25.01.2022 Did you know today is World Hello Day? The perfect day to make your neighbourhood even better simply by saying "hello". Let's make a game of it. How many people can you say hello to today?... Say hello to people you see: On your morning walk While you're out riding At the supermarket While you're waiting at the post office When you're in the front yard At the petrol station You never know. You may just make someone's day!

24.01.2022 Bush fire season is upon us and that means it's time to make sure that you and your home are prepared. Use these tips to help you prepare: Clear your roof gutters of debris and consider installing metal gutter guards to prevent debris from building up again.... Keep lawns and gardens trimmed and well-maintained. Trim any trees or shrubs so they aren't touching your house or overhanging the roof and gutters. Install hoses that are long enough to reach all the way around your house. Check your homes external walls and repair any gaps. Check that your emergency kit is stocked and everyone in the family knows where it is, in case you need to leave quickly. . . @michaelheld via unsplash See more

24.01.2022 *** SCAM ALERT *** There has been a recent increase in the number and type of phishing scams sent via text message. These include banking scams, like the one shown below, but others include insurance and superannuation scams.... The thing they all have in common is the request for personal or financial information to be submitted via a link in the text. You can protect yourself by: Not clicking on ANY links contained within texts Delete texts that ask for any personal or financial information Hang up on callers asking for this type of information

24.01.2022 It's National Road Safety Week; the perfect time to remind you: Stay off the mobile phone while driving. Let's all get where we're going, safely!

22.01.2022 If your phone is stolen it's not just annoying; it can lead to home break-ins or even identity theft if your personal information is accessed. . To prevent this, make sure you have remote wipe capabilities set up for your phone so you can erase everything on it. . Keep your personal information safe.

21.01.2022 Leading Senior Constable Joe Clarke for @victoriapolice delivered a brilliant presentation at the Neighbourhood Watch International Conference, on how Junior Neighbourhood Watch works in the Mildura region. After hearing Joe’s presentation no one was in any doubt of the success of the program or the engagement with the children in grades 5 and 6 who are involved with the program. #vicpol #mildura

20.01.2022 Winter's here. That means it's a great time to do a quick safety check around the house. One of the top five causes of home fires is electrical equipment. We're talking overloaded power points and faulty appliances. Follow these tips and keep your home and family safe:... One appliance per power point and switch off when not in use. Use power boards wisely to prevent electrical overload - no double adapters under any circumstances. Check power cords for fraying and don't use any appliance that has a damaged cord. Be aware. Stay safe.

20.01.2022 Many break-ins are via forced entry through the attached garage. Once inside, thieves have direct access to your home. You can prevent this with the following tips: Install a solid, exterior grade door between your home's interior and the garage.... Install a deadbolt on that door and keep it locked. Keep your garage door remote with you. Do not store it in your car. Always keep your car locked, even when it's parked in the garage. Make sure the garage door and motor are regularly serviced to keep them in tip-top working order. Brandi Ibrao via Unsplash See less

18.01.2022 Car theft is most often a crime of opportunity so let's not give the criminals a free pass: Lock up every time you leave the car, even when you're at home. Don't leave valuables on show. Store them out of sight or take them with you. Never leave your garage remote in the car. If the car's stolen you're offering easy access to the inside of your house as well.... Close and lock the garage door too! Be smart. Stay safe. . . . . @bbh_singapore via Unsplash

18.01.2022 More choice, no lines and delivery right to the front door - it's no wonder so many of us are heading online to tick 'Christmas shopping' off the list this year. Here are a few tips to keep your financial & personal information safe and secure while you shop: Shop with names you know and trust. Most brick & mortar retailers have an online presence and sites like Amazon stock just about everything so. there's plenty of choices.... If you're receiving emails about online sales, check the web address of the site you're being sent to. It could look like a brand you know but if it ends with anything other than a .com or .com.au you could be shopping from a scam website. Look out for misspellings of trusted brand name websites for the same reason. Sales on these sites look legitimate but you could be unwittingly giving our your personal and financial details. Always shop only with sites that begin with HTTPS, as opposed to HTTP. The 'S' means the site has encryption installed and will protect your credit card and other information. Shopping online is safe and easy as long as you know what to look for

13.01.2022 Good Neighbourhood ABC's - H is for Helping Hand Great neighbourhoods become that way because the people who live there look out for each other: Mow your neighbour's front lawn when you're doing your own.... Call a neighbour who's doing lockdown alone and check in on them. When you're going to the grocery store, see if there's anything you can pick up for your neighbour. Smile and wave hello whenever you see someone from your neighbourhood. Every little thing helps someone

07.01.2022 Good Neighbourhood ABC's - P is for Pedestrian Keeping the roads in our neighbourhood safe is everyone's responsibility. Whether you're a pedestrian or a driver, what you do when you're on the road matters.... Tips for pedestrians: Stay off your phone and look around you when you're crossing the street. Use the zebra crossing or cross at the lights where possible. If none of those is available, at least find a place to cross that doesn't require you to step out from behind a parked vehicle. When walking along the road, make sure you're on the right-hand side of the street so you can see oncoming traffic. Tips for drivers: Slow down around schools, crossings and any areas where you expect pedestrians. Drive extra carefully at dusk, after dark or during bad weather, when pedestrians will be more difficult to see. Always give way to pedestrians, no matter if they're on a crossing or not. The neighbourhood you want starts at YOUR front door. @davegoudreau via Unsplash

Survey results showed: - NHWQ members reported higher levels of collective efficacy. - Were twice as likely to report that they would respond to problems in the community such as drug use, public drinking, graffiti, young people getting into trouble and traffic issues by calling authorities... or talking to neighbours. - 75% reported they feel safer in their community because they are connected with their NHW group. #collectiveefficacy #reporting #nhwq #qps #nhwa #uq #uniofqld #reneezahnow See more

07.01.2022 The smallest clue can sometimes help solve a case to remove a child from harm or find an offender. **Trigger Warning: contains content that may be distressing to some people.** The @AusFedPolice and @ACCCEaus need your help to identify objects that have been taken from the background of child sexual abuse materials.... You could help remove a child from harm by identifying an object or location through the @Europol originating #TraceAnObject initiative. More eyes will provide more leads and help #StopChildAbuse. 06.01.2022 Good Neighbourhood ABC's - O is for Others Are you the kind of neighbour you would want? . Many of us were taught as children to treat others as we would like to be treated and nowhere is this truer than in the complex relationships one finds within a neighbourhood.... It all starts with us: Keep loud music, power tools and barking dogs to a minimum. Keep clear of the neighbour's driveway when parking on the street. Get rid of rubbish from around your yard and house. Take out the bins or bring them back in for the neighbours once in a while. Wave and say hello when you see each other outside.
