25.01.2022 The last bit of gravel going on top of the new stormwater pipe. To put our driveway where we wanted it we needed to move the side entry pit about 3 or 4 meters up the road so that meant cutting a section of road out to connect it back into the manhole. Now that the curb and driveway are in today was connection day!

24.01.2022 Almost the final run!

24.01.2022 Dessert time #indulge #festivale

21.01.2022 Valentines lunch. I’m not normally a beer in the middle of the day kinda guy, but it’s a special occasion isn’t it? I only have two jobs for the afternoon too... 1. Clean the carby on the #hondamower and 2. Run a feso for a possible #subdivision site I looked at this morning on the way back from the beach.

21.01.2022 These are what i think about when it comes to assessing a subdivision and the services we will interact with. The services are often where a lot of the money goes (and roads) so you need to know how you will provide them.

21.01.2022 I was talking to someone the other day and they were telling me how badly retail is doing in our city. These are all the properties that are for lease or vacant in the main two blocks. To be fair Birchells maybe shouldn’t be included as it is being re-developed by @launceston_official, but it is vacant for now. The thing that’s common between all these properties is that their tenant was a major brand and not a local business. ... In my eyes Launceston is doing really well but I’m not the one standing behind the till and doing the accounts for these businesses

10.01.2022 McDonalds isn’t a super common meal in our family, but When we do go, the kids HAVE to have a Happy Meal. The problem is that since the introduction of toys back in the 80s (does anyone still have their Muppet Babies?) the toys have got cheaper and crappier and we don’t usually let the kids get them anymore. They did do books for a bit, but they never seemed to have them and they weren’t that good. This time the kids had a great idea and decided that @mcdonaldsau should do @lego #minifigures in the #happymeal instead. I know it’s still plastic but at least it’s quality and worth keeping. And show me a kid who doesn’t like @lego? Hell, I’d even get a happy meal if it came with @lego

08.01.2022 I've found a site the looks good for our next project. It's looking like the same sized subdivision as the last one, but with 1 or 2 strata lots that will be big enough for strata titling. As with the current project in Mowbray, we will design it to leave out the road and to create lots that are big enough for people to have some outdoor space. The strata titles will be a second stage project once we sell off the other lots. I'd like to look at how they could work with a m...ix of types of spaces from studios to small family spaces. I want to try and build something that meets the needs of a range of people and builds community. Once we have that project as an example I'd like to try and get some land for a bigger version that will build on what we learn here and try and change the expectation of what new development can look like! If people see that there is an alternatice to living in streets where everyone faces away from each other and instead there is a built space that encourages community and connection, then I know they will chose that option every time.

07.01.2022 Nice work here by @launceston_official. Actually filling in the gap‘s in the street trees I know it’s not always a widely held view but the trees in our streets do make a huge difference to the amenity and the character of our public space. I visited Perth (WA) while back and straight plantings and water management or something that they do really really well. Not far from here there is a huge fenced of grass area that is just there for a serious rain event. In Perth that would be a park that can take the hit, WHEN the rain comes. We don’t seem to be there yet

06.01.2022 Watching a round @barnbougle.

06.01.2022 These are my learnings about sorting out the civil works on a larger project. I've done smaller jobs so far, but this one had more services and 7 larger lots, so there were more moving pieces and more to learn.
