24.01.2022 A man has been arrested after a domestic incident at Tumut last night. About 3pm (Wednesday 7 August 2019), police were called to a domestic violence incident ...on Hassett Street. Officers attended and spoke to a 61-year-old man, who alleged his 25-year-old son had attempted to stab him. Contact was unable to be made with the 25-year-old, who was believed to be in the home, and specialist resources were contacted. Further inquiries revealed that the man was within the Tumut CBD. About 7.30pm, the man was arrested on Merrival Street, Tumut. He will receive treatment at a local health facility and is expected to be charged upon his release.

14.01.2022 Women and their children have the right and deserve to be safe from all forms of violence in Australia, regardless of their visa status. DVNSW is a member of th...e National Advocacy Group on Women on Temporary Visas Experiencing Violence made up of over sixty state and national peak bodies, service providers and other organisations working to address violence against women across Australia. Together we have developed a comprehensive Blueprint for Reform to achieve safety for all women. Step 1: Improve the migration system so that all women on temporary visas who experience domestic, family and sexual violence and their dependants can access protections, services and justice. Step 2: Ensure eligibility and access to services and government support are based on women’s needs for safety and recovery, regardless of their migrant status. Step 3: Ensure that women on temporary visas who have experienced domestic, family and sexual violence and their dependants have immediate and full access to safety, protection, justice and fully funded specialist support with demonstrated gender expertise and cultural competency. Find the full Blueprint here and please share widely! http://bit.ly/blueprint-for-reform #16Days #SafetyBeyondVisa #SafetyForAllWomen Image description: a woman wearing glasses, sitting at the table thinking; an image is overlaid with a pink topographic map pattern. 11.01.2022 Just as sweet messages can be sent via text, so can harassment and manipulation. This is sometimes referred to as textual abuse, a form of dating violence that happens almost exclusively via text and involves excessive and sometimes threatening messages.

07.01.2022 The Red Heart Campaign often collects figures of all men, women and children who are killed due to murder or manslaughter, regardless of the perpetrator's gende...r or relationship to the victim. This has now been expanded to include those killed in terrorist attacks overseas, women killed due to accidental firearm discharges and domestic violence events committed by foreigners whilst overseas. It's great that there is a group supporting all these victims and giving them a place to be remembered. More power to the RHC for this. Its a really big job and I respect the effort involved. Whilst this data may be found useful by some (and used as a memorial for others), it does not reflect any one issue. These numbers bear no reflection of the domestic violence issue in Australia. It is conflating many numerous issues together into one number. TRHC are quite open and clear about this. The RHC's own words are 'We are not a domestic violence awareness group'. It is upsetting to see the Australian media and politicians incorrectly quoting and abusing the intention of these figures in the context of domestic violence, whether it be on TV discussion, written articles or opinion pieces. These figures have no place being quoted alongside discussions of domestic violence and risks conflating non-related statistical data/numbers with the topic. This has the effect of making the problem appear far, far larger than it actually is, and that is dangerous. It could be considered a fear-campaign if intentional. Journalists have a responsibility to accurately report and should check what these numbers first represent before using them. This is no fault of the RHC but rather the journalists not taking the time and effort to fully understand what data it is they're using. Whether intentional or not. If you see these figures used in articles, please remember that the overwhelming majority of these numbers are not domestic violence related, and should not be used as an example to gauge the size of the domestic violence issue, especially within Australia.
