25.01.2022 I have been working closely in the studio recently - reviewing , several decades of my work - looking back at more than thirty years of landscape obsessions - moving beyond the large-scale charcoal drawings and returning to painting. These works are a mix of acrylic paintings and small mixed media tiles - plaster, pigments and charcoal. The exhibition will be at Scope Galleries Warrnambool from 18th March - 16th April - still up over Easter - and now extended to 21st April. Check out my website - www.noelastratford.com

17.01.2022 My Artists Statement from the 'Latitude 28 Degrees' Series speaks about the inspiration gained from the site - #LakeEyre. #arnoldstreetgallery.com /stockroom. ' Flying over Lake Eyre in 2011 left me with the memory of a desert landscape inundated by a huge inflow of water brought by rivers flowing inland toward the centre of our great continent. Anticipating the the arrival of the water, the flooding of the inland basin and the departure and evaporation of the floodwaters tha...t inevitably followed, are factors that form the basis for the works in this exhibition. Images of a contrasting world of dry desert and receding pools of water have remained with me long after the event, I remember intricate patterns etched on a dry landscape as it changed from a dry land populated by rolling sand dunes and shimmering saltpans to a huge watery inland sea. Then - as the water retreats, channels formed in the dry red sand and patches of salt reclaim their place in the cycle of boom and bust - of a fertile environment reduced to its usual dry dusty visage.' 01.01.2022 This series of #drawings from 1997 - twenty years ago - focused on the idea of #enclosure; of enclosing land to ensure it is identified, #edges noted and stock restrained within its #boundaries. All drawings are #charcoal on paper. Stone walls built from stone that littered a volcanic #landscape are a feature of the landscape of the #WesternDistrictofVictoria
