22.01.2022 Jessica my assistant has put together some footage of my solo walk on Island Lagoon in South Australia in May 2018. I learnt to use the GoPro prior to leaving and with fingers crossed, I hoped it would turn out okay! https://youtu.be/KMGmC-rNqYc
21.01.2022 Last Friday I was proud to be part of a panel at the inaugural Margaret Egan Young Writers Award. It has been many years since I have been in my childhood suburb of Broadmeadows and it was wonderful to meet such fantastic people. Broadmeadows-born author and lecturer Caroline van de Pol has partnered with Council and Writers Victoria to offer the Margaret Egan Young Writers Award. Ms van de Pol, who is funding and administering the prize, said she had the benefit of great su...pport in teachers, university lecturers and career mentors throughout her life. I am hoping I can help others to dream big, as well as offering the support and encouragement they need to help their dreams become a reality, Ms van de Pol said. The award is named in memory of my late sister Margaret, who lived with schizophrenia, Margaret had a passion for writing and would use it to help her during difficult periods. Entries open 9.00am on Thursday 1 November 2018 and close 5.00pm on Saturday 15 December 2018. Late entries will not be accepted and only one entry per person is permitted. Judging will take place in January and February 2019. The winner(s) will be announced on 7 April 2019 at the Broadmeadows Street Festival. 15.01.2022 I thoroughly enjoyed my involvement as Australia Day Ambassador in the South West community of Campbelltown. The council provided such wonderful hospitality to both Heather and myself. It is always a privilege to present the community awards to the various people and to welcome 80 new Australian citizens. Thank you to all who have voted for 2018 Impact 25 Awards. https://lnkd.in/gfm7S5m Voting closes this Thursday 31st January 5pm.

13.01.2022 Sutherland Shire libraries are branching out with inclusive book groups, to support the community with a love of reading. Ability Links NSW, a disability support program, rewarded the 'Great Expectations' grant of $7500 to Sutherland Shire Libraries to help make them more inclusive. Other initiatives that will benefit from the grants will be the new 'Sensitive Storytimes' and 'Calm Corner' at Engadine Library, designed to reduce sensory input for young children with autism. I...t was my pleasure to be involved in such a positive, inclusive community initiative. This grant will help children and adult with disabilities who are often overlooked. I hope other community libraries will be motivated to seek similar funding to support their own communities.
