18.01.2022 All the staff at Nies Health Centre would like to thank everyone for their patience over the last few and coming weeks, with many changes occurring. In the last few weeks we have welcomed Dr Andrew Chan and Dr Charmian King to our practice, as well as their patients. Due to the influx of patients transferring from Dr Chan and Dr King's old practice we are unable to accept any new patients to the clinic.... We have also had alterations to the hours the clinic is open, and what days and times each of our doctors are available. For any questions, please feel free to give as a call during the new Clinic Hours.
16.01.2022 Nies Health Centre will now be offering appointments also on Friday afternoons. Dr King will be extending her hours on Tuesday and Thursday. Please note Dr Andrea Nies will be away as of the 25 September for 2 weeks but her patients can see by Dr Chan or Dr King for appointments. Pleas note also Dr Chan and Dr King only bulk bill pensioners or children under 16 years of age We also welcome Taryn Haughton as our new medical receptionist - on Tuesdays and Fridays
14.01.2022 Dr Nies is off to a confrence tomorrow, and will not be back at work until Monday 20th November, during this time Dr Chan and Dr King will still be in the surgery and opening hours will remain the same. 11.01.2022 Is it too late to have the flu shot??? If you have not noticed, not only has the weather been very cold, but flu season has definitely hit Bendigo very Hard! Even some nursing homes are "Shut Down" to visitors. But it isn't too late to have the flu shot if you haven't already had it. Especially if you have a history of heart disease, asthma, emphysema, going overseas or do not want to miss work?, previous cancer, or over 65 years of age.... It takes 2 weeks for the flu shot to work, however the flu season does not end until October!!! Feel free to ring our friendly staff or talk to your doctor next time you are in.
10.01.2022 Spring is just around the corner. People tend to leave till the last moment Hay fever and spring asthma issues until they are suffering badly. However, August is a good time to see your doctor to get preventative advice and an asthma review to stop the "tissues: and "puffing". Bendigo has one of the worst rates of hay fever and asthma in the country and it is only going to get worse.
07.01.2022 Welcome to the world Charlotte Poppy Salau. Born 6th July at 5.52am. Weighing 7 pounds. Charlene and Bub doing well
07.01.2022 We would like to welcome our newest receptionist, Liz, who starts today :)
06.01.2022 This week we said goodbye to our Practice Nurse Caitlyn. It was sad to see her leave but wish her the best in her next adventure whatever that may be. In the short time that she was here she did an amazing job, especially as she was thrown in at the deep end to begin with. Her help at reception will be missed, Rhonda in particular will miss the coffee deliveries
05.01.2022 Has the acronym "NDIS" Got you confused? You are not alone, however I have good news, I attended a seminar about it today and got my head around it a little better! If you aren't sure what the NDIS rollout means for you, call up during business hours and I will explain it a little better for you :-) - Patrick.
05.01.2022 It is that time of the year again where people suffer hay fever and asthma due to Spring. We have also been very busy with lots of people suffering the flu but thankfully this is all over. A recent journal article is in the conversation, a well known evidence based website says too many people are using Ventolin (salbutamol) frequently. The article concludes that this is alarming, suggesting that there are many people at risk of uncontrolled asthma.... In the next few months with spring being upon us, we will be asking our patients about their asthma and what they use - unfortunately a lot of people are unaware that they should have spirometry (lung function tests) if they suffer from regular and frequent asthma, are better off on a preventative inhaler and also can benefit from an asthma management plan. It was distressing to hear from the Bendigo Advertiser about the increased risk of pregnancy complications due to obesity in women. This is not only a health problem but an economic one. There are a lot of things that can help this issue - counselling, a dietitian and fitness classes as well as medications. If you are obese and concerned please do not feel embarrassed to raise the issue with us, as we are interested to help. We welcome Patrick Taylor as our new practice manager and thank Alan Peacock for his help as he leaves and retires to his love of cars and motorbikes (I am of course envious). Dr Teddy Chan
04.01.2022 Hope everybody stays safe over the weekend, looking out the window looks like it may get a bit wet, our tip for the weekend - if its flooded - forget it :)
03.01.2022 About Dr Chan and Dr King Dr Teddy Chan and Dr Charmaine King have come over from Quarry Hill to help ease the work load for Andrea. Teddy and Charmaine are a husband/ wife team who have been working as a team in Bendigo since the 1990's and both graduated from Monash university.... Dr Chan will be working Monday-Friday, and Dr King on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Unfortunately we will no longer be able to offer a Late Clinic on a Thursday Night, for more information about clinic open hours, please see the photo at the Top of the Nies Health Centre Facebook page. A Tip from Dr Chan: The Secret to Fried Rice: Fried rice needs sesame seed oil and spring onions to be genuine. Stir Fried rice in small batched with a long pair of large chopsticks to get an even flavor.
