our team, helped unload all 120 boxes. Again, a BIG thank you to all the team at SLHD and RPAH. (Sam) See more

23.01.2022 For those at the Jordan Café it can sometimes seem that the system is against you, whether it is with housing, the government or with the law. For people not ...knowing where to turn, or their options or their rights, it can make a tough situation even more difficult, compound problems, impacts health and so on. That is why we, at the Jordan Café, are so thankful for Homeless Persons' Legal Service (HPLS), Public Interest Advocacy Centre and Corrs Chambers Westgarth Careers . This week a couple of people from the Jordan Café had wins only because of HPLS! One win, was regarding an urgent court case, which required a very short-turnaround for representation to be organised. HPLS got to it and helped out, making for a good result. The second win, was a long-drawn out saga, taking a couple of years for a favourable result, which came through this week! HPLS were there for the long haul, helping out with numerous conversations, connecting with many organisations and services, coordinating responses and documentation. There were set-backs and small wins along the way, but HPLS were always willing to help and act on the persons behalf. No case too small or too large, or short-sharp or long-and-drawn-out, HPLS are always willing to have the conversation and try to help out. We thank HPLS, PIAC and Corrs for our many years of friendship and working together. We thank each and every one of the team who come to help out, form friendships, work hard and advocate for those in our Community. Thank you. (In COVID-times, HPLS is still operating at the Jordan Café via the phone: Fridays, 1:30 2:30 pm. Please see Meg or Sam if you are interested)

"...Here at the Jordan Cafe we hear the realities of homelessness. Many people who come through our doors here have at one stage been homeless, or are homeless, they're sleeping rough at the moment....we definitely need more housing and the more awareness we can raise of the issue of homelessness...the better it is for our communtiy here...pray for... the decision makers and the policy makers, let's really push for more housing and more homes, safe, secure and affordable housing." 11.01.2022 Sunday 13 September Online Gathering

11.01.2022 THANK YOU Ross ... During the Sunday Morning Facebook Live Service, we gave thanks for the volunteer service of Ross! Last week we received a letter from Ross, ...or Old Ross, (as he liked to be known and we have a Young Ross in the Café ) writing that he has made the decision to step down from volunteering at the Jordan Café after 20 years!?! He is stepping down due to the ongoing COVID situation and he has a long commute via public transport. What an effort. For over 20 years Ross would be at the Jordan Café on a Friday doing whatever was needed, he would quietly serve meals, collect plates, do the washing and so on. But most importantly Ross would be there listening to people, talking to people and forming friendships. Ross has this quiet and strong faith in Jesus that would lead him to people and pray for people. His letter spoke about how much he enjoyed his time at the Jordan Café (to be there 20 years!) and how it gave him a deeper understanding of the problems of others. That deeper understanding, which for Ross and others, leads to friendship, support and compassion. On behalf of Newtown Mission, the Jordan Café and the Community, we would like to thank Ross for all his faithful years of service, time, support and hard work. We will miss you Old Ross! Thank you, God Bless and keep you. (Old Ross made it onto the Jordan Café Last Supper mural, photo included)
