22.01.2022 MEET MONDAY Introducing Jacob Spatuzzo! Jacob has been with us for 1.5 years, based in our Mount Isa office providing outreach services to the North West. As an Exercise Physiologist, Jacob helps to treat and improve the health of people of all ages, with a wide variety of chronic diseases and musculoskeletal injuries. Jacob’s interests lay strongly in pain management and the treatment of back pain and cardiac rehab (post heart attack/stroke etc.). He enjoys helping those with injuries return to full function and improve their quality of life. Jacobs says I enjoy seeing people realise that their injury or health condition does not define them. Through providing patients with the appropriate health education and exercise treatment, I can make a big difference in people’s lives and that in itself is the greatest reward.

20.01.2022 We were onsite yesterday at Alligator Creek filming for staff cultural awareness resources. Randal Ross our Manager Cultural and Community Relations talks about the significance of this location for local indigenous peoples. The rock you see behind Randal is the Fresh (Yagilgar) water (Narbura) Crocodile (Gulumbulah) who would block the Saltwater Crocodile from coming further upstream and to keep the families safe during ceremonies. The full Story is below Story of the Bi...dia Gudjuda Gulumbulah (Story of the Saltwater Crocodile) Ceremony for males and women’s birthing happened upstream but at different locations. From the ceremonies blood would often travel downstream in the currents. The Bidia Gudjuda Gulumbulah would pick up the scent of the blood and travel upstream to see where the blood was coming from, but as he got closer it was the Yagilgar Narbura Gulumbulah that would block the Bidia Gudjuda Gulumbulah from traveling up stream to see where the blood was coming from. The Yagilgar Narbura Gulumbulah would keep the families safe.

20.01.2022 Always Was, Always Will Be. recognises that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years. #NAIDOCWeek2020 acknowledges and celebrates that our nation’s story didn’t begin with documented European contact whether in 1770 or 1606 - with the arrival of the Dutch on the western coast of the Cape York Peninsula. NAIDOC 2020 invites all Australians to embrace the true history of this country a history which dates back thousands of generat...ions. It’s about seeing, hearing and learning the First Nations’ 65,000+ year history of this country - which is Australian history. We want all Australians to celebrate that we have the oldest continuing cultures on the planet and to recognise that our sovereignty was never ceded. Always Was, Always Will Be.
