23.01.2022 K.A.L.O.F. (Keep a lookout for) Turtles on the move with this rain. Please if you see one crossing the road, be mindful of other traffic, stay safe and place off the road in his/her direction of travel if safe to do so and avoid getting peed on @N.e.v.a.a

19.01.2022 Good evening all... We are still needing the communities support to help our wildlife shelter's and carers. If you have an donations please contact us to organise pick ups/drop off points. The wildlife still need feeding and carers still need assistance.... At present we are needing specialised milk formulas, as I have a stockist that gives us a discount on orders, we would really appreciate some monetary assistance to purchase these items. Eg: Impact, Biolac and Di-vetalact. These products are very essential to help the "pinkys" to survive. Donations can be made to: North East Victoria Animal Aid BSB: 063531 ACC: 1058 2690 I will put up another "wish list" tomorrow on basic items you can purchase in the supermarket or chemist. Many Blessings to you all.. Together we can make a difference.. Moah's Ark Yarrawonga Wildlife Shelter

18.01.2022 They certainly have their own characters.. Stubby the magpie at Moah's Ark Yarrawonga Wildlife Shelter has no foot and has been learning balance. It was feeding time when we arrived..

18.01.2022 WHEN NOT TO INTERFERE Please check out what a fledgling looks like. They are on the ground at this size for a very good reason. As the Cocky’s are ground fe...eders, mum will be teaching young how to forage and gain independence. Birds generally do not fledge(fly) straight after leaving nest. Mum/dad are watching from afar. Please refrain from picking up young birds because they do not run away from u or can’t fly. This process of fledgling to Juvenile takes sometime. We all need L plates for a while. If you notice trauma such as inability to stand, wing dropped, heat exhaustion, obvious signs of injury, then contact your local wildlife shelter. @n.e.v.a.a

18.01.2022 Big weekend for us some highs and lows. This poor turtle ended up being put down but we could save 15 eggs. Also got another 3 eggs from Long Neck that sadly died on the road. We released 2 rescue turtles. And got 1 new one in care.

18.01.2022 I'll probably get in trouble for this but... HAPPY BIRTHDAY RETTA!!! Hoping you have an awesome day today. ... You are such a beautiful, caring, supporting friend to so many. You always give so much to so many fur, feathered and scaley animals and humans. We are very honoured to have you in our lives and call you family. Lots of big love and hugs.. 17.01.2022 What to do if you find a FLEDGLING:

17.01.2022 Wow!!! What a magical experience today was. Loretta and Mo turned up here this morning and we transferred the 3 nuts (Coconut, Hazelnut and Nutmeg) into my 4wd and headed up the King Valley to meet up with Claire where she showed us where to go to the release spot. We actually thought that they were going to be soft released (stay with a carer and be slowly introduced to the bush) Loretta and Mo have had these girls in care for nearly 12 months and have done an amazing job b...ringing them up to become strong, healthy wombats. We applaud you both We get them out and they stayed close by for awhile. They started exploring further away, little Nutmeg was off and running first.. head down and away she went. We walked the other 2 in the same direction where they found burrows, started digging and really enjoying themselves. We slowly backed away and then they were heading bush as well. Such a heartfelt moment knowing they are going to be safe in such a beautiful environment. A massive THANKYOU to Claire and Joy for making this happen and to Loretta and Mo for inviting us to come along. They have definitely been a big part of us and watching them grow has been amazing. Yes, we are all going to miss them but knowing they are safe, wild and free is just fantastic. Moah's Ark Yarrawonga Wildlife Shelter See more

13.01.2022 This Sacred Kingfisher hit a window, then was attacked by Magpies. Ryan who lives in Wangaratta witnessed the event and rescued the kingfisher. Following the pr...ocedure for birds hitting windows, the kingfisher still could not fly. Thank you to Sami who transported him to Melrose Vets, Wodonga. Dr Amy Kay at Melrose Vets assessed the Kingfisher, with X-Rays found a fracture in the left wing. After 2 weeks in care, then flight exercise, to build up those flight muscles, Sami transported him back to Ryan, where he was released. See more

13.01.2022 A massive THANKYOU to Treezie and James for all these wonderful donations. From medical supplies, pet blankets to lactate. You guys are awesome and we are forever grateful to you both. And thankyou Dan and Juss for going to pick it all up. Many Blessings from all of us here.. ... Moah's Ark Yarrawonga Wildlife Shelter See more

13.01.2022 Tomorrow we have the honour of being part of the soft release for these 3 gorgeous nuts. It certainly has been a beautiful journey watching these gorgeous girls growing up over the past 11 months. We are so going to miss Coconut, Hazelnut & Nutmeg and their shenanigans, they have definitely been entertaining, they've had their challenges but look at them now.. big, healthy wombats with different characteristics and attitudes. You've done an amazing job in raising them Loretta and Mo. Much love and appreciation

12.01.2022 Beechworth Wildlife Shelter, we’re blessed today to receive this amazing donation from NEVA, little Kevin says thanks for his new pouches x

12.01.2022 WHAT TO DO IF U FIND OCCUPIED NEST ON GROUND: If chicks are unharmed and nest not salvageable due to damage, utilise small ice cream container with dried g...rass or tissues in base and gently place chicks in. Secure to tree or shrub away from predators as close as practical to location found and mum will return to young. Any queries ring your local wildlife shelter. @NEVAA See more

12.01.2022 DISPLACED ROOS: Be mindful that Roos are currently displaced at present around logging area in Benalla Rd, between railway crossing and MV Hiway intersectio...n. Due to heavy machinery and noise, the local mob have been pushed out and displaced around Benalla rd(near cop shop), Murray valley hiway toward Cobrawonga and rear of grain Elevators board. Be aware to slow down for fear of a Jumper. Had one displaced in Reilly’s road today. North East Victoria Animal Aid - NEVAA

12.01.2022 Echidnas - what are they up to now? Breeding season now comes to an end for this year, but you know what that means? Puggles! Over the past couple of months, ec...hidnas would be laying eggs and the little hatchling puggles will be in their mothers pouches and then placed into nursery burrows. A reminder to not relocate echidnas, especially from now til early next year, as they need to find their way back to their young after they place them in a nursery burrow. It is also extra important that if you come across a deceased echidna (such as roadkill) to check if it has any young in its pouch. If you do find live young then call Wildlife Rescue for advice on where to take or how to care for it, if you find a deceased juvenile echidna we want to know about that too. Call 0434479459 or 0407412750. Also Echidnas that appear to be "dead" may not be, again call us please. PS: thanks to whoever took the pik of the adult E peeking over a log. PPS: thanks Echidna CSI for reminding everyone about this special time.

11.01.2022 Fun fact Friday...

11.01.2022 Crazy but good and positive day!! Let's start by leaving here at 10am to head to Bundalong to drop off some of my beeswax furniture polish and finally meet in person with some lovely people. Heading out of Bundalong i get a "turn around" from Dan, me thinking wildlife, no it's a bee swarm on the picnic table, hmmm no box in my truck?? Got the wildlife carry cage on board and shopping bags. Dan gets the insulated shopping bag and gets the swarm in and zips it up, then puts ...it into the carry cage, back home with a swarm in my truck, put it into a bee hive box. Head to Yarrawonga to continue my to do list. Pick up a Diamond dot from a friend plus she donated a cat climbing thing (great for possum's rehabilitation). Head to Loretta's for a much needed coffee, catch up and wildlife cuddles, she definitely has her hands full at the moment. Get home at 2:30, swarm still in box at home ..happy dance Plus a few normal things.. I'll post up the video of the bee swarm. Thankyou to Shaz for supporting us once again. 10.01.2022 Dan my hubby made the front page!! Dan helps maintain the beehives for the school in Wangaratta and Unfortunately the beehives that the school has were robbed of bees and honey. A huge loss for them, it will take time to rebuild them.

10.01.2022 This morning I received a message from Chris at Kangaloola wildlife shelter saying that the humidity crib that was kindly donated to them from us and NE Health received it's first patient last night, a fan-tailed Cuckoo that had been struck by a vehicle. It's wonderful getting messages like this to know that all our hard work is paying off. Together we can make a difference.. 07.01.2022 I had a call this evening from Reptiles Victoria regarding a Lace Monitor which had been walking sluggishly beside Benalla-Yarrawonga Road at Yarrawonga South.... Thankfully, despite most likely having been hit by a car, this beautiful specimen certainly woke up when I picked him up to check him over, he decided there wasn't going to be too much "touchy feely stuff" going on and attempted to exit off the back of my ute. Once I had put him on a nearby tree, it was quite clear that he was not in need of any further intervention from me, in no time flat he was 4m up the tree to safety. If you see any Wildlife that is behaving unusually call Wildlife Victoria , your Local Wildlife Shelter or your Local Licenced Wildlife Controller for assistance.

06.01.2022 Definitely a proud parents moment

06.01.2022 COMPETITION REMINDER!!! Your chance to win your choice of either a Survival Snake Bite Kit or a Survival Pet First Aid Kit. Simply take a photo of my ute, out a...nd about. 04.01.2022 IF YOU SEE THIS TURTLE WE'D LIKE TO KNOW Australian Fauna Management has teamed up with DPI invasive species unit to trial effective trapping and capture techni...ques for a management plan on the invasive Red-eared Slider Turtle. The red-eared slider turtle (Trachemys scripta elegans), originates from the midwestern states of the USA and northeastern Mexico. However, non-native populations of wild-living red-eared slider turtles now occur worldwide due to the species being extensively traded as both a pet and a food item. An adult red-eared slider turtle has a carapace length of 12.5 to 28 cm. It has a distinctive, broad red or orange stripe behind each eye, while narrow yellow stripes mark the rest of the animal’s head and legs. The carapace is dark green with yellow markings, and the plastron is yellow with some dark rings, blotches or swirls. Some individuals have a dark pigment that covers their coloured markings so that they appear nearly black in colour. Male red-eared slider turtles are usually smaller than females, and have very long claws on the front feet. The red-eared slider turtle is listed by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) as ‘one of the world’s worst invasive alien species’. It is considered an environmental pest outside its natural range because the species competes with native turtles for food, nesting areas and basking sites. Red-eared slider turtles are recognised reservoirs for the Salmonella bacterium. Infection of humans caused by the handling of turtles has led to restrictions on the sale of it in the USA. The red-eared slider turtle has been exploited by the pet animal industry and since the 1970s, with massive numbers being produced on turtle farms in the USA for the international pet trade. Red-eared slider turtles became a popular pet animal because of its small size (as a juvenile), simple husbandry requirements and reasonably low price. They are often obtained as pets when they are very small and look attractive. However, the animals grow rapidly into large adults and are capable of biting their owners, resulting in them being dumped or released from captivity. Consequently, they now occur in freshwater ecosystems in many developed countries with high densities in urban wetlands. Red-eared slider turtles have been smuggled into, illegally kept and illegally released in Australia. Consequently in some parts of Australia, wild living populations are now found in urban and semi-rural areas.

04.01.2022 Today the lovely Sue from Beechworth wildlife shelter arrived here to pick up all her amazing things. A few months ago they had a fire at the shelter and lost their home, all their supplies and unfortunately a fair few animals but today with everyone's help with donations of funds, items and so much more we were able to get them back on track to rescuing wildlife again. 03.01.2022 Happy Valentine's day! Did you know that some of our native wildlife mate for life? One species that does this is tawny frogmouths. Tawny frogmouths are beautif...ul, intelligent birds that meet and stay together for the remainder of their lives. They can often be seen perched in trees with their partners and if the time of year is right their chick as well! See more
