This passionate and committed group of four wheel drive (4WD) enthusiasts are getting ready for the Drive4Life Tour 2020, that will cover the Iconic Outback Hotel route from 26 September to 3 October this year. Drive4Life raises funds for Northcott through these tours.... The tour is open to both 4WD and All Wheel Drive (AWD) vehicles. Whether you are a novice or an experienced 4WD junkie, you can be part of this tag-along four wheel drive tour and see areas of Australia that are off the beaten track. 13.01.2022 Today we are celebrating all the wonderful fathers in the Northcott family. Meet Michael Roberts, a proud Dungutti man who has been working at Northcott for over 18 months. In 2018, I started receiving letters from school saying my children Mananui (now 11) and Paiana (now 9) were struggling and falling behind. Paiana was showing signs of anxiety and Mananui was not engaging in school work, isolating himself and also suffering anxiety. Both my kids were not talking proper...ly. They weren’t ableto hold a spoon or brush their teeth and couldn’t stand noises. Eventually they were diagnosed with autism and sensory disorder; l had no idea what that meant for my children. I decided to give up work to look after them, but l still had no idea about how to manage their behaviours and my anger and frustration was starting to show. l was really struggling. l decided to enrol in a CERT IV in Disability and Community Services because I thought this would help me understand what was happening with my children. After l successfully completed the course, l applied for a support worker position at Northcott and that’s when my life completely changed. l started to understand autism and what people go through. Working at Northcott has given me strength and the mechanisms to better understand people with disability and support them. It has helped me become a better parent to my beautiful children. Happy father’s day to Michael and all dads!

It was a privilege to have Uncle Salty, Uncle Gerald and the entire men's group attend our Oak Flats centre - all staff and customers enjoyed the yarns and chats. 10.01.2022 The National Redress Scheme provides acknowledgement and support to people who experienced institutional child sexual abuse. It has been created in response to recommendations by the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse, and is an alternative to seeking compensation through the courts. Northcott has committed to, and is in the process of joining, the National Redress Scheme. The Scheme can provide a redress payment and a direct personal response from the institution (e.g. an apology). For people who are considering applying to the Scheme, there are support services including free counselling and legal help. Visit: www.nationalredress.gov.au

05.01.2022 This week we sadly farewell Kerry Stubbs, after 12 years as our CEO. She says: I’ve been fortunate to build a wonderful team, and even more fortunate to meet many different people with disability, their families, friends and communities. They have strengthened my belief in the value of diversity and the dignity of every human being. They have taught me so much that I didn’t know and I will always be grateful to each and every one. Kerry stayed on when the pandemic hit, to s...teer the organisation to find new ways to deliver the excellent services that our customers rely on. And she will continue her connection to Northcott as a member of the Board of NI (Northcott Innovation). For now, she is looking forward to spending more time with her family especially her grandchildren! Farewell Kerry, and thank you. Northcott’s new CEO Liz Forsyth will start in September. See more
