20.01.2022 NTCA LAUNCHES ONLINE JOBS PORTAL AND INDUSTRY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM TO FOSTER CAREERS IN THE AGRICULTURAL SECTOR The NTCA has launched a new online jobs portal and a newly-developed Industry Development Program (IDP) today. The jobs platform aims to connect job seekers from across Australia with agricultural businesses looking for staff in the Northern Territory, while the NT Government-funded industry development program will be providing nationally accredited training for you...ng Territorians seeking employment within the pastoral industry. NTCA chief executive officer Ashley Manicaros said the careers portal and the Industry Development Program would be vital economic tools in uncertain times. Covid-19 has left hundreds of thousands of Australians without stable work, and especially school leavers are looking at entering a highly competitive jobs market, Mr Manicaros said. But while lots of industries had to lay off their staff, the agricultural sector is seeking more workers than ever. The new NTCA jobs portal is the link between those vacancies and job seekers. Mr Manicaros said the Industry Development Program, funded by the Department of Industry, Trade and Tourism would equip young Territory job seekers with a skill set that will assist them to find, maintain and advance careers within the industry. "As part of the IDP, the NTCA is offering 20 pre-employment roles and 40 Certificate II in Rural Operations positions to young Territorians eager to become the next generation of NT pastoralists. School leavers looking for gap year placements and young Territorians interested in employment in the industry, are encouraged to use the NTCA’s new jobs portal to lodge their Expressions of Interest in the IDP or apply for station jobs across Australia and NT, Mr Manicaros said. www.herdthat.com.au/jobs

15.01.2022 Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia throws support behind pastoralists Multi-Brolga award winner and 2020 Tripadvisor Travellers' Choice winner, the RFDS Darwin Tourist Facility at Stokes Hill Wharf, is the NTCA's newest HerdThat merchandise outlet. Acting Operations Manager RFDS Central Operations, Samantha Bennett, said she was proud of the working relationship between the Royal Flying Doctor Service and the NT Cattlemen's Association.... "The Flying Doctor is committed to improving and saving the lives of people who live, work and travel throughout the Northern Territory. Earlier this year, we added a second $14 million purpose-built aeromedical jet to our fleet serving both the Territory and South Australia," Mrs Bennett said. As part of the PC-24 jet launch in July, the RFDS announced outback icon S. Kidman & Co had expanded and extended its sponsorship of RFDS Central Operations for another four years. At the launch, David Larkin AM, Chief Executive Officer of Hancock Agriculture, said S. Kidman & Co was delighted to continue the alignment of its famous brand alongside Australia’s leader in aeromedical and primary health care in rural and remote Australia. Like the Royal Flying Doctor Service, S. Kidman & Co has a rich history and a strong future invested in the Territory, Mr Larkin said. Mrs Bennett said the RFDS had a long-standing relationship with pastoralists across the country. "More than 90 years ago Reverend John Flynn witnessed the daily struggle of pioneers living in remote areas and had a vision to provide a 'mantle of safety' for the people of the bush. To this day, this vision is what we base our work on. Every day, the RFDS transports eight Territorians in need for specialist medical care," she said. "Selling HerdThat merchandise in our Darwin Tourist Facility is just another opportunity for us to throw our support behind the NT cattle industry. Our HerdThat inventory even includes an exclusive HerdThat messenger bag that cannot be bought anywhere else in Australia. The RFDS Darwin Tourist Facility which was voted in the Top 10% of all Tripadvisor tourist attractions in the world in 2020, is open from 9.30am to 4pm Monday to Sunday. Refer to this story and receive 10% off your entry at the RFDS Darwin Tourist Facility (valid until December 31, 2020). https://youtu.be/9Sb3U0qVCN8

11.01.2022 Northern Territory Cattlemen’s Association’s representative Markus Rathsmann has been elected the new Cattle Council of Australia President. Mr Rathsmann was elected by his fellow directors today. He has been the NTCA’s member representative on the CCA for four years. He operates Mt Ringwood cattle station south of Darwin. Like every director one seeks to make a contribution as best we can to benefit our industry, Mr Rathsmann said.... Our board has some major challenges to address following our AGM to build a stronger more focused CCA for our grassfed producer members. In 2021 as a board we need to take positive steps in our restructure process. This means leading the process and setting the agenda as other directors have noted. The Pilot Policy Council is a good first step. Further steps should include a revised Constitution that satisfies modern governance criteria and greater transparency and democracy in electing our Board and Policy Council members. Taking these steps will go a long way to silence some of our critics. Mr Rathsmann said as CCA adapts to our changed circumstances preserving the unity and representation of our State Farming Organisations is essential. It has been and remains our key strength. Mr Rathsmann identified the need to improve the financial resources of CCA and better communication as critical to its success. At the end of our two year term we must ensure we leave CCA in a better financial position than when we came, he said.

10.01.2022 Are you a school leaver or young Territorian looking to start a career in the NT pastoral industry? We are currently taking expressions of interest for our newly-developed Industry Development Pre-Employment Program. The NTCA Industry Development Pre-Employment Program is a progressive and innovative employment program that engages, trains and supports young Territorians whose employment opportunities have been impacted by the COVID19 pandemic.... The focus of this program is to equip young Territorians with a nationally accredited skill set that will assist them to instantly obtain employment within the pastoral sector. This outcome is achieved through the structured intensive delivery of nationally accredited units. This program has been designed to prepare potential employees for living and working on remote cattle stations. Training is based around day-to-day activities carried out on working cattle stations. This program develops a skilled local workforce who can assist the NT pastoral industry to meet the current labour demands. Further to this, the program's ambition is to increase young peoples’ engagement in the northern pastoral industry through the delivery of training and employment opportunities. https://herdthat.com.au//expression-of-interest-industry-/
