22.01.2022 Now this is a pretty solid Maccas run! A tagged Macquarie perch recently recaptured has been on quite the adventure over 3 years, according to our mates at... the Arthur Rylah Institute. Keith Martin recently reeled in this Macca while fishing Lake Dartmouth. He recorded the number of the tag, its details, then let the fish swim free. ARI researchers had this particular fish in their database, which showed it was tagged in November 2017 at 37cm. Keith measured the fish at 40cm when he caught it and the ARI crew say many Maccas of this size are about 30 years old! Keith reported the tag was dirty and hard to read, understandable given it’d been swimming around for 3 years since it last had a clean. This particular Macca was caught by Keith at almost the opposite end of the dam from where ARI had initially tagged it. Research shows Maccas can make this run in only a matter of days. With nearly 10 years of data on this fascinating native fish, we’re learning more about Maccas with every recapture and it’s all helping ensure they’re around for future generations. #maccas #nativefish #ARIresearch

21.01.2022 75 YEARS OF CHANGE IN THE DAIRY INDUSTRY This Thursday is a big day for ABC Rural. It marks 75 years since the department started providing Australians wi...th daily information about farming and agriculture. Plenty has changed in that time, but that’s also true of the industries our reporters follow. Including dairy! Decades after surviving one of the industry's most significant changes, Australian dairy farmers continue to evolve and reinvent their businesses to stay competitive. After dairying at Lockington in northern Victoria for 20 years, and another seven years before that at a nearby property, Lisa Broad and her family moved their farming business to Gippsland last year. See how Lisa and her family have adapted to the move here: https://www.abc.net.au//dairy-deregulation-a-majo/12905028

19.01.2022 Congratulation to Lisa Wise from the Wodonga Unit who today has been awarded the Emergency Services Medal (ESM) in the Australia Day honours list. Lisa has c...ontributed significantly as a leader at Unit and Regional level and is a stand out PEER, always sharing a smile and setting a positive role model and mentoring up and coming leaders. Absolutely well deserved and such a fitting tribute for Lisa’s 30+ years of diligent service and leadership. Thank you for all you have done and continue to do with VICSES and in your community. OFFICIAL CITATION Ms Lisa Wise has served Victoria State Emergency Service (VICSES) as a volunteer for over 30 years in which time she has undertaken a number of leadership roles in both the Wangaratta and Wodonga Units. She has been outstanding in her commitment to not only providing the core role of VICSES to the community of Victoria, but also as a Unit and Regional Trainer, as a Deputy Controller for over 10 years, as a member of the VICSES Peer Support Program, and as the Regional Peer Support Team Leader in the North East region.
