18.01.2022 #Repost @snugcounsellingau with @make_repost Invaluable advice and insight from Shannon at @snugcounsellingau #coercivecontrol If you havent watched recent episode of @insightsbs consider watching it. Yes its definitely confronting but such a crucial conversation to maintain.... A warning it may bring up negative feelings for some who've been impacted by coercive control or have witnessed the impact on a family member/friend. Pls only watch it if you feel you can, or watch it in parts, or watch it with a family member/friend. If you do decide to watch it & need to talk it through afterwards please call 1800Respect. I watched last nights episode & I recognised my former self (late teens to early 30s) in so many stories shared. It still frightens me to think of what I kept secret out of shame & embarrassment when I was not the one who should of been carrying those feelings. I didnt know any different then. It took me yrs to see it for what it was even though I didnt know the word coercive control. I certainly didnt identify as a victim of DFV within more than 1 relationship until long after I'd left relationships. Looking back with what I know now it was obvious but that was the other me, before I regained my power, could see my reality & take safe steps to change it. My main message is coercive control feeds off not only living in the silent shadows but also in the glaring daylight disguised as something other - care, concern, helplessness, love? Coercive control behaviours are none of those things whatever spin is put on it by the perpetrator.
18.01.2022 #Repost @mamamiaaus with @make_repost We will continue to count, honour, recognise and remember the Australian women and girls we lose every week to violence. #hernamewas Kelly Wilkinson, a mother of three, whose burned body was found in a suburban backyard of a Gold Coast home this morning. Queensland Police have charged a 34-year-old man known to Kelly with murder and breaching a domestic violence order. Her family have started a GoFundMe page to support her children, saying they "appreciate any help no matter how big or small".
