25.01.2022 Just like Aladdin's golden cave the more you look, the more you see. How does a Ngilgi Cave tour work exactly? Firstly, we recommend booking ahead, especially if you're visiting on a weekend. When you arrive, you congregate in a meeting spot, taking in mosaic murals and the Wadandi Dreamtime story. A tour guide will share some stories and facts about the cave, leading you inside and pointing the way. Once you've got your bearings, you're free to explore the cave at your own... pace, taking it all in. Allow about an hour, and remember, the more you look, the more you see! Big thanks to @takeoffxrz for sharing such a wondrous photo! https://www.margaretriverattractions.com/caves/ngilgi-cave/

25.01.2022 We're really missing our International and Interstate visitors - @walkingfleur was fortunate to visit earlier this year and took happy memories home to the UK. On the flip side, we're so grateful to have plenty of West Australian visitors right now; those who might have taken an overseas holiday are now rediscovering the south west and exploring our own beautiful state. This sure is the year to #WanderOutYonder

23.01.2022 From honeymoons in the early 1900s to weddings in the 1980s, you can feel the love at Ngilgi Cave! This gorgeous snap features celebrant Joy Smith whose family still lives in Dunsborough and Wilyabrup, and a happy young newlywed couple If you have any fantastic photos or memorable artefacts from Ngilgi - or Yallingup Cave as it was once known - we'd love to hear from you. Please email high res scans to [email protected] attention Mark Delane. PS semi-guided tours of Ngilgi Cave run every 30 minutes, daily. Bookings highly recommended to avoid waiting - especially during long weekends!

22.01.2022 Four amazing caves in the Margaret River region, which one to visit? Well, they're all fantastic and worth exploring. For sure. And they're all unique, so what sets Ngilgi Cave apart? Firstly, it's in Yallingup, a good 40 minutes north of Mammoth and Lake Caves, and an hour north of Jewel Cave. For lots of our visitors, it's convenient if they're staying in Busselton, Yallingup or Dunsborough.... Secondly, it's got an adventurous feel to it. Take these stairs for example, you really need to bend to the right to avoid bumping your noggin, and being old/pre-OHS, the stairs aren't always even in height and size. Everyone* (*under the age of 12) LOVES our tunnel of doom, crawling through a real crystal tunnel, not knowing where you might emerge. Don't worry though, the tunnel is optional and it's a short loop you can easily bypass and keep enjoying the rest of the cave. Thirdly, it's a semi-guided format. Tours start every half hour, and the guide is with you for fifteen minutes before letting you explore the cave at your own pace. Finally, Ngilgi has an amazing amphitheatre near the entrance, with its ceiling covered in thousands of stalactites. It has near perfect acoustics, and Dame Nellie Melba once performed there. True fact. So we totally understand if it's another cave you choose, but if you pick Ngilgi, we really look forward to welcoming you. Just be sure to book ahead, especially at weekends! : @lynlee_diaries

21.01.2022 Do you see the Leaning Tower of Pisa, or a scrumptious, melting wedding cake? You'll see a dazzling array of crystal formations 13 storeys underground in Ngilgi Cave, and with a healthy imagination / sense of humour these 500,000 year-old stalactites and columns suddenly transform into all kinds of foods and famous landmarks! We run a semi-guided tour here at Ngilgi, starting every 30 minutes. That means your guide shows you into the cave, shares some history and points yo...u in the right direction so you can explore at your own pace. It's super relaxed and loads of fun, and we'd love to welcome you soon. Bookings recommended, especially at weekends and holidays. Big thanks for the excellent photo IG/mags.petrie

21.01.2022 We're open 7 days a week and look forward to welcoming you to Ngilgi Cave. If you've visited the Perth or Peel regions since 17 April, we remind you to please wear a mask. We're operating according to Covid-safe protocols which includes reduced capacity on our guided tours. Bookings are highly recommended to avoid missing out. You can book online at margaretriverattractions.com or by phoning us on 9757 7411.

20.01.2022 Happy news - Yallingup is safe, and Ngilgi Cave is open today. There was a bushfire in the national park last night, but thankfully local volunteer firefighters did a sterling job, helped by heavy rains throughout the night and this morning. Thank you to all these incredible volunteers, we really appreciate it. So, if you'd like to escape the rain and explore a crystal cave, come on down to see us at Ngilgi today. Bookings are essential, so hop on our website and book your ti...ckets. And in extra good news, we have 50% off tickets all week, ending Sunday 14 February. 20.01.2022 IG/jessiemellows_ was paying attention - she found our fairy cave! The window to this cave is at hip height, so it's easy to miss, but look out for it just after the guide's post which is deep within the cave. The dainty and delicate fairy cave features a series of stalactite with dog's tooth crystals at the tips. How so? There must have once been a pool of saturated crystal solution which the tips of the stalactites touched, allowing dog's tooth crystals to grow. ...Eventually the pool of solution disappeared, leaving the stunning crystal formations. Enjoy this and so much more as you wander through Ngilgi Cave - but be sure to book online as tours are filling fast

20.01.2022 South West Eco Discoveries tagged us, and it's too good not to share! Brothers Mick and Ryan are the fellas behind South West Eco Discoveries and they're passionate about sharing the precious flora and fauna and amazing scenery around Yallingup, Meelup and Cape Naturaliste. They've been exploring the bushland and regional parks since they were kids, and now get to share it with nature-loving tourists. Who wouldn't be stoked to end up here, checking out the granite ( and view!) at Meelup and Castle Rock?! It's a timely reminder to book ahead if you're heading south soon, whether it's a special tour, cave experience or lunch - the region is in for a busy summer, so get in and don't miss out! During the school holidays, Ngilgi Cave is open every day except Christmas Day.

19.01.2022 Looking at this glorious Yallingup coastline, you'd never guess what lies beneath the ridge... over 100 limestone caves between Cape Naturaliste in the north, and Cape Leeuwin in the south. These beautiful caves were hollowed out of porous limestone a million years ago, then massive rainfalls helped form incredible calcite crystals. Four show caves are open for you to explore - the other 100 or so are protected, to preserve their delicate and sensitive decorations. If you've... already visited Ngilgi Cave, why not try one of the other caves? Mammoth is brilliant for young children and its first chamber is wheelchair accessible. It's also a critical megafauna site. Lake Cave is a photographer's dream; an amazing doline entrance and a subterranean lake that reflects the crystal decorations. Jewel Cave is a true wonderland, a huge and highly decorated cave with fossilised animal remains. So, grab a torch and check out a cave or two as you #wanderoutyonder - you'll discover something amazing! Visiting at a weekend or holidays? Definitely book ahead to secure a spot on a tour, as things are booking up fast - https://www.margaretriverattractions.com/caves/ngilgi-cave/

19.01.2022 "Ngilgi Cave. By far my favourite" so says @life_as_a_penna. School holidays are here again, so be sure to jump online or call us to book your tour and avoid missing out. Hot tip: the first and last tour of the day is usually quietest! Actually, this advice goes for all the other cool things you might want to do in the southwest; it's a funny year, so book ahead for meals, wine tastings, tours and experiences where possible. Happy travels! https://www.margaretriverattractions.com/caves/ngilgi-cave/

19.01.2022 Whatta find! Kelly Lamp found this cave ticket hidden in a door frame while renovating her nearby cottage. It must be at least 54 years old, because we moved from shillings to decimal currency in 1966! Great find Kelly, thanks so much for sharing it with us! Speaking of tickets, most of our tours are selling out the night ahead, so we urge you to book ahead for maximum holiday happiness. Jump on our website or give us a bell on 9780 5911. Thanks team!... https://www.margaretriverattractions.com/caves/ngilgi-cave/

18.01.2022 Since it's school holidays, it’s great to have a few activities up your sleeve to keep the kids entertained. A trip to cave is a sure way to tire them out, especially if you’ve just come from the Margaret River Chocolate Company or the Candy Cow At Ngilgi Cave, we have a crawl tunnel for the little ones, so they feel like true explorers. And yes, mum and dad usually get dragged in too! To make it more exciting, there is crawl tunnel record, so ask you guide what the current record is, and see if you’re up to the challenge Tim Campbell Photo

17.01.2022 This is the breathtaking Cape Naturaliste coastline, home to the Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse. If you look very closely, and perhaps zoom in, you'll be able to see the stunning lighthouse on the left hand side of the photo. Cape Naturaliste is at the northern tip of the South West, and is only a short 25 minute drive from Ngilgi Cave. After exploring the cave, perhaps you can head over and hop on a guided lighthouse tour Bookings are essential for both cave and lighthouse tours, so head to our website or call 9780 5911 to book. We'll see you soon Elements Margaret River

16.01.2022 It's a winter wonderland here, folks While IG/tremy001 was admiring crystal stalactites below ground, it was raining cats and dogs upstairs! Such is the beauty of our show caves, they're just perfect and peaceful on a wintry day.

16.01.2022 Don't forget to stop and take it all in It's not every day you wander around a million-year-old limestone cave, deep underground the Yallingup bush. Remember to pause and soak up your surroundings!

15.01.2022 Now, if we're to share one important message about the cave right now, it's to ask you to please book ahead for your semi guided tour. September's usually whisper quiet, but as this is the year to #wanderoutyonder, we're stoked to welcome more West Aussies than ever before. Book ahead, and we can't wait to see you!

15.01.2022 Thank you to all our recent guests for being part of our region's recovery. Each time you visit one of the local caves or lighthouses, or Forest Adventures South West, you're helping us keep these incredible sites going, and we really appreciate it. Of course you're also staying in local resorts, holiday parks or cabins, eating at our cafes and restaurants, and buying from wineries, breweries and shops. Working in tourism, everything came to a standstill in March, and it's su...ch a joy to be sharing this beautiful region with you once again, and to see local businesses bouncing back. So to all our lovely visitors, thank you, we are so grateful to have you back. And big thanks to Anna Terlick @anna_terlick for this pic from her recent visit. We're glad you had a great time!

14.01.2022 Our friends at Mammoth Cave are running their brilliant Megafauna Nightstalks during the school holidays. Loads of fun for the family. Book online via the event link to avoid disappointment!

13.01.2022 Look up, down, all around... we don't want you to miss a thing! It's a semi-guided tour here at Ngilgi Cave, and the more you look, the more you'll see. Tours depart every half hour with a guide letting you into the cave, sharing some history and getting you oriented once inside. From there you can explore the cave at your own pace, seeing a second guide at the deepest point and slowly admiring the million year old karst and spectacular crystals. When you do so, be sure to tag us in your pictures, just like IG/trev_vo

13.01.2022 Today is International Day of Caves and the Subterranean World - a day to increase awareness about the significance of caves to our environment, culture, history and economy. And we're also celebrating because we can now welcome 15 guests on each cave tour! We'd love you to join us at Ngilgi Cave or any of the beautiful show caves in the region - Mammoth and Lake Cave within Boranup Forest and Jewel Cave near Augusta. All are unique and simply beautiful! "I think this cave might just be big enough for my future cellar " - @ashgreaves we're not sure if this is what's meant by "wine cave" but we love your creative thinking!

13.01.2022 Imagine arriving here in 1899, at Western Australia's trendiest honeymoon destination, Yallingup's newly opened cave. There was no hopping into the 4WD for an easy 3 hour ride along the Forest Highway. Instead, you caught a train from Perth to Busselton then made your way on horseback along dusty trails to the cave. It was a full day's journey with no hot bath or luxury accommodation to greet you - Caves House was still a few years away from being built. Instead, you pitched ...a tent with your new husband. The next day you wore your finest hooped skirts and boned bodice making it slightly challenging to breathe. Hubby wore a three piece suit and shiny leather shoes. Excitedly, you joined a guide and other guests, all carrying candles or kerosene lamps as you descended into the cave. You tried not to set yourselves on fire as you spent an entire day climbing over boulders, shimmying through narrow spots and walking on uneven rocky ground. There was no electricity, no boardwalks, no beautifully lit caverns or signage. 121 years later and we have the luxury of comfortable boardwalks and professional guides. We even have gorgeous accommodation, great restaurants and a big carpark for your 4WD. So lucky! Stage 4 restrictions naturally means we're still limiting guest numbers in the cave, and tours have been fully booked as a result. We urge you to book online before you come to avoid disappointment - we can't wait to welcome you!

12.01.2022 Excellent news - Our Ngilgi Cave Adventure Tours were named among the Top 100 Australian holiday locations! https://www.perthnow.com.au//wa-destinations-named-among-t

12.01.2022 Smiles and hugs all round for @escapingordinaryaustralia on their Ngilgi visit! Thanks for tagging us in your pic! There's four unique caves open for us to visit in the Margaret River region, and Ngilgi Cave is probably the most family friendly. A friendly guide shows you in and spends about 15 minutes with you, before you can explore the cave at your own speed. When you get to the large chamber at the deepest part of the cave, a second guide is waiting to answer any questions and point out some cool formations. Oh, and we forgot to mention the best thing - we have a CRAWL TUNNEL aka the Tunnel of Doom, and we haven't met a kid that doesn't love it!

12.01.2022 A message about the Temporary Closure of Forest Adventures, Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse, Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse, Ngilgi Cave, Mammoth Cave, Lake Cave and Jewel Cave. If you have a booking for any of these attractions, between now and 5th February inclusive, the reservations team will be in contact to organise a full refund. South West WA is in lockdown until 6pm Friday 5th February, and as a result, these attractions will be temporarily closed. We are very much looking forwa...rd to welcoming everyone back soon, but in the meantime please do not hesitate to contact our team on (08) 9757 7411 with any questions you might have. Thanks for your patience, and we look forward to seeing you in the Margaret River region soon.

11.01.2022 Apart from Ngilgi Cave, some other iconic attractions in the Dunsborough and Yallingup area include Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse and Sugarloaf Rock. You can see Sugarloaf Rock in the background of this photo - its a gigantic granite rock that emerges from the Indian Ocean. This formation is actually one of the most photographed coastal landforms in the region. Luckily, there's a fantastic elevated lookout platform near Sugarloaf's carpark, so you can get some great photos. You could also hop on one of the walking trails that takes you between Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse and Sugarloaf Rock, which is even wheelchair and stroller accessible! Elements Margaret River

10.01.2022 Winter holidays. Just the time to go rock hopping on the beach, mountain biking through the Meelup trails, zip lining at Forest Adventures South West or (best of all!) venturing deep underground in a crystal cave Explore at your own pace on a Ngilgi Cave semi-guided tour. Your guide welcomes you, shares some information then lets you go and explore. At the deepest, furthest point of the cave, you'll see another guide who can point out some of the coolest stalactites and a...nswer your questions. Right now, due a certain virus that won’t be named, we can only take about half as many people on each tour compared to 'normal'. That means a lot of people will drive all the way here, only to miss out on seeing the beautiful cave Trust us, you don't want to miss out, so please jump on to our website and book ahead. You’ll love it. The kids will love it. And you’ll get some epic photos, just like @wandering.waray did here

09.01.2022 All this cave bacon is makin' me hungry! It's easy to see why shawl formations also get named after our favourite breakfast treat. Water doesn't always form drops - sometimes it trickles down the cave ceiling, depositing a narrow strip of calcite, that eventually results in a thin sheet or shawl... AKA cave bacon. Like stalactites and other formations, shawls take thousands of years to form, during which time the levels of tannins or minerals in the solution change, result...ing in distinct stripes of colour. Look out for this stunning example just after the guide station in the mid-way part of your cave journey. And sorry, you can't eat this bacon! Thanks so much to @curtrm for sharing your epic photo!

09.01.2022 What a handsome couple they are, touring Ngilgi Cave! Social distancing means we're running much smaller group tours at Ngilgi Cave, Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse and the other attractions around the region. For this reason (and school holidays) we urge you to book ahead, whether it's a cave tour, a lunch booking, a horse riding lesson or something else. Plan and book, and you'll be happy as you #wanderoutyonder Call us on 9780 5911 or visit our website to book - https://www.ma...rgaretriverattractions.com/caves/ngilgi-cave/ @adventure4_2

09.01.2022 It's like leg day at the gym! There's a few stairs at Ngilgi Cave, and recent guest @andria_w_ has photographic evidence! An underground adventure through a million year old cave is an epic way to stretch the legs after a big brekkie or lunch. And if you're bringing your family, you're in luck - we specialise in wearing kids out. So if you've dosed them up on doughnuts at the local bakery, wear them out on a cave tour! We're still taking relatively small groups on each tour, to adhere to social distancing rules, so be sure to book ahead to guarantee your preferred time. Especially during weekends and holidays! Hot tip: the first and last tour of the day is always the quietest.

08.01.2022 It's the beloved crawl tunnel, a short crawl space just near our cave entrance. Kids love it and usually drag mum and dad in (ouch, my knees!) then proceed to crawl it again and again as their parents wait patiently. This is part of what makes Ngilgi such a great cave for kids - it's an adventurous cave and you can enjoy it at your own pace. So go on kids, see if you can beat the crawl tunnel record! (It's up in the 60s, ask your guide!)

07.01.2022 Fab news - we were named one of the Top 100 Australian Holiday Destinations by Choice Hotels this week for our Adventure Tours. These underground tours involve climbing and crawling through the deepest caverns, with just your head torch illuminating the way. It's a great adventure and new perspective if you've done our boardwalk tour before! @nickkarki on Instagram

07.01.2022 It's International Lighthouse Day this Saturday, and our buddies at Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse would love you to join in the celebrations. The Dunsborough Rural Fire Brigade will be set up on the lighthouse grounds with a fire truck for the kids to climb in and a sausage sizzle from 9am to 1pm ish on Saturday 22 August. Funds from the Heritage Passes (entry to the grounds) will be donated to the fire brigade to help them continue their excellent work. There'll be amateur radio broadcasting all weekend, and guided tours where you can go inside the working lighthouse too.

06.01.2022 'Froback Friday to some fabulous 80s fashion and one of the wonderful weddings hosted in Ngilgi Cave. When we first found and shared this photo (while renovating the ticketing area) we instantly had a message from the celebrant Joy Smith's family - it turns out she conducted a number of ceremonies deep in Yallingup Cave, as it was called then. If you have any old postcards, tickets or photos from Ngilgi Cave we'd love to hear from you - please call or send us a message!

06.01.2022 It’s HOLIDAYS and we couldn’t be happier But we’re also a bit concerned about being able to fit all our lovely visitors on tours during the next couple of weeks! That means a lot of people will drive all the way here, only to miss out on experiencing the amazing Ngilgi Cave Trust us, you want to avoid missing out, so please jump on to our website and book ahead. You’ll love it. The kids will love it. And you’ll get some epic photos, just like Lizzy Pepper Marketing did when she visited last week

03.01.2022 The number of times we've called out "go back, you need to check out the fairy cave!" It's in the main chamber, deep within Ngilgi, just a little past the guide station. It's at elbow height so it's pretty easy to walk straight past it, especially if you're tall. So we recommend going slowly, looking all around you at each step, as the cave keeps revealing more the harder you look. ... This little cavern must have once been filled with saturated solution, so when tiny straws touched the water, clusters of dogtooth crystal formed. The solution has long since gone, but the delicate crystals remain, with a tiny window into the scene. Thanks IG/jessiemellows_ for visiting and sharing this wonderful memory!

01.01.2022 Stairs, stairs, stairs. Gotta say, here at Ngilgi Cave we specialise in wearing kids out. So if you've dosed them up on doughnuts at the local bakery, wear them out on a cave tour! We're currently taking a maximum 15 guests on each tour, so be sure to book ahead to guarantee your preferred time. Especially during holidays! Hot tip: the first and last tour of the day is always the quietest.

01.01.2022 "Margaret River is world renowned for its abundance of natural wonders, but less so for the stunning formations lying beneath the surface." Writer Kate Jones from SCOOP ventured below the Leeuwin-Naturaliste Ridge, to discover limestone caves boasting unique crystal formations and fossils of now-extinct animals.
