16.01.2022 Its important people with diabetes can access the latest, accurate information on the COVID-19 outbreak. Weve updated our advice on COVID-19 for people living... with diabetes on our website: https://www.diabetesaustralia.com.au/news/15720 We understand some people may be feeling anxious or uncertain. We wanted to remind everyone not to panic, to remain calm and follow advice from healthcare professionals and government officials. Now is the time to practice self care, be kind to yourself and to others (and practice impeccable hygiene!). If you need a bit of extra support, or you are struggling with your diabetes management during this time, please don't hesitate to reach out to our Helpline on 1800 637 700. 12.01.2022 This message from Cheryl Steele (CDE) Dear all, it has been bought to my attention that the Covidsafe app can cause pairing issues with CGM if downloaded on the same phone. I have been in contact with the department and the issue has been esculated to the developers. In the meantime the advice is to delete the Covidsafe app if you are experiencing issues with your CGM connection Just for your information x

12.01.2022 Today I met with Helen Haines for Indi to discuss the current federal government policy on continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) funding. I have explained how expensive it is for most people to access yet it provides so much benefit for us to manage our diabetes (it costs me over $50 a week ) I think its unfair that there is not #cgmforall to access if required My support is behind a co-pay system where the cost is reduced and then more people can access part of the $1...54 million being spent on this I asked what we could do about this from North East Victoria?! Helen has a health background and she understands the importance of this technology and for health dollars to be distributed equitably. She has committed her support in taking this forward if she is elected and has outlined some steps we could take to be heard in Canberra Have you spoken to your local federal member or candidate about how they can support us to enact policy change on this issue?

12.01.2022 The struggle is real.....

11.01.2022 Exercise is an important part of diabetes management. However, its also a very challenging part. Therefore, the ISPAD chapter on Exercise (https://tinyurl.com/...yxk8v4cm) is a must read for: members of the diabetes team, caregivers of a child with T1D/T2D & individual living with T1D As technology is evolving very fast, the use of different technologies during exercise is discussed in the guideline. You will also find a practical figure illustrating how to act when different levels of ketones are detected prior to exercise. Later in the guideline you will also find summary recommendations for avoiding hypoglycemia in physically active young people with type 1 diabetes. You will find several practical recommendations compared to previous guidelines. These include general precautions prior to each exercise session, differences in glucose response depending on the type of exercise, carbohydrates before, during and after exercise. Moreover, you will find specific practical advice on what to do depending on the level that you are: either getting started with exercise, having normal day-to-day exercise or training along with competition. This is also followed by a section about recommended glucose levels at the start of exercise and strategies for glucose management. As exercise provides so many benefits this is really a must read chapter! Check the online lectures about Exercise management in type 1 diabetes https://tinyurl.com/y2tl8wbq and Sports nutrition https://tinyurl.com/y2e8ondd too!
