15.01.2022 Head to Civic Park for a Christmas Tree Maze starting on Thursday 3 December. Get lost in the maze which will be made of 120 fully sized fresh Christmas pine trees. By day, kids will have a great time finding their way through the maze and by night, onlookers can enjoy the sparkling solar-powered tree lights, helping give the city a little extra Christmas spirit. Civic Park’s Christmas Tree Maze runs from 7am to 7pm from Friday 4 December to Saturday 12 December. 14.01.2022 Get free tickets to see the Newcastle Jets at Maitland Sportsground for an A-League trial match against brand new club Macarthur FC, on Thursday 26 November kicking off at 5.15pm. In recognition of the lack of events due to COVID-19, Maitland City Council has decided that all general admission tickets for the game can be acquired free of charge, with grandstand seats only being $5 per seat regardless of age. 10.01.2022 FIRE AND RESCUE OPEN DAY UPDATE Although the official NSW Fire and Rescue events have been cancelled, there are some local fire stations proceeding with Open Day events. CARDIFF... Fire and Rescue NSW Station 251 Cardiff is now holding their Open Day onsite. Due to a late agreement between the FBEU and the higher powers of Fire and Rescue Open Day 2021 will now be at Cardiff Fire Station. This replaces the event formerly scheduled at Macquarie Hills Little Athletics Facility (Neegulbah Park) tomorrow Saturday 15 May from 10am till 2pm. Instead, the event will go ahead at Cardiff Fire Station between 10am and 2pm. There will be a variety of fire safety demonstrations as well as the opportunity to explore a real working fire station and the fire trucks within. Cardiff Rotary will be there operating their Charity BBQ. Sausage sandwiches will be $3 and cans of soft drink $2. A full Covid Safety plan will be in place and guidelines will be followed. All money raised will go ahead towards local community projects. MINMI Fire and Rescue NSW Station 377 Minmi will be open for Open Day on Saturday 15 May. Wallsend-Maryland Rotary. will be cooking a BBQ. Come and learn about home fire safety and meet your local firefighters. The 2nd Jack Murphy Scooter Fest will be held at Parrey Skatepark at 38 Munibung Road, Cardiff on Saturday 29 May at 9am.This event is in memory of Jack Murphy who died suddenly in 2018 of Sudden Cardiac Death. 02.01.2022 Macquarie Pier at Nobbys Beach has reopened this week with a pathway upgrade. There's more work to be done though with lighting, signage and other materials highlighting the pier’s maritime heritage features expected to be installed in early 2021. Nobbys Headland is also now open to the public on weekends and public holidays excluding Christmas Day and New Year’s Day from 8am to 4pm.

02.01.2022 For a special treat this year, National Simultaneous Storytime will be broadcast from the ISS. This year National Simultaneous Storytime takes place on Wednesday 19 May at 11am (AEST) from the International Space Station and will feature the book Give Me Some Space! written by Philip Bunting and published by Scholastic Australia. This year the book will be read by an astronaut from the International Space Station. ALIA, along with the Australian Space Agency and The Office of... the Chief Scientist, and with help from Science Time From Space, will bring an additional science and educational component to National Simultaneous Storytime in 2021.
