21.01.2022 A huge part of treating depression and anxiety is coming to terms with the blockades that are preventing you from letting go and moving forward and forcing your...self through barriers and out of your comfort zone when it feels near impossible to do. Self care is choosing to respect yourself enough to make healthy and hard decisions for growth and progression. This is a primary aspect that I help my clients through on a regular basis and its just too important to disregard. Have a read! See more

18.01.2022 While its fabulous to know how much protein we need per day, it gets a little hazy when portion sizing and quantity of protein per source is in question. I hav...e formulated a little info graphic including some healthy protein sources and their approximate protein quantity for you to have a look at! Gives a bit of a baseline and reminds us that the grams per food source doesnt equate to the nutrient intake. See more

14.01.2022 After a recent chat with a colleague of mine he suggested to write a little blog about Hanger. I love the term Hangry. It has been frequently floated about ...within marketing for places such as food outlets, health stores and colloquially used as a witty self-explanatory description of humans who to resort to a moody, frustrated demeanor when they are craving food; a feeling that evidently based on common understanding can only be eradicated by the consumption of something rather substantial. Hanger symptoms can be scary and often resemble that of zombie-like characteristics. Hanger may present as quite an apt word to describe such a state of being yet I feel there is little talk of how we get this way and I want to delve into the mechanics a little further. Much like any necessary energy source for human life, given the essential requirement for function, when there is a lacking our bodies will fight to maintain homeostasis (balance) and if this is not possible, reactions occur. Why do we get Hangry? What happens to our bodies? Nutrients required for cognitive function, a healthy nervous system, energy production, cardiovascular health and cell renewal are daily found in what we put in our bodies. When we dont get what we need, have too much of what we dont need or cannot utilize our nutrients properly we cannot operate healthily. Our internal system becomes needy and send messages to our brain advising us that something is not right and we need to fix it. This is where Hanger often comes out to play. For example: Amino acids found in some of our wholefoods are utilized for neuro-transmission; we need proper balanced nutrition for our bodies to optimize and to send clear messages to the brain. If we do not receive these messages, our whole system is in a state of miscommunication and havoc. This is where we can really acknowledge the Gut-Brain connection. The care of our physical being is paramount for the healthy function of our Mental state. How to reduce the occurrence of Hanger? 1. A good breakfast with a lean protein, good fats and dietary fiber to kick-start metabolism and feed your brain. 2. Dont leave too long between meals and opt for foods that will provide sustainable energy. If you grab a piece of high sugar fruit - have a little protein or fat source with it to reduce the instance of a blood sugar spike and drop. Snack well. 3. Eat wholefoods. Keep it real. 4. Reduce stimulants. Caffeine, refined sugars may give you energy but these artificial energy sources attack your adrenals and put stress on your body which wear you down long term. 5. Assess your emotional state and your connection with food, be mindful of what you eat, why you eat and how it affects you. Seek professional help if you cannot create a balance on your own. To put it simply, Hanger - a cry for help due to an insufficient intake of energy requirement.

12.01.2022 How much PROTEIN does the average person require on a daily basis? This is very important information to circulate and make known. Unfortunately there is a lot... of misconception and misinformation surrounding macro nutrient intake. I have noticed of late speaking with people regarding weight training and muscle building that there is a lot of confusion about protein. Please educate yourself properly and seek a professional for dietary advice. Protein is essential for muscle building, YES, however consuming excess protein than is needed to a toxicity level is detrimental to health and will do the opposite of the desired result. An individualized assessment can help ensure the correct protein intake for you. The requirements vary depending on lifestyle, physiological needs and life stages. Hope this #proteinintake #infographic helps with some basic knowledge. #nutrientreferencevalues #macro #nutrient #protein #nutrition #educate #trainsafe #eatwell #healthandwellness #nutritionist #westend #brisbane #nextlevelhealth

10.01.2022 Incredible coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of section through a human spinal nerve :) The nerve is composed of numerous bundles of myelinated axons.... In the centre is a blood vessel filled with red blood cells. The human body contains 31 paired spinal nerves. The spinal nerves connect the brain/spinal cord with the muscles of your body. If you want to move your leg, your brain sets the impulse, the signal goes down your spinal cord until it reaches the lower segments. There it gets switched to a so called "motor neuron", which leaves the spinal cord and leads to the muscle. The signal activates the muscle and it contracts. Thats how we run marathons, give each others hugs and do everything that makes us move Image by Thomas Deerinck

10.01.2022 Nice short summary

09.01.2022 Definitely on board with this particular stance. Fantastic! There are so many factors involved in why people suffer with Mental Health issues, its never black ...and white. Proper Nutrition, social adjustments, someone to talk to and more thorough care to address the root of the problem can determine more efficient and affective treatment. There is much lacking in the way of holistic treatment for Mental Health concerns within the Health Sector. Lets change things for the better by removing the stigmas and outdated methods. We can create awareness and change as a community to support, educate and empower and open the doors to more options for treatment and a healthier/natural approach. #mentalhealth #support #holistic #wecandothis #healthcare See more
