25.01.2022 Less than 24 hours left to register a team! We have an orphans team that needs another two players. If you know someone that wants to play on the day but may not have enough team members, let me know and I will get them all together!
24.01.2022 Phew, its over for another year. Beach Volleyball is done and dusted. We have had great feedback from the event and it sounds as though the whole community loved it. Thanks to everyone for attending, playing and behaving well over the day. Another successful event was had and everyone made it home safe. For those that didn't hand around, I will do a rundown here and will do some more soon but I need a bit of a rest for a couple of days first! So onto the results! ... The returning and defending champs were The Blunderers! Congratulation Davin et al. The perpetual trophy may soon be referred to as the Blunderer trophy instead of the Perpetual Trophy kindly donated by The Walkabout Hotel. They also received some amazing (not real though!) gold medallions and $500 in cash from JBM! Thanks JBM! Runners up were the Wantoks - second place and they are going for the championship next year! As well as some fancy silver medallions, they also received $250 cash from BP! Thanks Lisa and BP! Third place was team Galiwinku, down a couple of places on a few years ago but still up there with the best. They received some shiny bronze trinkets and $250 in cash from Arnhem Land Pest Control! The raffle prize of a $1000 Banubanu voucher was Callan Bryce, second prize - a $500 voucher from Gove Warehouse was won by Chris Parfitt and a third prize voucher for Studio Em was won by the Refinery's very own Jimmy! The Mens and Women's beach sprints were originally going to be vouchers for town but as the women's sprint winner was from Galiwinku and the men's beach sprint winner was from Datjala community crew, they may have not been able to use them, so we elected to give the a bit of cash instead, again kindly donated by JBM. Thanks JBM! The kids sprints (which unfortunately a few little 'uns missed out on - sorry!) was $25 cash for the ones that won and it was kindly donated by Arnhem Early Learning Centre. The dance-offs went somewhat well but we only had one team effort this year. we had a couple of prizes here - I got some random people who I didn't know to judge a couple of $50 prizes donated by BP and some $100 vouchers from East Arnhem Real Estate and Arnhem Allied Health were judged by another local community favourite but I won't mention their name for fear of repercussions! :-p The best dressed teams got some stubby coolers to keep their drinks cool while utilising their shiny new fishing lures proudly donated by Megan from Gove Real Estate. Congrats to the Spikadeliks and The Volley Ball! Thanks to Chute Photography for the image I used in this post, what an amazing picture, have a look at their shots of the day, some great action shots and candid shots, great work guys! https://www.facebook.com/btchutephotography A huge thank you goes out from Rotary and the community for all the prize givers generosity. Another successful day methinks. Thanks Everyone!
22.01.2022 As you all know we had a big raffle on the day at Beach Volleyball, with a massive $1000 Banubanu voucher up for grabs! So the winner is Well a little background first, you need to work for it! When I sent out a request for donations from the local community, I didn’t expect much to come back because it has not been such a great year for businesses, especially accommodation and tourism.... Then I received an email from Helen and Trevor offering us a huge $1000 voucher! Thank you so much. It can be used across any of their businesses: Banubanu Beach Retreat the incredible accommodation and restaurant facilities on Bremer Island. Such luxury, how great would it be to spend the day there recovering from Beach Volleyball! The sun, the sand, the cocktails and the gorgeous outlook, it would like you were back there again sans all the physical exertion! Or you could use it to take yourself and some friends over on Bremer Island Cruises and have a traditional long lunch day trip in beautiful and serene location. Or maybe you could cruise around in Gove Harbour and watch the gorgeous sunset over the bay on a Sunset Cruise. If adrenalin is your thing, you could use it on a Nomad Fishing Tour and head out for a day of fishing adventures and catch your lunch and dinner! All fisherman tell you the one they caught was this big, but with such great fishing guides on Nomad Fishing tours here in Arnhem Land, you are practically guaranteed to ACTUALLY catch a big one! Second and third prize are no slouch either, but they get their own posts. I don’t to distract from any of the great donations we have received from local businesses and I need to thank them all personally and publicly for their generous community spirit. Thank you so much Banubanu! www.banubanu.com And now for the other important part the winner is: Callan Bryce! I will be in contact soon Callan, congratulations!
22.01.2022 Well, it's that time of year again... Beach Volleyball is ON!! ... well it is at the moment. Obviously things could change given current circumstances but we are gonna try our best to get it happening! All major organisations have been contacted and liquor licence is in processing. Saturday 29 August 2020 is the date. Start at 8:30... As per usual, its a day of fun and fundraising, but don't be an idiot, respect others and just enjoy yourselves. There will be a few differences this year because of Covid procedures but all in all, it should be a great day. Tickets are available from 30 July here: https://cutt.ly/RBV2020 Indemnity Forms available here: https://cutt.ly/BVindemnity
22.01.2022 The Beach Volleyball day raffle was a great success, with first prize from Banubanu, second prize was just as good! Bob from Gove Warehouse replied the morning after I sent out a request for prizes the previous evening. No hesitation, straight way - we will be happy to donate $500 of goods and services to this event! How great is that! Thanks Gove Warehouse. ... Have you been down there lately, the whole shop has changed and feels much more open and modern. They have done a great job with the redesign and there will are and will be many more new items coming into stock soon. In fact they have a wall size 85 inch TV down there. That thing is huge and how great is it that we are able get something like it locally in Nhulunbuy. No shipping company will send such large items remotely so Gove Warehouse have taken it upon themselves to help us out and bring in great items like this so we have that availability in our community. The outdoor garden sales area just makes me feel like I am wandering into a big box store in the city and has a great selection of plants and other equipment available. There are so many things available at Gove Warehouse, maybe they should adopt that Alice Springs' company slogan, if we don't have it, you don't need it! The $500 voucher is such a great prize that we thought it should be raffled off too! Together with the other prizes, this helped us raise another $1200 this year at the event. Thanks Gove Warehouse! http://www.govewarehouse.com.au/ And the second person drawn was: Chris Parfitt! Congratulation Chris, I will be in touch soon! Thank you Gove Warehouse!
20.01.2022 Hi Crazy Gove-ites - we have had a last minute cancellation and we have a team opening! If anybody has been a bit slack ... well maybe not slack but left things until the last minute and intended to register JUST before the cables were cut and well it was all out of your control then unfortunately ... So hit me up via email or on 0438 848 648 and register a last minute team! Come on people, let's get it done!
19.01.2022 Who is going to knock off the Blunderers from their perch this year? Everyone can get dressed up to go to The Volley Ball and the music provided by the Guns and Hoses might make the Servivors Get Lit and Hit hard because they certainly won’t be making a Soft Serve on the day! Ain’t That a Beach that the Wantoks will hit The Oblate Spheroids to the Volleynesians and might score the winning points on the day. Better keep an eye on those dangerous Nhulunbuy ...Buffs to make sure they don’t ruin the games! Seriously though, those are the team that have registered so far. I also have an additional 7 teams who have paid but I have not received their team names or indemnity forms back yet. BUT .. they might match up with some of the team forms but non-payment that I have received. So if the Nhulunbuy Buffs or The Volley Ball have had someone else on their team pay for their entry, can you shoot me an email and let me know please so I can link up payments and Team names please. Those that have paid but with no team forms are: Josh Blundell, Kirsty Sheehy and Rochelle McGrath (and two others but they will be sorted soon Rob and Kathryn.) I sent you all an email too! Time for the sponsor spam soon, thank you to all those local businesses that have donated things, I will be around soon to pick them all up! If you haven’t and want to, we are still up for donations from whomever would like to help out on the day. Volunteers to help pack up at the tail end of the day are always welcome too! Please think seriously next time you want to buy something and buy it locally if you can, we couldn't do events like this without the support of local businesses!
17.01.2022 You know what's good about Beach Volleyball (except the great day of fun and the money we raise of course!)? Going swimming and being able to do that safely. Gove Surf Club have been helping us out for years, patrolling the beach on the day and letting everyone have a fab old time. That nearly didn't happen this year, they don't have enough members to run a patrol. We and they have had to fly people in from outside the region to be able to open the beach. We want to say a... huge thank you to Surf Lifesaving Northern Territory (NT Surf) and the Gove Peninsula Surf Life Saving Club for helping us run this great community event. The Surf Club needs volunteers to be able to open the beach and do patrols, why not volunteer, get your qualifications and be able to take the kids down to do nippers and have a great surf experience. To both GPSLSC and NT surf, we thank you wholeheartedly for going above and beyond to help us run the event and raise funds for the local community.
16.01.2022 Cold beer, great food, a day in the sun, a little friendly competition. What more could you want? You certainly couldn't have cold beer or good food without a ruddy big fridge which is kindly donated to us every year by our local freight service company Seaswift! They also drop it off, pick it up and give us another container to store all of the other fences and things in before and after the event. Hot beer is not good. The community as a whole thanks you Seaswift!

16.01.2022 Well, it has been awhile since Beach Volleyball and a little while until the next one - which is likely going to be 21 August 2021 - so put it in your diaries now!! A few background complexities around the event which caused a great deal of stress, a new job, moving house, some other random things that popped up and a bit of burn out from Beach Volleyball fever ... has seen me neglect the ongoing promotion of our fabled, fantastic, fabulous, phenomenal, FANTABULOUS sponsors... this year until now. For that I can only apologise, keep tune over the next little while as I thank them for their ongoing support and assistance for our itty bitty events! We can't have infrastructure for food and beverages, courts, fences, a beach to play on, smooth beaches to play on, music and commentary, swimming safely at the beach, prizes to give away or any sort of event without assistance from others. Please follow and encourage others to follow the Nhulunbuy Rotary Facebook page to make people aware of the great contribution to our community by local businesses and organisations. Oh and to keep up with the latest news about all of our events too! Have a look at the Nhulunbuy Rotary Club's Noticeboard in town and upcoming posts here thanking our sponsors.
15.01.2022 Machinery to create a level, wide and smooth beach, fencing supplies, lighting, support throughout the year, organising events around our little event - what more could you ask? That's great work and it is all kindly donated every year for our event by the Nhulunbuy Corporation. Thanks to the crew who help us out each year and your generosity, thanks Nhulunbuy Corporation.
15.01.2022 We have pristine waters, so inviting, so lovely ... but you can't swim in them. Except on the day of Beach Volleyball! We nearly couldn't do it this year but it wouldn't be Beach Volleyball without opening the beach for swimming. Guess who handles that? Gove Peninsula Surf Lifesaving Club goes above and beyond for us at our events especially this year. We couldn't have the beach open without you, thank you form Rotary and the entire community for your efforts before and on the day. You rock Gove Peninsula Surf Lifesaving Club and Surf Lifesaving NT!
12.01.2022 Rotary are meeting outside at The Walkabout near the pool tonight Saturday 10 October at 6.30pm. Come along, join us and have a chat! We're always looking for new members and new ideas!
12.01.2022 Beach Volleyball - yes please. But we couldn't do it without ... well ... the beach. For over 30 years Dhimurru and the traditional owners of Middle Beach have kindly allowed us to hold our event here for the community to enjoy. Thank you to the traditional owners for allowing us to utilise this amazing place for our event each year. Rotarians, the wider community and the beneficiaries of our fundraising appreciate you letting us use the beach for out event each year. ... Thank you goes out to the Dhimurru board, its members and the Traditional Owners.
11.01.2022 Due to current circumstances, we have changed our AGM from the clubhouse to a Zoom meeting. Details are below: Nhulunbuy Rotary is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting. Topic: Rotary AGM... Time: Apr 9, 2020 07:00 PM Darwin Join Zoom Meeting https://us04web.zoom.us/j/123324943 Meeting ID: 123 324 943 Password: 221195 Thank you.
11.01.2022 Da, da, da-da, da-dum-dum, da-da, da-dum-dum, da-da, da, da, da-da. The music on the day is MUCH better than my attempt above ... That would be because of the superb music selection, superior comedic commentary, and the awesome equipment proudly and kindly donated each and every year by our local community radio station - Gove FM! Thanks Gove FM, although I did miss the buzzer this year, you do such an amazing job at each and every community event, we should bottle your esse...nce and sell it! Thanks Gove FM!
08.01.2022 There are a couple of hours n putting in star pickets, putting up fences and getting the courts up in ship shape condition for your playing pleasure. Plus they pull it all down again and clean up the beach afterwards. How good is that?! Thanks the the crew at Datjala work camp for all of their assistance. This event wouldn't happen without you guys, plus you cleaned up in the mens' sprints and dancing. Well done! ... Thanks Datjala!
07.01.2022 There are five rotary members. We all work full time. It takes 15 people half a day or more to set up all the fences and courts and set up all the bins. The labour required from the Rotarians to set up the event just doesn't add up. Unless you are reading a lawyer's bill, or you're an accountant - then it's magic maths that comes into play! ... How do we do it? We are kindly provided a heap of support from the local Datjala Community Working Group that come and assist us by doing the set-up the day before, the clean up and pull down on the day, as well as looking after Rotary House throughout the year. They also assist in looking after the Surf club, keeping our community clean and lots of other great community assistance. If the five of us had to set up all the things they do for us to run the event for the day - it simply wouldn't happen anymore because we don't have the manpower. So from the entire community, Nhulunbuy Rotarians and those that get assistance from our fundraising, thank you Datjala!
06.01.2022 How good are all these local organisations? They help us out every year with an event - can you think what it is? Hopefully they will help us out again sometime around the 29 August ... ... Save the date!
06.01.2022 Enjoying hearing the scores, next round and the leaderboard? Enjoying the groovy music for the day? LOVING the bell? Enjoying the smooth and sultry tones of Rob Stewart and the other volunteers at Gove FM? Obviously without the amazing equipment, the amazing skills, the amazing people at our amazing local radio station 8EAR Gove FM, amazingly enough - we couldn't do it without you! From Nhulunbuy Rotary, the local community and recipients of our fundraising, we thank you Gove FM.
06.01.2022 For 31 years now, our major sponsor Rio Tinto has proudly supported the Nhulunbuy Rotary Beach Volleyball Competition. Rio Tinto’s in-kind support in excess of $10,000 each and every year helps to ensure this major community event can happen, through the provision of services and equipment such as portable power generation and equipment, ablution and waste removal, as well as the major scaffolding infrastructure, We couldn't put on a community event such as this without the huge investment that Rio Tinto has kindly provided to Rotary every year. Rotarians, the community and the beneficiaries of our fundraising thank you Rio Tinto for assisting us in holding this event every year. Thank you!
05.01.2022 Of course our major sponsor needs no introductions. Thank you for the ongoing support, year after year for all of our structures, power and assistance. 30 years young, Thanks Rio Tinto!
05.01.2022 Broom Broom! Broom Broom! Or is it - brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrooooommmmmm as the cars circle the track and you are munching down on that tasty tasty burger you just got from the canteen while watching the mud fly. ... Or in fact from the food supply tent next to us! We couldn't pull together this massive event without having food available and we simply couldn't manage to do it so we want to thank Nhulunbuy Speedway volunteers for cooking up a storm and helping us out each year. Thanks Speedway!
04.01.2022 Great burgers and man they were FAST! Anyone would think they were made in a speedy way or something. No just the practiced hand of the Nhulunbuy Speedway crew who provide the masses with food every year. Great at making them, great at quantities, great at service, awesome job guys! Thanks Nhulunbuy Speedway crew for providing us with tasty sustenance on the day!
04.01.2022 Since we knew we were going to have lots of tickets sold on the day, we needed a third prize to offer people because we knew they were going to spend up big! Emma jumped in straight away and offered a voucher for use at her salon Studio Em! Emma has a great client base here in Nhulunbuy and from what I have heard, she does amazing work. So much so that I understand she is booked out for a long long time in the future! If you have a waiting list that long, you must be good...! The winner can use their voucher to book in for a service in September .... 2028 from what I hear!! Drop in for a colour, a chat, a coffee or any services you would normally expect from a salon because Emma has made it her mission to provide everything for her remote customers and clientele that you could get in the big smoke. Thanks Studio Em for donating to our event and being a part of raising $1200 for the day! https://www.facebook.com/studioemhairandtanning/ Oh and the winner is ... Jimmy from the Refinery! At least you won't have far to go!
03.01.2022 Cold beers; probably the second most important part of the day. We couldn't have cold beer or good food without that rather large fridge that sits beside the bar. Its about the same size as the shipping container that sits next to it. They are delivered across the sea swiftly to our location by a mob called ... Seaswift! Seaswift have done a lot for us at Rotary over the years not just for beach volleyball. They have given us in-kind freight on other occasions including getting our eskies across from Darwin. So when you're drinking that cold beverage on Saturday or in fact at any Rotary event, look down at it and whisper quietly .... Thank you Seaswift .... That's exactly what we always say "Thank you Seaswift! "
02.01.2022 Year after year our ablutions waste and bins are cleaned away form site during and at the end of the day. Its a dirty job but someone has to do it so we want to give out thanks to Cleanaway for helping us out on the day. Thanks Cleanaway!
01.01.2022 For more than 30 years, Rio Tinto has proudly supported the Nhulunbuy Rotary Beach Volleyball Competition. Our in-kind support in excess of $10,000 each year he...lps to ensure this major community event can happen, through the provision of services and equipment such as portable power generation and equipment, ablution and waste removal, as well as scaffolding. Thank you to our Services team and to the Nhulunbuy Rotary Club for working hard over the decades to bring this important event to life each year. See more
01.01.2022 The beach just doesn't become that level naturally, the equipment doesn't get stored all year and just appear at the beach, the fencing supplies aren't ours and the forklift and water tanks don't just magically appear, the labour to get all this sorted and ready for installation doesn't just magically happen a few days and weeks before and after the event (although I swear some people think they do) ! These and other things are kindly donated to us by the Nhulunbuy Corporation each year. they have supported us for many years and we couldn't do it without you. From all of us that enjoy the beach volleyball and reap the benefits, thank you Nhulunbuy Corporation for all your donations and assistance over the years!
