23.01.2022 MUSTARD: always a colour I’m naturally drawn to. It was so nice to be able to use it at the Cultivate workshop thanks to @sketchandetchcreative & @katiemarxflowers! It looked right at home in @sandonridge beautiful outdoor area as guests entered the space. Pic by @brownpaperparcel Can’t wait to do it all again, thank you to everyone who’s emailed and added themselves onto the mailing list. So grateful to each and every one of you

22.01.2022 Flicking through incredible linen options from @event_art & @tablearteventhire those colours and textures really pull at my heart strings. We were so spoilt for choice when it came to styling our table scapes for the workshop thanks to these amazing suppliers. @brownpaperparcel Venue @sandonridge

20.01.2022 Last weekend I was lucky enough to hold my 2 day ‘Cultivate’ workshop with 11 incredible women at @sandonridge in the Daylesford region. Not only was it enjoyable connecting with other likeminded creatives, it was truly an amazing experience being able to share everything that I have learned over my years with Nomad. I have believed for quite some time that the purpose of all of our growth is to give. Even with this mindset, I really underestimated how amazing it would feel... to openly share the intricacies of my business and craft. I’m quite literally still on a high. It feels like my heart has had a huge caffeine fix! These women were like sponges, retaining every last drop of what I had to say which was so phenomenal. After this incredible experience I have decided I will 100% be holding more regular workshops and potentially expanding international next year . If anyone is interested in finding out more please head to the link in my bio and put your details down on my email list. Wherever you are in the world, if you are interested, please reach out. This way when I announce anything in the future you will be the first to know. For those who weren’t able to attend based on dates this time. Apologies, hopefully you can make it work next time around. This weekend wouldn’t have been possible without the help of some incredible vendors who I am so grateful for @sketchandetchcreative @katiemarxflowers @brownpaperparcel @shes_a_wildflower @ravenandtherose @flos.botanical.studio @thesmallthingsco @tablearteventhire @event_art @pancho_cafe @ourreligionisyou @ Sandon

16.01.2022 Handing my booked weddings over when I received the cancer diagnosis was a challenge. I am a control freak at the best of times and I truly care about my clients, so needless to say it was a struggle to give them up. There were sleepless nights... This wedding design had been completed already so I needed someone amazing to roll it out for me on the day as I wasn’t able to. I called the talented gals at @ruby_and_james who executed this beautiful wedding alongside some of my... fav suppliers and staff. Look at this end result! thank you endlessly to those who helped with this. 14.01.2022 Today is triple negative breast cancer awareness day! This is a rarer and much more aggressive type of breast cancer that is generally harder to treat due to limited options avail. Reoccurrence rates are much higher and whilst it accounts for only 15% of all breast cancers, it results in 50% of breast cancer deaths!! (A stat that Facebook target marketing showed me randomly one day when I was just casually scrolling ) Truth is, this cancer generally targets younger women. Ev...en many in their 20’s! Women aren’t told to get mammograms until they are in their 40’s and 50’s! So it’s quite literally up to YOU to check your breasts regularly. Due to how fast this type of cancer can grow (it can literally double in size in a few weeks) it’s super important to check regularly! Monthly at the same time each month is what’s recommended. A bit of perspective, with a non triple negative type of breast cancer a mammogram every 2 years would be ample to detect it early enough to treat. With triple negative the 2 year mark would probably be too late . 8 months is more like it, or even less. Please don’t feel like it’s never going to be you as it’s always someone else..it happened to me, age 36 with a young family. Be cautious, be mindful, be healthy, listen to your instinct, check your breasts! Big love xx Pic by my talented friend @enchanted_weddings of my husband Luke and I right when this journey began.

14.01.2022 Only a matter of weeks ago I was told I have triple negative breast cancer. This accounts for only 15% of breast cancer today and is much more aggressive than more commonly found breast cancers. It’s also more prevalent in younger women. I am 36 years old. There's no other way I can explain it other than surreal. It was numbing, acceptance and disbelief all simultaneously. A strange yet familiar feeling as my mother 10 years prior had died of cancer. Strangely a part of me ...Continue reading

13.01.2022 UPDATE: It's been a while since my last post and as I have been bumping into people everyone is asking what's been going on so I thought it would be best to do a post for everyone. Honestly I often find it challenging when seeing people in public as everyone wants to ask how I am going of course which is so lovely,. However this means that all of my interactions with people I am talking about cancer and it very easily takes over my entire existence. This is not the place I wa...Continue reading

13.01.2022 I love a florist who really showcases the intricacies of the flowers .. @georgieboy_melbourne allowing this beauty to have her moment of glory. Captured beautifully by @mirandastokkelweddings at @firecracker_hq

12.01.2022 The one time when flapping my arms about finally paid off . I find it incredibly hard talking without using my arms to help me emphasise things. Once (yes I’ve only dared to try it one time), I held my hands together in attempt to stop doing it. It felt so horrible and unnatural. Now they go like crazy and seem to have a life of their own. I don’t mind, I like observing them, smiling to myself often losing my train of thought as I lose focus on the topic at hand. 08.01.2022 Incredible student work with the help from the talented @shes_a_wildflower ! So proud of the bunch of women who attended my first workshop and what they created in a limited timeframe working alongside others. 05.01.2022 DRAPING- Something that I truly adore so much. The fall of the chosen fabric, it’s intricacies and unique personality. The way it moves around the surrounding elements or when people walk past it. It’s ability to hold a perfect crinkle. When it’s manipulated beautifully it can create a lovely tactile experience. (Tell me I’m not the only one who runs my hand along fabrics in clothing stores?) It honestly inspires me so much and I simply love using it. I actually have t...o use restraint to not hang it at every wedding . Teaching how I drape at my workshop was one of the students favourite parts. It’s obvious fabric has the same affect on others too which is so lovely. It got me wondering what it is that gets you inspired? What’s your thing? Are you even aware of it yet or still searching? 05.01.2022 New addition to the silent auction. This beautiful vase by one of my fav designers @den_holm! Click the link in my bio to start bidding on this amazing piece!

03.01.2022 I found the process of curating my content for my 2 day workshop initially intimidating, wondering how I would manage speak for 2 days straight about what I do. However once I started (in true Shonel style) I couldn’t stop and quite literally could have turned it into a week long retreat. (And takers?!) The process was so incredible and made me really understand why I do things a certain way. These things you learn over time that now feel instinctive, you often lose sight o...f the process and journey it took you to reach that point. But understanding these things and openly sharing them with other creatives was a feeling I will never forget, like a caffeine hit that’s wearing off and now I’m craving more... I’m currently exploring a USA workshop so if you haven’t registered your interest, nows your chance. Follow the link in my bio and stay tuned! Exciting things coming for Nomad. See more

01.01.2022 Your love and support is making these days so high and beautiful. It’s truly giving me a huge lift energetically. All that I can say thank you, and please know that I mean it with every once of me. As does my husband luke (as pictured with his suspected stress related alopecia )! I’d love if you were open to heading to the link in my bio where some incredibly talented friends of mine have put together a silent auction fundraiser to help us continue to raise funds for our loss... of income over this time. There are some FANTASTIC items up for grabs (perfect Christmas presents) you can bid on. The auction will be on until end of day tomor so get in quick to snap yourself up a bargain. Big love to all of you. Love this pic by my dear friend @enchanted_weddings who also has an incredible photography package up for grabs. See more
