23.01.2022 There has been no platter served up for Kimba. The concerns and requests for transparency and a fair, equitable process remain. #Auspol #SAParli #RadioactiveWaste #FlawedProcess #notonfarmingland #EyrePeninsula

22.01.2022 Article released today by The Australia Institute and referred to in the ABC 639 interview this morning..... "Words Before Waste: South Australians Call for More Consultation on Federal Radioactive Waste Plan" - The Australia Institute 17/09/2020New research shows that, while South Australians are divided on the issue of a nuclear waste dump, a clear majority believe more consultation should be undertaken before any final decision is made regarding a proposed disposal and st...orage facility near Kimba on the Eyre Peninsula.

21.01.2022 This senate inquiry does not provide certainty for the project - it remains unproven, unwelcome and this unfinished business will continue to be opposed until a more respectful and credible process is advanced Craig Wilkins

20.01.2022 BOTCHED PROCESS COULD BRING GOVERNMENT RADIOACTIVE WASTE FACILITY PLANS UNDONE The Senate has handed down its report into the National Radioactive Waste Managem...ent facility site selection Bill and it looks like the Government will face challenges getting it through by the Parliament. The Bill became necessary after the Government botched its site selection process to such a degree that it would almost certainly have seen the Minister’s decision overturned on judicial review. The Government is asking the Senate to fix up its mistake. But the Senate cannot do this without serving up the majority of the stakeholders in this matter with a plate of Government cooked injustice. Labor has indicated it will not support the Bill. So have the Greens. That means it’s up to the crossbench of which I am a part. I will not support the Bill. The Senate’s report can be found here https://www.aph.gov.au///Economics/RadioactiveWaste/Report

18.01.2022 When a Minister breezes in and out of town who only inherited the portfolio to just do his job. How does that make people feel when he has opted to legislate by bypassing any judicial review and procedural fairness. Do we trust this process to put radioactive waste amongst agriculture and above ground whilst double handling ILW indefinitely? Is trust gained by using emotional blackmail saying Australians could die if the facility doesn’t go ahead. This is not ok and we are allowed to say so. #Auspol #flawedprocess #notonfarmingland

14.01.2022 We have spent two very productive days at Parliament House speaking about our concerns regarding the proposed Kimba dump site and the Government's attempts to pass legislation that intentionally takes away our rights to judicial review. Thank you to all of our supporters who helped get us there, this has been a long and expensive fight, but our voices are being heard.

14.01.2022 Extract from this article by Michele Madigan "In the words of Labor Senator Jenny McAllister in her dissenting report: ‘In evidence to the committee, the Department confirmed that the effect of the change proposed in the legislation is to remove the requirements for procedural fairness in the selection of the site.’" #national #radioactivewaste #Auspol #SAParli #KimbaHalfwayAcross #NationalRadioactiveWasteManagementBill #notonfarmingland #flawedprocess

13.01.2022 You know what "fails the pub test"? The concern by AECOM that the nuclear waste might actually go through Kimba! Too bad the other towns it WILL go through!

12.01.2022 The No Radioactive Waste on Agricultural Land in Kimba or SA group has always maintained that the current process the Federal Government have devised to site the National Radioactive Waste Management Facility is both fundamentally flawed and inherently divisive. It is clear that the Senate Economics Committee also find themselves divided on this issue, as can be witnessed in the three dissenting statements handed down within the report. Over 5 years, one constant in a revolvi...ng line up of Ministers and Department staff has been their continual trivialisation of our concerns and opinions. That the federal government and their new Minister now consciously attempt to eliminate the fundamental right of Australians to judicial review and procedural fairness epitomises the lack of integrity and transparency with which this process had been conducted. It is exceedingly clear that if this proposal was openly and broadly supported, the current legislation to select a site by Ministerial decree would suffice. We have always upheld that this issue is, and should be, bigger than just Kimba and that our community is much wider than just our geographical local government area. Meaningful engagement with others within proximity to the sites, regardless of council boundaries is the responsibility of the Minister, and has not occurred. Controlling boundaries and continually sampling the same people is manipulative, provides no assurance of broad community support and remains contested. The proposed double handling and temporary storing of intermediate level waste above ground for decades and on agricultural land makes no sense for our nation’s long term responsibility to safely manage our most dangerous waste. The fact that the Senate Committee is as divided over this as our community proves that this proposed amendment, and in fact this whole process is fundamentally wrong.

07.01.2022 SENATE ECONOMICS COMMITTEE VISIT TO WOOMERA Today the Air Force hosted a visit by the Senate Economics Committee to the Woomera Prohibited Area (WPA) so that we... could see the two waste facilities located near Evett’s Field and get a feel for Woomera’s suitability as a site for a National Radioactive Waste Management Facility (NRWMF). The Air Force was very helpful showing us about and providing us wth an overview of current and future operations. Defence’s position is that their range operations and a NRWMF are incompatible. I’m not convinced and will continue to press my legislative amendment to have the facility’s location moved from prime agricultural land near Kimba to a suitable site within the vast defence secured area within the WPA.

01.01.2022 In the words of Peter Woolford and representative of the No Radioactive Waste on Agricultural Land in Kimba or SA members. Conversation with Peter Goers. #radioactivewaste #SAParli #Auspol #notonfarmingland #flawedprocess
