25.01.2022 A snap shot of our Kinder Program

25.01.2022 Recently Nido Montrose had a special visit from 3 police officers who spent time with our kinder children. During a fabulous information session, they talked about the different tasks they perform and how they are there to protect our community. During the question and answer time, the children were reminded of what to do and who to go to or call if they are feeling unsafe. This was also a great opportunity to help the children to understand why there is a noticeable increase in police presence out and about lately due to the current climate. At the end of the session we visited the police car outside and some even had a turn using the siren - thankfully our neighbours are still friends with us! Thank you for spending the afternoon with us and for all the work that you and police officers do.

25.01.2022 Bread Tags for Wheelchairs. Thank you to all of our families, friends and the local community for collecting bread tags for such a worthy cause. I am so pleased to announce that Nido Montrose collected 8.214 kgs!!!!!!!!

23.01.2022 An official Bushfire Disaster Appeal has been set up in response to the overwhelming request from our generous community who are wanting to make donations. Expe...rience tells us that donation of money is much more effective and provides more flexibility than the donation of material items or pre-loved goods. If you would like to donate to the Bushfire Disaster Appeal you can do so here: http://emergency.vic.gov.au/relief/#donations

22.01.2022 Although we couldn’t get together for morning tea this year, it was nice to treat the Mums with some blueberry muffins. We hope all of our special Mums have a wonderful day tomorrow

18.01.2022 The Nido Community wanted to thank the firefighters for their amazing contribution for the their work in saving lives, houses, people and animals in the country. This idea was received with enthusiasm and excitement and a sign was being made by all the children in the centre, putting their mark of thanks on the sign for the fire fighters. With calico fabric, pens and paints, the children made the sign beginning with the most important words. 'Thank you fire fighters'. The s...ign was distributed to all the rooms for the children to contribute to the sign with their individual messages. The sign was displayed on our fence for 2 days for all the local firefighters and the public to see in the Montrose community. It was presented today to one of our firefighting parents, Dave Evered, to be shared between his station at the Basin CFA and Montrose CFA. Thank you to all the firefighters and emergency services from all of us at Nido Montrose.

18.01.2022 With Anzac Day coming up on Saturday 25th April we will be sharing a number of Posts of locals who have served. Today we will start with the history of our War ...Memorial. War Memorial In 1921, a marble monument was erected on the corner of Leith Road and Main Roads (Mt Dandenong Tourist Road) by Montrose residents. By the 1930s the monument had been moved out into the Centre of Leith Road where the roundabout is now. With the widening of the road and the construction of the roundabout in the early 1970s, the monument was moved to the Montrose Recreational Reserve beside the tennis courts. In 1976, the Montrose Apex Club rescued the fallen and dilapidated monument and placed it further up on the old oval and planted a rose garden around it, right next to where the children’s playground is now. In 2000, the monument was finally relocated to its present site, where it is in a more prominent position and central to the town.

17.01.2022 Today our children and educators reflected on Remembrance Day. We are most thankful for our fallen soldiers’ ultimate sacrifice, today and always. Lest We Forget.

17.01.2022 A good reminder to all Mum’s and Dad’s especially at this time of the year

17.01.2022 Hi Nido Montrose families. Due a tree falling over the power lines nearby we are currently having issues with our electricity and communications. We have been told it should be fixed by 3pm so you might have trouble contacting us. In the meantime all of the children are still enjoying their day and currently having a yummy lunch and it’s business as usual Thank you

17.01.2022 Our wonderful chef Sue is a popular part of our team and has lots of little fans - not only because her cooking tastes so good! This week Sue has been spending time with the children helping them to make shortbread biscuits which they will also be decorating.

16.01.2022 ***IMPORTANT COMMUNITY MESSAGE *** As of 1am Monday 16th December 2019 CFA Fire Restrictions will be in force.

16.01.2022 Some of our children will be joining in this event at the centre, we would love it if our friends that are currently at home also join in.

15.01.2022 On Friday 10 January to Saturday 11 January 2020, Victoria will see elevated fire risk as conditions worsen. Be prepared, monitor conditions on www.emergency.vic.gov.au and on the VicEmergency app. Remember to heed all advice from emergency services. Stay safe.

15.01.2022 With the introduction of the new stage 4 restrictions across Victoria, a large number of our enrolled children do not currently have access to early education. Our Nido Montrose team of educators have been busily preparing the onsite and at home curriculum which all of our children will have access to regardless of whether they are at home or attending care. Part of the daily program will include live learning incorporating daily story time and children's room meetings as well as experiences that parents can support their children with at home. There is also a program for our kinder aged children to help them prepare for school next year. If you would like any further information about the at home learning program accessing the live events please call us at the centre.

14.01.2022 Nutrition Week 15-21 October

13.01.2022 Congratulations to our Kinders who graduated last night. We had a wonderful celebration starting off with the children circled around the mandala they created and citing their own Acknowledgement of Country. The teachers, educators and families then shared special memories of their time at Nido Montrose and the friends they have made whilst seated in our larger than usual sharing circle. The event ended off with a lovely spread put on by our wonderful cook. There were a few tears and lots of laughs. Thank you to all who shared this special moment with us and to the children and educators who made it happen. Good luck class of 2019!!!

However, not all chil...dren are looking forward to returning and may feel some anxiety as they count down the days. Check out our video with Dr Anthea Rhodes as she highlights some common concerns parents and children have, and how you can support your child in the lead up to the big day. For further information about COVID-19 please see the DHHS website here: t.ly/TFC5

07.01.2022 Holistic intentional teaching-literacy and language. The children in the Toddler 2 room have continued to show interest in literacy and the power of storytelling. The story Where the wild things are by Maurice Sendak, which describes the adventures of a lad full of imagination, became very popular with the group. We took this opportunity with the children’s help, to link both our atelier and literacy by creating our very own Where the wild things are mini world using recycled materials and paper mache. A wonderful hands on storytelling experience. A shout out to Kaylah one our our Toddler 2 educators for bringing this learning to life ..

03.01.2022 For Rememberance Day this year, our Kinder children have been discussing the significance of the date and what the poppy represents. Together they made their own poppies to create a wreath which was laid today at the memorial in Montrose Town Park

03.01.2022 As we prepare for Reconciliation Week, and celebrate Sorry Day, our Kinder children have been busy sewing dolls to show greater representation of diversity in their imaginative play. Prior to sewing the children had the story Finding Our Heart by Thomas Mayor, which tells the story of the Uluru statement and talks about the heart of Australia being in its people, and listening to each other. With this the children decided that the dolls needed hearts of their own, and a fel...t heart was put in each. Over the coming week the children will work on adding facial features and sewing clothes for the dolls, all of which will reflect our discussion around the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture. As a centre we love offering children the opportunity to use real life tools and machinery, and teaching them real life skills, such as sewing. Additionally, it allows for great conversations and connections to be made between educators and children, and we can see them making connections between the experience and their learning.

01.01.2022 Montrose, Holy Fools needs our help. For those of you who are unaware of this charity, Holy Fools provide outreach and support to people in the Yarra Valley exp...eriencing homelessness or at-risk of homelessness. They’re pantry is running low and because of restrictions, it’s been difficult to accept donations. That’s where we, as a community, can help! They’re administration office is located here, at 5 Currowong Road - and this MONDAY and FRIDAY from 10am - 5pm, you can drop off a bag or two of non-perishable food. They’re looking for: Tin food with pull handles, pasta, pasta sauce, biscuits, long life milk - essentially anything you would also have in your pantry. So the next time you head to the local IGA or shops, grab some food for Holy Fools. Better yet, reach out to your neighbours and help arrange a neighbourhood collection. If we all do a little, it helps a whole lot. See more
