06.01.2022 This years NAIDOC Week theme is "Voice. Treaty. Truth. Lets Work Together For a Shared Future". In the spirit of this theme we commissioned an Aboriginal artist to work with the team to create imagery that respects the Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander histories and culture. The piece (attached) by Brian Blatchford entitled "Ngalak Koorlangka Kaadadjiny - Our Children Learning" represents unity within our services between the Indigenous people of Australia and our fellow ...Australians. The circle patterns in this design represents our Nido Services as bird nests. Each nest is made up of different elements to show the diverse range of children and staff who make up the Nido Community. The nests connect with pathways to show they work together as one and are decorated with native Eucalypt leaves and Geraldton Wax flowers from Perth Western Australia where Nido Early School was founded. 06.01.2022 Australians spend over $600 million on bottled water every year. Did you know that by carrying a reusable water bottle in your bag, you will be able to fill it with tap water from taps at work, school or from one of the 3,500 public drinking fountains in South East Queensland rather than purchasing a new single-use plastic bottle? This week thanks to Queensland Urban Utilities we have invited our families to take a water bottle and remember to Turn to Tap to create a better future for the environment, our health and our hip pocket!

03.01.2022 Today our Kinder children visited the Queensland Museum to explore the remarkable achievements in human space flights and all the amazing discoveries in space through the Nasa - A Human Adventure exhibition. The children explored the exhibition, communicating together about their prior knowledge of the space ships, rockets, astronauts and the planets in the solar system from their ongoing space project work. The children came face to face with their current project knowledge and it could be heard through the childrens voices. The children were respectful and used their eyes to look and listen to the audio clips, learning new information about space travel and artefacts which have been collected and researched over many years from past until present day.

02.01.2022 At Nido Early School Woolloongabba we take great pride in promoting a healthy, active, physical lifestyle for our children, their families and our educators. A very important part of staying healthy is remembering to take good care of our skin. Since 1999, the National SunSmart Program has been recognising Queensland primary schools, OSHC (Outside School Hours Care) and early childhood services who are leaders in helping to reduce the risk of skin cancer. Childhood sun exposu...re is an important contributing risk factor in the development of skin cancer later in life. Teaching sun safety practices to children throughout their learning years helps to shape healthy long term habits. Dont forget to minimise your skin cancer risk by protecting your skin with a combination of these five steps each and every day- 1. SLIP on sun protective clothing that covers as much as your body as possible. 2. SLOP on SPF30 or higher broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen, at least 20 minutes before sun exposure and dont forget to reapply every two hours when outdoors or more often when perspiring or swimming. 3. SLAP on a broad-brimmed hat that shades your face, neck and ears. 4. SEEK shade. 5. SLIDE on sunglasses.
