23.01.2022 Some of you may have already seen that Netflix released a new series ‘Ratched’, focusing on the infamous Nurse Mildred Ratched who featured in the book and film of One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. It has been recommended that people with a lived experience of mental illness view the show with much caution, if at all. This is most particularly directed to those who have experienced older style institutional settings due to the incredibly graphic and drawn out depictions of treatments (such as lobotomies) and other archaic psychiatric practices.

19.01.2022 Next week is BPD Awareness Week! BPD Awareness Week is looking for people with a lived experience of BPD and people who support someone living with BPD to share their stories. "We know that much of the (mostly) historical language contained in research and training concerning people living with BPD is stigmatising, discriminatory and inappropriate. Many people with BPD experience self-stigma which impacts upon the way they (and others) see them. "This year's campaign, 'Flipp...ing the Script: Changing the Narrative on BPD' aims to change the way we think and talk about borderline personality disorder. "It encourages people living with BPD to be mindful of the way they think about themselves, allow others to see their challenges and their celebrations, move towards strengths-based self-talk and to celebrate their strengths. "This is important for our self-worth, helps us to understand our own and others behaviours and lead to sustainable wellness. We want to invest in stories of hope, triumph and recovery. " If you would like to safely share your story, you can find out more here: https://www.bpdawareness.com.au/share/
