24.01.2022 ‘Behind the clouds the sun is still shining’ After one of the most stressful days I’ve ever experienced in business and being in the dark about what the future holds I’m so grateful to have so many supportive people around me. All of your kind comments and messages mean the absolute world to me and definitely give me hope that we, together, will come back even better and stronger.... I snapped this pic between the rain showers this morning - let it be a symbol of hope and that the sun does still shine and we will be ok. I appreciate you all Ben

17.01.2022 Chin Tucks with a Ball :Deep Neck Flexors This might seem like a small progression from our last exercise on the floor but what’s happening is a move to a muc...h more functional position where muscle & joints will be under normal load from the head & gravity will be compressing along the neck. It can be a big step, particularly if you suffer from headaches. Again, the benefit here is increasing movement to the neck & progressing the level of coordination between the bigger muscles that hold your head up & the smaller ones that control the movements between the small joints in the neck to keep movements nice & smooth. Key Points: Inflate the ball to fill the space behind the head allowing a good amount of pressure. Pushing back allows the big muscles at the front to switch off, reversing the chin poking the chin out. Rest your hand on the front of your throat to make sure the big muscles at the front aren’t active & stay soft throughout the movement. If these muscles take over, the head moves forward & pressure comes off the ball and it falls. In each position gently move the chin in & out, moving the head on top of the neck in a tucking action rolling the ball up & down a little. Lead the movement with the eyes. To refine the movement put the tip of the tongue on the palate, up behind the front teeth as you perform the nodding action. Gradually deflate the ball to allow you to move through range, get flatter against the wall & develop strength at different points in the muscles length. Often you will feel a restriction in the areas of tightness at the top of the neck or base of the scull with the muscles getting into unusual ranges & you might find it’s hard to swallow with the chin tucked in which is an example of weakness due to position. As you develop control & strength this will change. Use this as an introduction to get a little movement & if you get any symptoms from just this, follow it up & let us know. As always, if you have pain or are recovering from an injury, progress with caution. If there’s pain, there’s probably a good reason so don’t just push on, either slow down or get advice. Enjoy!
