25.01.2022 A constructive step by the Northern Territory Government in recognising Aboriginal rangers as the front line in caring for country. Importantly rangers will be... supported in what can be quite a complex role in regards to enforcement and compliance by training and appropriate amendments to the relevant legislation We want to work with traditional owners and land managers to preserve and protect land into the future and these new powers will better support Aboriginal ranger programs and conservation activities on Aboriginal land." 24.01.2022 The 7th of September National threatened species day, we raise awareness of the plants and animals at risk of extinction. The day also marks the anniversary of the final day for the last known Tasmanian tiger in Hobart Zoo back in 1936. We remember the wrongs of the past, but also look to the future.... Sadly there are many threatened species in our region. The Northern quoll which used to be common throughout the north is now rare and endangered, largely due to the impact of cane toads but also feral cats and frequent and large fires. This year, Njanjma rangers will be putting a special focus on some of our threatened species. We will be using cultural knowledge and science to find out more about why some populations are hanging on while others have disappeared.

22.01.2022 Keep an eye on Inspired NT for some interesting questions and answers.

13.01.2022 PIG TRAPPING - Figs and pigs. Feral pigs are notoriously hard to trap on floodplains but the Njanjma Rangers from West Arnhem have been working with nature, b...uilding their pig traps under fruiting native fig trees. Trapped sows are being fitted with tracking collars under tranquilisation. Njanjma’s trapping and collaring work has been supported by Territory Natural Resource Management and Justin Perry from CSIRO. The tracking data will help the Rangers understand how groups of animals are using the area, and provide useful feral animal behavior information for other groups managing feral pigs in the West Arnhem and Kakadu region. 11.01.2022 Wow... this really shows how feral cats pack a mighty punch to our wildlife. Great work by the rangers with Tjamu Tjamu Aboriginal Corporation- Kiwirrkurra. If you have a pet cat and want it to have the operation so that it can't produce kittens - Animal Management in Rural and Remote Indigenous Communities may be able to assist.

10.01.2022 A new style of rock art, showcasing bilbies, thylacines and dugongs, has been recorded in Arnhem land - and it's stunning. 03.01.2022 Warddeken Land Management senior ranger and landowner Dean Yibarbuk calls for a greater recognition of indigenous knowledge of fire and land across Australia #savannafireforum #indigenouslandmanagement #culturalburning #firemanagement #landmanagement #caringforcountry #twotoolbox

03.01.2022 Please note the total fire bans for many areas in northern Australia. The hot, dry gusty winds we are experiencing creates severe fire conditions. This means the fires can burn very hot, carry a long way and may burn over several days which can lead to burning very large areas. Such hot and large fires are not helpful to wildlife. We are hoping to keep much of grass cover in the Mikkinj flood plain this year as it is helping with reducing the number of Mimosa seeds from growi...ng. The NAFI web site allows us to track fires at least on a daily basis. https://firenorth.org.au/nafi3/ This is a great tool using satellite imagery. The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) reports severe weather conditions. Here they have captured the strong influence the winds have in moving fire along. https://twitter.com/BOM_NT/status/1303262587828817923 The NAFI web site and the weather information both show case how science based information can help us with managing country

02.01.2022 Warning the following video has images of a deceased Aboriginal person. An indigenous man from central Australia, who is not with us anymore, leaves us with a strong message of connection to country, the country owns us and it is our family. We think this is a beautiful explanation of connection to country.... The sense of oneness and responsibility to country - that’s not science - that is something else. It is the motivation which lies behind anyone’s drive to care for country. It is the fire which gives us energy to work hard, to go that bit further to make sure we do a good job of it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w0sWIVR1hXw&feature=youtu.be
