14.02.2022 You may remember Jalu, he was one of two koalas spotted by senior ranger Grant Rhodes from Ngunya Jargoon IPA and Maria Matthes, in the aftermath of the Wardell... fire. Jalu has been doing really well in the expert care of Marley, the IFAW sponsored vet nurse at Friends of the Koala Inc. here he’s posing up a storm. Photo credit Friends of the Koala.

27.01.2022 A huge thanks to the wonderful Koala Hospital Port Macquarie for donating four Blinky Drinkers to our friends at Ngunya Jargoon IPA near Wardell. These water st...ations named after ‘Blinky Bill’ are definitely going to help koalas and other native wildlife stay hydrated in the aftermath of the fires that swept through this wildlife refuge. A big thank you to Friends of the Koala Inc. for all your help in finding, rescuing and rehabilitating koalas in the area and NSW RFS Wardell for helping to install the Blinky Drinkers. What a great ‘koalaboration’ See more

14.01.2022 UPDATE FROM THE FIELD: Bear, IFAW's koala detection dog at Detection Dogs for Conservation successfully located a bushfire survivor in Ngunya Jargoon IPA, Warde...ll. Bear led the search team - handler Riana Gardiner, local ecologist and Friend of the Koala volunteer, Maria Matthes, Senior Ranger Grant Rhodes and IFAW wildlife campaigner Josey Sharrad to a burnt tree and indicated the presence of a koala by dropping to the ground. High up in the tree was a young male koala, munching on remnant leaf. He was too high for the team to assess him fully, but on first inspection, looked to be in reasonably good health. As a precaution, a trap will be set up under his tree so that he can be brought to Friends of the Koala Inc. for a full health check. 08.01.2022 IPA koalas rescued in the wildfire

01.01.2022 Yesterday afternoon, we joined Friends of the Koala Inc. and Bear, our koala detection dog, along with his handler from Detection Dogs for Conservation. We visi...ted the Ngunya Jargoon IPA in Ballina to search for any surviving koalas in the aftermath of the Wardell fire. Senior indigenous ranger, Grant Rhodes kindly guided the team, confirming that up to 20-40 koalas lived in this wildlife hotspot prior to the fires that destroyed 85% of 1,000 hectares. Two koalas Jalu and Kajika were previously rescued by Friends of the Koala from this fire ground and other survivors sighted recently. Bear indicated there are definitely live koalas in the area which is promising. We will continue to search and keep you posted. Please donate here: https://g.ifaw.org/357ud6m See more
