25.01.2022 A new chapter in young German's life. After driving on a foreign licence for a short time. This young man has elevated his driving privileges from an accompanied learner to that of an individual provisional driver where he is now able to drive to work without having to rely on friends, family or workmates to get from point A to point B. Mate....well done and enjoy your new found freedom !
23.01.2022 Congratulations to young David for attaining his Provisional Licence yesterday at Gregory Hills. He impressed the examiner that much that he was rewarded to 2 new shiny P plates to affix to 'his rig'. However..... due to the computers being down at the Service NSW Office David was unable to drive away on his own as the system could not be updated. Disappointing... yes, but the patient human David is - he took it in his stride and was chauffeured home with a huge smirk on ...his face. Well done young man. You were a pleasure to teach and a credit to the tribe that has raised you. Take care buddy and I will see you around. Cheers Adam
22.01.2022 Thanks to the team at Pheasant Wood for the opportunity to be part of a fantastic initiative. Well done guys - had an absolute blast. Until next time..... Adam
22.01.2022 Congratulations to Corey for passing his P's test this morning at Gregory Hills. Well done mate - it was a pleasure teaching you. Continue making good choices in life and stay safe buddy.
19.01.2022 What a fabulous day all round ! Sun rises, jobs start to commence, morning warms up nicely and busy little humans go about their business. Sun sets and we do it all again tomorrow. Young Katelyn's 'job' today was to attend the RMS office at Gregory Hills and attain her P's after a little test. Result..... 105 out of 100. Look out ! How does that happen I hear you ask ? I wish I was getting those marks in exams I was doing long ago. With marks like that, Katelyn will e...xcel in anything she choses to do in life. Well done Katelyn - keep doing what you're doing and enjoy the 'privilege' to be able to join other motorists on our local roads. Stay safe, take care and will see you around.
18.01.2022 THE WINS ...... AND THE LOSSES ! Another busy couple of weeks in the world of "Next Gear Driver Training". Firstly congratulations to the learners that have attained their provisional drivers licences. Well done. There are 7 of you that graduated over the past two weeks. Fantastic achievement.... We'll call those 'the wins'. I'll take the wins all day, however, this post is about the 'losses' we get as a team. And we are a team - the student and teacher. When the class falls short the teacher feels responsible to some extent. How we react to that loss is critical in our personal development. One of my students put it this way...... "I was disappointed in myself at first. I had let down myself and my family. I didn't want mum and dad to have to get out of bed at 4.00am every morning to get me to work. I had to get my P's to take the pressure off them." "After failing my P's first time around I hated the world ! Then I sat down and had a good hard think about it ! When I got my P's on my second attempt I promised myself that I would do everything in my power to hold onto them. No speeding, no mobile phones, no showing off.....nothing that would attract the attention of the Police. Why ? Because I know exactly what it feels like to lose my P's after failing the first time. I never want to feel that way again !" A very mature attitude from a young adolescent mind. I take my hat off to that young male. The exact age/gender group that are over represented in the unfortunate fatality rate on our local roads. I have no doubt that the troops that are not successful in gaining that elusive 'red P plate' first time up somewhat protect their provisional licence a smidge more than the first timers - having felt the disappointment of "already losing their P's" and the opportunity to take the pressure off the family unit - sometimes residing in areas totally devoid of public transport options. Take care out there and drive safe ! Adam
17.01.2022 Although I can't take all the credit for young Jade to jag her P's yesterday I did play a role in educating Jade in becoming a safe low risk driver on our roads. Well done Jade - enjoy your journey and new found freedom. Nailed it !

10.01.2022 To my patiently waiting families out there anticipating the commencement of Next Gear Driver Training. Popped into the RMS office yesterday to enquire as to where my application process is at. After a number of phonecalls to different departments it appears my file may well be processed early next week. It appears this COVID-19 pandemic has taught us a number of things in the calendar year of 2020.... we have to adapt to an ever changing environment, we need to be patient (very patient) and lastly, only one pack of toilet paper per family every couple of weeks should suffice. Enough said ! To all my frustrated families - my next post will be GAME ON !
10.01.2022 Shout out to the young female P plater driving her little red Mazda 3 just before lunch today over Razorback. Despite the pressure behind from two 'experienced' drivers pushing her all the way up, she remained steadfast in maintaining the legal speed limit of 80kph. As soon as an additional lane presented itself ,the other drivers overtook her like she wasn't even there only to be slowed by the next car in front about a kilometre down the road. As a result we all caught up... to the slow moving chain that was making it's way down the other side of Razorback. A message to that young female. Well done. Your parents and your instructor(s) should be proud of your driving performance and attitude today. Our local roads (and especially Razorback) have claimed many lives due to poor driving behaviour. To the two cars that overtook......guys, we live on an island, no matter how fast you drive trying to get to the front of queue - there will always be someone in front of you. Switch On ! Have a fantastic weekend troops.
09.01.2022 One of last week's wins. Another learner progressing to the much desired provisional phase of driving. I have no doubt you will turn those red plates green in good time. Well done Emily. On that fine sunny day all the stars aligned where all that you had learnt over 12 months of supervised instruction paid off. ... Enjoy your new found freedom, continue to develop safe driving practices and most of all - be good to your parents. Take care and I will no doubt see you transiting through the local area. Excellent work young lass.

05.01.2022 Big week last week teaching the next generation of young drivers to do their bit to make our roads safer. So much so, here's a belated win from the week before. A big congrats to Portia who without doubt nailed her P's test in Mittagong. The ultimate perfectionist, Portia managed to attain her red provisional licence which has now given her the opportunity to become an independent young woman. Well done Portia and I will no doubt see you around. Take care and drive safe out there - it's a jungle !

05.01.2022 Another success story in the quest to become a safe low risk driver. Congratulations to Taylah for attaining her P's on a cold wet day in Mittagong last week. Not the best conditions but totally proud of you for 'nailing' it in very trying conditions. Well done Taylah - enjoy this new chapter in your life and will no doubt see you around. Stay safe and drive careful. Cheers. Next Gear Driver Training.
04.01.2022 Just some of the humans brave enough to pose for this little uncomfortable task. Travelled far and wide over the last couple of weeks for these troops to gain their provisional licence - Gregory Hills, Mittagong, Penrith and Goulburn. Well done ! Check out these Heads ...... Or should I say HEAD CHECKS ! A head check is a necessary requirement that a safe, low risk driver must do to minimise the risk of a collision whilst driving on our roads.... What is it ? It's a deliberate and conscious look (left or right) to ascertain whether a vehicle is sitting right in our blind spot - the area immediately behind our left and right rear corners of our motor vehicle. Its also the area that our mirrors do not cover. To effectively check these blind spots we must turn our heads past 90 degrees and look behind the B-pillar of the vehicle. Put simply, the B-pillar is the vertical metal structure of the vehicle that divides the front and rear doors. A left head check begs us to turn our head (left obviously) and look between the head rests of the two front seats rearward out the left back seat window. A right head check demands us to turn our head to the right and peer between the B-pillar and the seat we are sitting in, thus clearing the area observed through the drivers side rear seat window. This can only be achieved by bringing our chin to our shoulder ! So, don't get lazy on those HEAD CHECKS. A high majority of first time fails are due to a lack of suitable head checks that are required to be completed whilst driving to 'clear' those damn blind spots. Until next time - stay safe and take care. Adam
