21.01.2022 In a No Roads staff meeting, we were talking about resilience and why we think some people are more resilient than others. As a result, we started talking about tough treks, and if we believe they have the ability to make us more resilient people. We would love to know your thoughts, have you completed a tough trek (or any adventure that pushed you outside of your comfort zone), and do you think it has changed how you react to situations?

18.01.2022 Today is a fantastic day. No Roads in conjunction with other members of the Kokoda Tour Operators Association (KTOA) have helped raise over $10000 for the villages along the Kokoda Track. These funds will start to be distributed in the following weeks and we will update everyone with photos and hopefully some video. 101 Australians have now contributed to this incredible effort You are one of 101 truly fantastic Australians and we cant thank you enough. Below is a transcript... form Alice, a woman who lives along the Kokoda Track. "Good day Australia. Thank you very much for your donation. With no trekking this year it has been tough for our villages. This money will help very very much with community and children to put food on the table. We look forward to welcoming you all back on the track next year. Thank you very much. Nohoma (goodbye)" No more words needed If you would like to keep contributing please go to https://gf.me/u/yn76pg

18.01.2022 Some may call us optimistic, others just plain crazy Whatever you want to call us, we are still planning on taking on our Epic Winter Traverse in September with the hope that lockdown will be behind us and we will be free to travel within our own state. It takes a certain amount of crazy to undertake a trek like this so it doesnt surprise us too much that there are only 2 spots left ... If the trip cannot go ahead you will not be charged a single cent so there is no risk in booking! However, If it does go ahead and you missed out, you will be kicking yourself for not signing up when you had the chance. Where are my crazy people at? https://www.noroads.com.au//det/bogong-feathertop-traverse

16.01.2022 Have you ever wondered how trekking times are calculated? A Scottish chap by the name of William Naismith developed this simple walking time concept in 1892 that is still used today to determine how long a walk will take. As a general rule, hikers will travel about 5 kilometers in an hour on flat terrain. Every time you add 600 meters in elevation gain over that distance, this adds an extra hour to the journey.

16.01.2022 There has never been a more important time to support local businesses, and when that business is as incredible as the Healesville Hotel it is super easy to support them. During lockdown, they are doing Weekend Roasts from $24.00 per person, where you can have that amazing restaurant experience in the comfort of your own home. If you are in the local area get behind these awesome people and enjoy a delicious meal.... https://www.facebook.com/healesvillehotel/?__tn__=%2Cd%2CP-R&eid=ARAaR1UbcLqi6MkZFrvULkc2jRRzgw6EM0ci17iXAiWYc9r9DGhklOWiNs9306BHdvzOBfNgWadFbxXx

15.01.2022 It is with sadness that we advise that Norm Furness OAM (VX23557), passed away on 31 August 2020. Norm, who was President of the 2/22nd/Lark Force Battalion Association, was involved in the formative stages, in early 2009, of the Rabaul and Montevideo Maru Society which has now been integrated into the Papua New Guinea Association of Australia. He is particularly well known for his lifelong active work in support of the widows and families of the 2/22nd Battalion/Lark Force... Association and also for his commitment to the few survivors of the battalion, despite their widely scattered homes. I thought, at that time, that all these mates that I knew nothing about, what happened to them, would be coming home, explained Norm. But three and a half years before that, they were all dead. But we didnt know." - Norm talking of the Lark Force members captured by the Japanese earlier this year. It was unknown at the time that around 1150 of them had all perished with the sinking of the Montevideo Maru As Norm managed to survive the horrific onslaught of the Japanese in the early part of WWII, and managed to escape New Britain in those first months of 1942, Norms 70+ year commitment to the families of those who did not survive has been extraordinary. In order that history can learn from the past, and so that his mates did not die in vain, Norm has also worked to ensure that what happened to the 2/22nd Battalion, a unit which has not been reraised, and Lark Force will not be forgotten.

09.01.2022 The top image is the way we imagine most ships sailed to Australia from the UK in the 19th Century. However many chose the bottom image, well away from the African continent, via the Southern Ocean and most never saw land for months. If the navigators sextant was out by 1 second at Greenwich, by the time they reached Tasmania their course could be out by as much as 50 kilometers. That is one reason why so many ship sunk off the coast of the Victoria giving it the moniker "Shipwreck Coast". Part of the incredible history of the Great Ocean Walk. For more information about our 6 day trek go to https://www.noroads.com.au/expediti/detail/great-ocean-walk
