MAKE YOUR CONTENT RELEVANT Actually read the job advert and customize your application to provide only relevant information to that job. Example - if you are applying for an Admin Role but you have done a course in Personal Training - REMOVE the PT course. It may imply you don’t really know what you want to do with your career. RESUME QUALITY Your Microsoft Word program has templates that stand out and look professional! The hard work is done already. Transfer your info over and sell yourself!! Plus .... make sure you PDF your final resume as when reading a resume in Word it becomes distorted and layouts move and it looks unprofessional. SHORT & SWEET A resume shouldn’t contain your work life history or even how you spend your spare time. Make every word you put on your resume count. If is doesn’t apply to the job then take it out. Ideally limit to 2 pages. QUESTIONS If there are questions on the online application you want to be answering them ALL to be favorable. Often when there are 300+ applicants the need to shortlist can first occur via these questions. A simple X can be the difference between being shortlisted and not. The employer is getting a snapshot of whether you meet their initial criteria. Make the best first impression. REVIEW YOUR RESUME OR APPROACH If you aren’t getting any shortlists or interviews you may need to consider whether your resume is selling your skills and experience well enough or whether you are applying for the right kind of work? Review your direction and approach to job hunting and ask people around you for their feedback. Now is not the time for changing career paths.
