22.01.2022 The bar was standing up a bit between 6.00am and 7.00am this morning and a few boats got their noses slapped on the way out. Background Music: 'DC Love Go Go'... by Silent Partner. www.fishingnoosa.com.au

19.01.2022 W/E 28th April 2017 Duty Crew Sea Lions Every now and then we come across a skipper that does everything wrong and gets away with it, this was one of those occasions. Saturday morning we took the John Waddams out to lay a GPS track which is normal for all crews to do as soon as they can when they come on duty, the bar was to say the least very uncomfortable with large standing waves, "they'll be no boats out today was the comment", wasn't long before we were proved wrong. Ha...lf an hour later a call was received from a very distressed and seasick lady requiring help for their newly acquired vessel. As it was approaching low tide it was decided to evacuate the lady and her equally seasick son back to Munna Point whilst the husband rode it out near First Point until enough water was available to escort it back. It turns out they had purchased the vessel that morning and intended to motor it to their home on Stradbrook Island, he had never crossed the bar before, did not know the way out and it was pure luck he didn't come to grief, his radio had no microphone and they were unable to go below due to being sick, they were however smart enough to don life-jackets. The lady stated that the bar had been terrifying and the son thought he was going to die, but after a cup of tea they were transported to the Civic Center for some therapeutic shopping. 6 hours later the crew went out to escort him in only to find the anchor winch had stuck, which after a bit of effort was duly released, then as the vessel started to make its way back it suffered from engine overheating and could only make 6 knots, and in those conditions that was not enough. "I watched you come out and I can't go back in with those large waves" he stated so it was decided to tow him back which we did quite safely. "Did you not see the forecast" he was asked, 4 metre swells and 30 knots of wind, he replied "the bay looked OK". These people where extremely lucky and have vowed to get the vessel checked over before they leave Noosa again. Nothing then until Friday when the crew acted as a safety boat for a fireworks display. 17.01.2022 At 2.25am this morning our radio operator received a call from a person in France who said her brother was in distress on a yacht in Laguna Bay, the police were notified and a crew made ready, upon reaching the yacht one of our crew, a trained nurse, felt he should be taken to hospital. He was transferred back to base and on to Noosa Hospital, it is not known what he was suffering from or if he has been released.

14.01.2022 W/E 14/4/17 Duty Crew Sharks Fairly quiet week despite some great weather and boats everywhere, with just 2 breakdowns requiring tows and 2 escorts across the Noosa Bar, As you can see from Fishing Noosa's video conditions deteriorated somewhat over the weekend.

06.01.2022 W/E 12/5/17 Duty Crew Sharks Bad weather kept most vessels in the river and we had just the one assist, a jump start for a boat with a flat battery at Nth Reef.

05.01.2022 W/E 5/5/17 Duty Crew Sea Hawks A patient had to be evacuated from a vessel off Noosa on Sunday suffering from an unknown condition, they were taken to Noosa Hospital. On Monday a vessel was towed back from Jew Shoal after it broke down, then on Tuesday another vessel was recovered from Nth Reef after it to suffered engine failure, bad weather for the rest of the week kept the boats at home.

02.01.2022 W/E 21/4/17 Duty Crew Stingrays Interesting week with the houseboat that was found overturned at its mooring on Friday night, a small oil-spill was quickly contained by an oil boom provided by Noosa Council. On Tuesday morning well before the sun rose we received a call from a lady in France who was worried about a relative who had anchored in a 40' yacht very close to the shark nets and was unwell. The patient had rung her because he didn't know what to do or who to contact..., after battling the bar our crew where able to put a trained nurse, who happened to be part of that crew, on board for an assessment. The crew felt the 40 year old male should go hospital and he was successfully transferred to our base and then on to Noosa Hospital,2 days later the yacht and presumably the patient had gone. A hire boat with 12 people on board got itself stuck on a sandbank, it was re floated at the request of the hire company. See more
