20.02.2022 The Southern Right whale can be found in subtropical and waters of the Southern Hemisphere. They are quite curious and playful when they are close to humans and are one of the largest species of whale. Whales are some of the ocean's most fruitful gardeners. When whales poop, they drop a load of crucial nutrients into the 'topsoil' of the ocean. Their poop fertilizes the surface of the ocean with nutrients that are fundamental to the health of ocean ecosystems, the global nut...rient cycle, and the carbon cycle. Southern right whale females have their first calf at 6 or 7 years of age, and they then have one calf every three years. They are slow breeders, which is why we know populations take a long time to recover from impacts, like the whaling of the 1800s. Female southern right whales usually come back to the very same coastal embayment to raise each calf, often the bay where they themselves were bornbut occasionally, they swap calving areas. For the Australian population, the swap is usually between locations on the Australian coast, but sometimes even between Australia and New Zealand! After giving birth, mothers stay in the same coastal bay for several months, surviving on their thick blubber layers, and nursing their calf, allowing it time to grow and become strong enough for a migration south to feeding grounds in the Southern Ocean calves are weaned by the time of the return migration it is rare to see a mother accompanied by a year old offspring on winter breeding grounds. Southern right whales migrate into the Southern Ocean in summer, and sometimes they go as far as 60 degrees south, even in amongst the pack ice whales without calves can travel thousands of kilometres along the Australian coast in a single winter season for example all the way from Hobart in Tasmania to Albany in Western Australia. . . . . . #nikitaboothphotography #australiassouthwest #thisiswa #ocean #oceanphotography #natgeo #natgeoau #earthcapture #whales #whalesnation #wildlife #nature @oceansnation @whalesnation @natgeo @bbcearth @westernaustralia @abcaustralia @channel7 @seenwesternaustralia @sealegacy @natgeoau @oceanographic_mag @ocean_photography_awards

21.01.2022 "We do not see nature with our eyes, but with our understandings and our hearts." As with other native organisms, birds help maintain sustainable population levels of their prey and predator species and, after death, provide food for scavengers and decomposers. Many birds are important in plant reproduction through their services as pollinators or seed dispersers. As pollinators, bees play a part in every aspect of the ecosystem.... https://nikitaboothphotography.com//the-birds-and-the-bees/
19.01.2022 A peaceful afternoon spent filming the new calves. It's incredible to watch, you can tell that cows are celebrating when other cows come to protect the mother and her newborn baby cow. All of the grownup cows will keep the newborn baby safe and warm. https://nikitaboothphotography.com/2021/02/01/new-calves/

17.01.2022 Exploring the magnificent coastline stopping at Redgate Beach and Sugarloaf Rock. Redgate is a beautiful sandy beach nestled between rocky outcrops and renowned for its surf. It is the location of a local legend - The Georgette shipwreck, which sank in 1876 near Calgardup Beach, Redgate. Rising dramatically out of the ocean to a height of over 50 meters, Sugarloaf Rock is a beautiful sight and a perfect location for birdwatching and wildflower spotting.... ........................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................ #nikitaboothphotography #margaretriverregion #westernaustralia #australia #nature #natgeo #natgeoau #wildlife #wildernessculture #bbc #wanderoutyonder #thisiswa #explore #AdventureAwaits #seeaustralia #visualart #ourplanetdaily #planetearth #art #lifeisbeautiful #fineartphotographer #adventurevisuals #worldvisuals #earthfocus #drone #raw #australiassouthwest See more

02.01.2022 This is a common species found along South West Australia’s rocky shores. The hard shell covering the crabs body is known as a carapace and it is shed regularly, known as moulting, for the crab to grow and this is why the crab has such vibrant colouring too. ............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... #nikitaboothphotography #margaretriverregion #westernaustralia #australia #nature #natgeo #natgeoau #wildlife #wildernessculture #bbc #wanderoutyonder #thisiswa #explore #AdventureAwaits #seeaustralia #visualart #ourplanetdaily #planetearth #art #lifeisbeautiful #fineartphotographer #adventurevisuals #worldvisuals #earthfocus #nikon #raw #australiassouthwest See more
