25.01.2022 This is a significant shift.

24.01.2022 Facebook introduces Facebook Shops, which enables businesses to set up a single online store for customers to access on both Facebook and Instagram.

24.01.2022 Instagram adds new anti-bullying features, including tag controls, comment management tools

24.01.2022 Some interesting information about the state of Remote Work in 2019. I'd be curious to see how Australia compares.

24.01.2022 This is a big win for the world of .ORG !

23.01.2022 Google shonkiness

21.01.2022 I learned to touchtype double spaces on a typewriter, but forced myself out of the habit years ago. Typewriter letters each took the same width, whereas computer font widths are proportional and there is automatically extra space after a period anyway.

20.01.2022 It's called a filter bubble. It's why we should do our darndest to try to resist the algorithms the social media platforms persist in pushing onto us. They warp reality and breed closed thinking. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Filter_bubble

20.01.2022 This is a very interesting development. The EU have had the right to be forgotten since 2014.

20.01.2022 Oh dear... just been served this enticing (not) ad on Facebook. (Clearly I've done a masterful job at hiding my actual interests so now they're serving up.. this .) I respectfully suggest that "No Hassle" really means "No Service" and "Much Hassle", once they've taken your money and bolted. This type of stuff drives me crazy. It devalues the industry and the expertise that real web professionals offer, and makes people who don't understand what is required believe they can ...get something for nothing. It is literally #FakeNews. There is NO way that anybody can deliver all of this for $99, from any country, in a way that will genuinely help somebody's business. #YouGetWhatYouPayFor #SmallBusiness #SupportSmallBusiness #SupportLocal

19.01.2022 La Trobe University is offering support to businesses and individuals facing the challenges of COVID-19 through a free online leadership development program delivered by the highly regarded La Trobe MBA.

18.01.2022 No more seeing everyone else's numbers

18.01.2022 This is an interesting development. Amazon is implementing a one year moratorium on police use of facial recognition technology. "Weve advocated that governments should put in place stronger regulations to govern the ethical use of facial recognition technology" #facialrecognition #privacy #privacymatters #ethical #ethicsmatter

17.01.2022 "The problem with artificial intelligence is that it's artificial. The problem with the intelligence of humans is that it's limited, variable and compromised by judgement and values. Put both together and you get a good understanding of how and why the Federal Government muddled its way into, and out of, the expensive, stressful "Robodebt" debacle."

17.01.2022 Surveillance capitalism describes a market-driven process where the commodity for sale is your personal data, and the capture and production of this data relies on mass surveillance of the internet.

15.01.2022 This has pretty much been my experience

15.01.2022 #Facebook is a classic example of "Just because you CAN, doesn't necessarily mean you SHOULD" in technology. Technology should be created to assist, improve or enhance the lives of people, with appropriate consideration for the consequences of it's implementation, both positive and negative. Too often, technology is created for the sake of doing it, to make money, to be first, because somebody else is doing it, or because somebody with influence decided it was a good idea at... the time, with little regard for people or consequence. Today we are witnessing some of the results of these decisions. #technology #peopleandculture #ethicalleadership #ethicsmatter

15.01.2022 "Billion-dollar digital companies such as Facebook make their money by hijacking the release of dopamine in our brains, abusing our human need for approval, and in the words of Facebooks founding president Sean Parker consum[ing] as much of [our] time and conscious attention as possible. "

14.01.2022 This guy knows the deal. Social media is a massive manipulation engine.

14.01.2022 Some great tips for freelancers here. "You should get really comfortable with no; Both saying no to bad fits, and hearing no from clients who cant afford you."

14.01.2022 For anybody who has watched "The Social Dilemma" on Netflix this week, this post drills down a bit further into the issues around the influence of social media and AI-driven algorithms on our society, by one of the people in the show. TLDR; 1. Very smart people invented very smart technology which is now ruining social cohesion.... 2. Something should be done. 3. The highly successful business model means nothing will change unless they are forced to. https://medium.com//the-mechanics-and-psychology-behind-th

11.01.2022 The latest online idiocy - 'brushing'. If you receive something in the mail you didn't order - like seeds or a pen - it's likely you are the victim of a data breach, and your details are being used to generate fake reviews of online products.

11.01.2022 The real great hack isnt Cambridges ill-gotten data or Facebooks failure to protect it. Its the entire business model of Silicon Valley, which has incentivized the use of personal data to manipulate human behavior on a massive scale https://www.vice.com//netflixs-the-great-hack-misses-the-b

10.01.2022 "A.I. is only as good as the data it's given--meaning the highest-skilled workers in the future will be the ones who can identify "what is right and what is wrong and where biases are." " https://www.inc.com/c/mark-cuban-ai-soft-skills-coding.html

10.01.2022 Or just turn tracking off altogether

08.01.2022 The tech field failed a 25-year challenge to achieve gender equality by 2020 culture change is key to getting on track

06.01.2022 I've worked with a "Rick"

05.01.2022 Most influencers make bugger all - yet 29% of children aged 8 to 12 want to be one.

04.01.2022 Had such a great time being involved in the 2019 JoomlaDay Australia conference! #JoomlaDayAu is 100% volunteer-run, and it was a fantastic experience. Onwards and upwards for 2020! (in Melbourne, but shhh, that's not officially announced yet ) #JoomlaAu #joomla

04.01.2022 Interesting outline of the phases of media coverage. Impact and response are the first two phases, and the third is accountability, i.e. the blame game. When an issue is close to home, local media are often slower to get to accountability than media further away, because the people who are directly impacted, and who they are directly communicating with, may still be focussed on the first two phases.

03.01.2022 Bleak, indeed :( https://www.visualcapitalist.com/the-covid-19-impact-on-ad/ #covid19 #media #advertising #advertisingspend

02.01.2022 Very good advice

02.01.2022 One of the reasons I chose a humanities degree even though I've worked in tech for decades. "Technology has grown from some devices and platforms we use to an entire environment in which we function"

02.01.2022 Since the Cambridge Analytica scandal, actions on Facebook such as likes, shares and posts have dropped by almost 20%

02.01.2022 This government has a terrible habit of imposing sledgehammer "mandatory" with clearly little thought of consequence.

02.01.2022 We can confirm this "like removal" process has occurred for us here in Australia (only mobile app view so far, desktop browser still displays regular likes). Some screenshots posted below showing what now can/can't be seen.

02.01.2022 "They had taken control of the media industry, then moved fast and broken it; now they claimed no responsibility for fixing it."

02.01.2022 My personal favourite is "exposure" https://99u.adobe.com//watch-out-for-these-phrases-designe which always reminds me of The Oatmeal https://theoatmeal.com/comics/exposure
