24.01.2022 Repeating: This Bookshop will re-open to customers next Monday, 2nd November. Our usual hours (10am to 2 pm) will show daily on this FB Page from next Saturday evening. In the meantime, there are some things we need to get ready before potential customers arrive. We display a huge range of Christian second-hand books at low, low prices; but our inspiring collection of Book Marks are all free! Please "Share" to interested Friends.

24.01.2022 In Ancient Greece there was some thought that living things were somehow composed of 4 differing elements: earth, air, fire, and water. Perhaps this thinking went east with Alexander; even farther through ancient Persia; and beyond. In Burma (Myanmar), in 2011, after I had spoken to a house meeting about everyday evidences for design in Creation, a Christian Pastor asked me, "Is it true that humans are made of earth, air, fire and water?" Through my interpreter I tried to help him with his quandary. After returning home I developed a power-point with many of this sequence of frames:

23.01.2022 All of the books shown in this post are among our most recent acquisitions. You could reserve one or more for mailing or personal browsing in-store, or make any other enquiry, by sending a message back to this FB Page.

22.01.2022 Somehow, this morning, I cannot edit this FB Page's Info; but we wish to emphasise that our Bookshop will be OPEN DAILY, Monday to Saturday, within our usual times 10 am - 2 pm. If you would like to come and browse any of our pre-loved Christian book stock you will be most welcome.

22.01.2022 Pencil the date in your diary, or put a red blob at the date in your smart phone...... In about 3 weeks time we MIGHT be back to being open 2 days per week (Thursdays & Fridays) offering pre-loved Christian books in all categories. By then you'll surely have read through all the books on your home shelves at least twice and you'll be desperate for new titles - meaning titles that you have not read previously. Mark the date and be ready to come browsing.......

21.01.2022 When your Friend is ready for objective information that will help them to understand that the Bible's history is accurate you can point towards facts from archaeology and from repeatable, descriptive science. Our Bookshop can help with both of these branches of apologetics.

20.01.2022 When you have someone ask, "Just what is the Bible all about?", you might say, "It is a fantastic history book!" Or, "It's full of the most wonderful stories.... Some are romantic. Some are blood-thirsty. Some are great for moral education." Or you might say, The Bible includes some of the most excellent gems of wisdom, good precepts to live by." If your friend is serious about looking into the content of the Bible, it would be good to recommend one of the introductory handbooks. There are some very good ones available......

20.01.2022 This is the 3rd of 3 Episodes that highlight the significance of Easter, including a few unusual perspectives. If you're just catching up with us after a while and you missed the first 2 Episodes you can find them below as earlier posts. (However, this post is self-contained and can be shared as a separate entity.)

17.01.2022 Yes, well, sales have been right down; but they have not entirely stopped. And we keep getting the occasional phone call or message via Facebook. Not even the supply of new pre-loved books has stopped entirely. Yes, activities have varied from the usual for our re-cycling Bookshop and its Staff; but we are still here and eager for increased action. Shall we be able to announce it soon??

17.01.2022 This post presents Part 3 of our 3-part teaching sequence entitled "China's First God", based on some really fascinating archaeology. For those who need to catch up with Parts 1 & 2, please find them below. Please also consider "Sharing" this post to your FB Friends as this can extend the readership enormously. As far as Bookshop activity is concerned, we hope and pray that this weekend will have announcements that can allow us more flexibility.

16.01.2022 It is wonderful to be able to inform our supporters and customers that we now have many "new" titles and supplies of older pre-loved books that have come into our book stock. Browsing our shelves in person, &/or enquiring by telephone or FB are still the best ways to find out whether we actually have what you need. You might not find the exact title; but you are certain to find at least a few titles with similar content - at low prices too!

16.01.2022 Now we should like to present Part 2 of the 3-part series that explains the fascinating and profound ramifications of the archeological find referred to as "oracle bones".

16.01.2022 Repeating an enquiry on behalf of a Customer: Does any FB Friend have copies of David Wilkerson's "America's Last Call" and "Hallowed Be Thy Names" which they may be prepared to release/sell? Please make contact via this Bookshop Page.

15.01.2022 Sorry, no definite news yet about a date for re-opening our Bookshop. But we are looking to the future as we get ready for our Twelfth Annual General Meeting!! ...... In a couple of older books I recently found today's pics that are not in any special order. Enjoy the history, and the inspirational stimuli......

15.01.2022 This is Part 2 (of 3 parts) on the significance of Easter. Part 3 will follow at the end of this week. (Believe it or not: Book distribution continues: A parcel to Ghana; a couple of local sales; a parcel to Tasmania; more local enquiries....)

14.01.2022 The Stage 4 Lockdown for Metropolitan Melbourne has given this writer an opportunity to sort multitudes (!) of papers and files. A careful selection from them of a few pictures and diagrams may give opportunity to prompt readers about their next choice of pre-loved books....... Hmmmm....??

14.01.2022 Often our customers browse before buying. This is good practice because what we can shelve are from stocks given by Friends and Supporters. Occasionally, someone needs a specific volume; we can check quickly (usually!) whether we have that particular one because of the way we sort books as they come in. Hence you may understand that any titles exhibited in these posts have more of an educational or stimulus function. We might only ever have had one (1) in stock. This is why customers ASK when they need to be specific!

14.01.2022 In this post we'll start a new series of three episodes on the meaning of Easter, not nit-picking about the significance of words or their fragments, but: What is the purpose of recognising the historical period and annual remembrance that most Christians and many non-Christians refer to as "Easter"? Read through the slide series for some old and new perspectives. Share with other Friends too if you know they will be interested.

13.01.2022 Our Bookshop's Day for Re-Opening after Melbourne's severe, but mostly successful, lockdown is THIS MONDAY, 2nd November. Lots of wholesome and valuable reading and reference volumes are available for your browsing and purchase at very reasonable prices. Mostly pre-loved. 6 days per week. 10 am to 2 pm.

13.01.2022 Surf the net; investigate the vocab, the history, the science; read a book; get ready to write your own! The days of good and worthwhile literature are not gone yet! (Are they?) We keep getting fascinating and phenomenal titles. More are shown in today's sampling. However, you need to browse for yourself, or send us a message to enquire. We await your call!

13.01.2022 Well, Friends, we've had our First Post- Lockdown-4 Sales !! And a luvverly day it was too! However, one of our longstanding customers, hoping to find a couple of books by David Wilkerson was disappointed. There were neither of these titles in our stock; but maybe one of our FB Friends has copies they could release?? 1. America's Last Call, 2. Hallowed Be Thy Names. If they're available, please let us know.

12.01.2022 We are at a week-end again (in Australia). Time for special relaxation..... recuperation..... re-invigoration. Mental stimulus? Spiritual stocktake? Pursue that reading program? Find out what hard copy literary treasures our Bookshop can supply; and "Share" this post with other Friends who might be eager and excited to make this discovery too. . . . . . .

07.01.2022 There was, relatively, so much interest shown in our Enid Blyton feature that we just had to leave it until it had reached 300 Readers! The post had intrinsic interest; but, when shared, was able to reach many more FB Friends overall. Our thanks to the "Sharer" this time. New deliveries of pre-loved books sure keep us busy, but enable us to pass on great books to our customers......

07.01.2022 And when your friend is curious about how life with God might work out for them, can you give them a few remarks of personal testimony, &/or help them to pray a prayer of commitment with a request for strength and direction? As well as your own life experience, a few stories from others' lives may be useful....... (Visit our Bookshop and check through the Biographies shelves.)

06.01.2022 Quite recently I heard that the Rosetta Stone Monument had originally been set up in 195 BC. So long ago! But why? A little "Googling" found some answers: Its purpose was to honour, in Memphis, a Greek King (Pharaoh) of Egypt - Ptolemy V Epiphanes. Now this Memphis is just south of Cairo, some distance from the Mediterranean Sea where the Rosetta Stone (fragment) was found in a breakwater near Rosetta by a French soldier. [Not just a bunch of historical facts, however.....]

06.01.2022 Our Bookshop has two Rooms where visitors may browse. May we introduce you to our Room 2? This is the "outdoor room" of our Bookshop, in the LHS shipping container.....

06.01.2022 Confirmed at last!! Bookshop re-opening next Monday, 2nd November. Good to "Share" this news with FB Friends!

06.01.2022 Our archaeological source book having been published in 1891, today my wife and I had lunch with part of the story of Henry Rawlinson, who was born in 1810. At the age of 23, he was sent for work to Persia (Iran) and, by age 25 had begun a study of Persian cuneiform inscriptions. At age 40, he described for the Society of Antiquaries the particular adventure illustrated by the first 3 pictures reproduced here.

05.01.2022 Whereas a dozen Friends looked through Parts 1 and 2 of this sequence "Bible For the World", only 2 Friends (to date) managed to do so for Part 3. So here it is again!

05.01.2022 After an introductory statement by a guest writer (Ross Jones), we shall proceed with the 3rd and final part of "The Bible For the World". Bible translation is a 20th Century foreign missions specialisation, but it has its roots early in the history of the Christian Church. By the 15th Century there were more than 30 translations of the Bible and in the next three centuries that number was doubled. But what of the other 7000 languages that exist in the world, including at lea...st 700 in Papua New Guines and 500 in Nigeria? The modern missionary movement changed the entire complexion of Bible translation. No longer was the work delegated to meticulous scholars in monasteries or musty libraries, it was being undertaken by untrained missionaries stationed all over the world who carried out their translation work in thatched roof huts with illiterate informants. The Baptist missionary William Carey is regarded as the first and most prolific of missionary Bible translators; and in the 19th Century translations appeared in nearly 500 more languages. But in the 20th Century, with the introduction of the science of linguistics, translation work became a specialised ministry and missionary translators have felt compelled to provide the Word of God in every language, a goal that is hoped to be fulfilled by 2025. Wycliffe Bible Translators, started in 1934 by W. Cameron Townsend, has made an invaluable contribution to the progress of world evangelism. As 'Uncle Cam' Townsend said, "The greatest missionary is the Bible in the mother tongue." Praise God, computers and specialised programs have speeded up the translation process and the associated task of dictionary making. See more

05.01.2022 IT LOOKS LIKE NOVEMBER !! All being well, we'll be open again on Monday 2nd November! From the number of enquiries we've had in the last few weeks, we are expecting a rush of customers. Choose different days, please (!) It will be wonderful to catch up with customers old and new, whether y'all are young or younger (!, again)..... Plenty of off-street parking.... or come by bike - We're right next to the Carrum-Warburton Trail.

04.01.2022 Let's have another look at the extraordinary significance of the way that Chinese writing characters have been put together. Again we present a 3-part series. This is the 1st of 3 parts, based on 2 particular books, with a few personal photographs as well. [Feel free to share this presentation.]

04.01.2022 Our Bookshop stock has so many interesting and inspirational titles that anyone visiting for a browse is certain to find a book or two (or more) to help them with whatever topic they are considering.... Some of our pre-loved stock is in gift-worthy condition. All of it is excellent educational and recreational material. If you need a specific book, it is well worth asking us to check our stocks, or to make a particular note of your special request.

02.01.2022 Well chaps, it looks like another 2 or 3 weeks before we can expect a rush to 49 Carronvale Road - the location of our Bookshop in two rooms. We are prompted to imagine there will be a rush because of the miniature burst of super enthusiastic encouragement in the responses to our last few postings here. The "Likes", "Shares" & "Comments" have been significantly more numerous than usual! Suggestion: Try re-reading your oldest book(s) or, maybe, start writing your own.
