25.01.2022 So, DELWP, under instruction from the Minister Lily DAmbrosio, "will work with Parks Victoria and Bass Coast Shire Council to discuss options and investigate possible acquisition and protection measures" for the Holden Proving Ground. See letter below (which a number of members of the SAVE THE HOLDEN BUSHLANDS group received). Those words "the Minister has asked that I respond on her behalf" clearly shows a deep engagement between the Minister Lily DAmbrosio and DELWP on th...e matter of the future of the site. But "its not over till its over". We MUST keep up the pressure and get this tantalising "possible acquisition and protection" over the line. Over the next weeks, the SAVE THE HOLDEN BUSHLANDS group will stick with the mission in pressing for protection and purchase and for protecting the fragile ecology of the whole of the coastal forest corridor from Cardinia to Grantville. The risk from sand mining, under the cloud of the protections for quarrying (and the scarring and habitat loss that comes with it) proposed by the State Government in its SERA report, is simply too great It may have been a sign, but on Wednesday when scouting for appropriate sites for a photoshoot for The Age newspaper, a posse of six Swift Parrots - highly endangered - flew overhead to settle in a stag tree just metres from the road (I got a phone shot, not great but can be identified). This is why were doing this. FULL TEXT FOLLOWING (de-identified) Dear Mr ........ LANG LANG HOLDEN PROVING GROUND Thank you for your email of 3 July 2020 to the Hon Lily DAmbrosio MP, Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change about the Lang Lang Holden Proving Ground. As this matter is in my area of responsibility, the Minister has asked that I respond on her behalf. The process for the Victorian Government to purchase freehold land requires a thorough assessment of the public land and environmental values, the most appropriate protection methods, overall public benefit and cost. The Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) will work with Parks Victoria and Bass Coast Shire Council to discuss options and investigate possible acquisition and protection measures. If you would like more information about this matter, please call Pat Lambert, Program Manager Land and Built Environment, Gippsland, DELWP, on 0436 619 337 or contact him via email at [email protected]. Thank you for raising this matter with the Minister. Yours sincerely Darrin McKenzie Regional Director Gippsland Forest Fire and Regions Group 16/07/2020

24.01.2022 BACKGROUND: The Lang Lang Holden Proving Ground is 877 hectares, being more than 2000 acres of mostly preserved bush directly accessed from the Bass Hwy. In a region which, once densely forested, has now just remnant pockets, the Proving Ground site is a unique parcel of West Gippsland coastal bushland....Continue reading

22.01.2022 WE CALL FOR ACTION BY THE MINISTER, LILY DAMBROSIO: 1. TO URGENTLY PROTECT THIS BUSHLAND 2. TO ASCERTAIN THE STATUS OF ENDANGERED SPECIES REPORTED WITHIN ITS CONFINES 3. TO INVESTIGATE THE VALUE OF BIO-UNITS IN THE SITE TO THE STATE GOVERNMENT (AND VIC ROADS) FOR NATIVE VEGETATION OFFSETS AND FEDERAL OFFSETS ... 4. TO PURCHASE THE SITE FOR THE VICTORIAN COMMUNITY AND BUNURONG TRADITIONAL OWNERS 5. TO LINK THE PROVING GROUND SITE, LANG LANG CONSERVATION RESERVE, THE GURDIES AND GRANTVILLE CONSERVATION RESERVE INTO A NEW WESTERN PORT NATIONAL PARK In this campaign - SAVE THE HOLDEN BUSHLANDS - we are very pleased for the representation and support given by the Member for Bass, Jordan Crugnale, who recognises its importance to Western Port and the Bass Coast region. But we need action by the Minister for the Environment, Lily DAmbrosio, to protect the site - there is much more to the Proving Ground than its forest cover. There is considerable evidence collected over many years that it is also home to some of Victorias most critically endangered wildlife: such as the Southern Brown Bandicoot, the Long Nosed Bandicoot, White-footed Dunnart, Powerful Owl, Swift Parrot and more, as well as having rare forest bog ecological vegetation classes (and potential habitat for the Growling Grass Frog). How can the Minister contemplate losing this site without thorough research as to what species are there, the status of numbers and the health of the populations? In the largest remaining stand of riparian bushland in the Bass Coast and wider Western Port Region, it would be negligent of the Minister and this Government to let it slip from the grasp of the community without knowing what precisely it is losing. Please call, write or email (and go your hardest): The Hon. Lily DAmbrosio Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change (03) 9422 5171 [email protected] And, local members: Jordan Crugnale (ALP) BASS 9 McBride Avenue, Wonthaggi, VIC 3995 (03) 5672 4755 [email protected] Luke Donnellan (ALP) NARRE WARREN NORTH PO Box 126, Endeavour Hills, VIC, 3802 (03) 9706 0566 [email protected] Pauline Richards (ALP) CRANBOURNE 157A Sladen Street, Cranbourne, VIC 3977 (03) 5996 2901 [email protected]

18.01.2022 The SAVE THE HOLDEN BUSHLANDS campaign is drawing some significant coverage in national and online media. 13.01.2022 The Holden bushlands, the former Holden Proving Ground in the coastal forest of Western Port, is under threat of development, and of sand mining. Its for sale we are calling on the Victorian Government to purchase the site for the Victorian community. (PLEASE SHARE WIDELY THIS MOBILE FRIENDLY VERSION) This remnant preserved habitat, and the identified endangered species it supports (such as the southern brown bandicoot, powerful owl, agile antechinus, lace monitor, eastern... pigmy possum) could hardly be in more danger. The site is also identified for sand mining under the Victorian Governments Strategic Resources Areas (SERA) pilot project and the Extractive Industry Interest Areas identified in that report (ie. for sand mining in South Gippsland and Wyndham). This site must be protected. This fragile forest corridor MUST be protected from sand mining. So please, add your voice by responding to the SERA report survey: SEARCH FOR: Strategic Extractive Resource Areas Pilot Project Survey (the survey is at base of page). It will only take you a few minutes to help stop this environmental catastrophe. Or: email your views - a couple of short sentences will do nicely - to the responsible Ministers: Richard Wynne Minister for Planning Phone: (03) 8683 0964 [email protected] http://twitter.com/rwynnemp The Hon.
