19.01.2022 HELP MY HOT WATER SYSTEM IS DUMPING WATER!! As the weather heats up we get LOTS of phone calls from customers alarmed that their solar hot water system is dumpi...ng all of the hot water from their tank. This is completely normal and occurs when it is a hot day and none of the hot water has been used during the day. The temperature and pressure in the hot water system builds up and once it reaches 99 degrees / 1000kpa of pressure it is designed to release water from the hot water relief valve There could be 20 30 litres of water dumped during this process. This hot water is replaced with cold water bringing the temperature down until the valve shuts off. Do NOT turn the cold water isolation valve off to save water, the cold water is required to cool it. Solutions to this issue: *Use some of the hot water during the day - hand washing, washing dishes etc. *Cover one of the solar panels on your roof during summer. *Thermal restrictor valves can be installed to slow the rate of thermosiphon See more
