25.01.2022 South Australias roadmap for easing of COVID-19 restrictions kicks in today with the South Australian Government now promoting regional travel and relaxation o...n some social distancing measures including reintroduction of face to face tutorials for uni and TAFE, outdoor dining for cafs and restaurants, opening of community halls, outdoor sport training, auctions and inspections, increasing numbers for funerals, opening of pools and campgrounds and caravan parks (https://www.covid-19.sa.gov.au//covid-restrictions-to-ease.). Within SA State Emergency Service our pandemic strategy and the agencys focus remains on workforce protection measures and business continuity priorities including: - infection control and social distancing measures commensurate to risk; - sustaining operational capabilities to respond and deal with emergencies; and - providing enhanced support to SA Health and SA Ambulance Service. Our units continue to be busy and are maintaining a high level of operational readiness. To support this our training has been modified to achieve social distancing and enhanced infection control outcomes. Other areas of business, such as recruiting and on-boarding have also been modified including the adoption of virtual online information nights/sessions for prospective volunteers. These strategies are highly successful and have allowed metro and regional units to sustain recruiting, induction, training, and equipment maintenance activities. A great example of our units getting on with business was showcased this week in the Coober Pedy Regional Times (https://cooberpedyregionaltimes.files.wordpress.com//coobe) with our local Coober Pedy SES unit completing induction training for seven new members. Moving forward with the easing of restrictions, SASES and its members will be remaining vigilant and focussed on sustaining many of the interventions implemented over the last couple of months for a safe and healthy work environment. This includes continuing to promote the importance of personal contributions that everyone can make by: - staying (at least) 1.5 metres away from others - practising good cough and sneeze etiquette - making use of infection control stations at the entrances to units, work sites and other facilities - obtaining a seasonal flu vaccination - downloading the COVIDSafe App onto mobile phones - staying away from the unit or worksite if ill - ensuring worksites are frequently cleaned and sustaining a clean desk policy - washing hands frequently and thoroughly. Together by implementing these simple measures we can all make a difference.

25.01.2022 Congratulations to Max, Unit Manager of Port Lincoln State Emergency Service on being awarded the Emergency Services Medal today.

21.01.2022 Well done Coober Pedy

20.01.2022 The Cummins SES unit welcome three new members who will commence level one training next week. The new volunteers come from varied backgrounds and bring a lot o...f existing skills to the organisation. The level one training is like a workplace induction and prepares volunteers to be able to undertake specialist training. The new members will be well supported by other Lower Eyre Peninsula Units Many thanks to the District Council of Lower Eyre Peninsula, Cummins Area School and local businesses who supported the promotion of the Open Day and Information Night. We look forward to growing the Cummins Unit into a specialist Search & Rescue Unit. There will be another intake planned once the current members have had chance to settle in.

19.01.2022 If you see additional SES vehicles and staff in town over the next four days please say hi and make them feel welcome! We are hosting a number of staff for 4 d...ays. They will be undertaking a number of skills maintenance scenarios as well as run a Basic Rescue training course over the weekend for 6 new volunteers It is a privilege for our volunteers and members to be able to give some of the SASES staff a glimpse at our unique setting here in Coober Pedy and give them an appreciation for our environment in which we regularly carry out rescues. A number of our volunteers have relished the opportunity to attend the skills maintenance sessions and build, and share, their own skill base to continue to support the local community.

19.01.2022 Port Lincoln State Emergency Service exercise training scenario this week

18.01.2022 Farewell from North Region & co Sue joined Metro South SES Unit on 1997 as a volunteer. Was appointed to the position of Rescue Officer in 2000, Training Co-ordinator in 2001, then was appointed Unit Manager in 2003. In December 2005, Sue applied for and was successful in gaining the position of State Training Officer, North Region. Following this role she became the District Officer, Mid North District, North Region. Sue maintains her volunteer involvement with the Lau...ra SES Unit and attends training whenever work commitments allow. Whilst at Metro South SES Unit she realised her talents as a Trainer and with some encouragement from then Controller Keith Lane - gained accreditation as an SES Trainer and Assessor in many skill areas and regularly mentors other volunteer and staff Trainers in her substantive position and own time. Sue was a judge for the National Rescue Competitions 4 times. Husband - Mal (have been together for over 30 years) Is a passionate dog lover, especially to German Short haired Pointers. River and Dewey are the current members of the family and she keeps them trained as well as she trains SES Volunteers. Loves her shooting and has competed in the SAPES Games. She used to sit on the Governance Committee for SAPES Games, and was Agency Co-ordinator. Sue still co-ordinates her own sport at an annual Emergency Services Shoot in the absence of the formal Games. As a result of her promotion and enthusiasm for the Games, SASES won the Mike Bentley Inter Services Trophy in 2012, a feat never achieved before by the SASES. In her spare time, Sue is also Secretary of the local Rifle Club and when time permits, competes regularly in Club and State titles. Sue also took part in the 2012 Worlds Greatest Shave as part of the Mid North Emergency Services Team of which the team was the highest fund raiser raising in excess of $35000 in SA for the Leukaemia Foundation and one an SA Great Award for these efforts. Also supports husband, Mal, with his passion for bowls. She is also a keen gardener on their bush property in Beetaloo, where they both like to hang out and relax with River and Dewey where they can run free.

18.01.2022 Port Lincoln State Emergency Service volunteers undertook joint road crash rescue training with the South Australian Ambulance Service volunteers from Coffin Ba...y along side of relieving team leader from Ceduna. The scenario was set with two persons trapped in the front seats of a four-wheel drive with spinal injuries. A risk assessment was undertaken by the incident controller team leader and crew with a plan for extrication agreed upon with SA Ambulance Service volunteers. Port Lincoln SES regularly train with SA Ambulance Service volunteers and career staff in road crash rescue land search operations and vertical rescue. Many thanks to volunteers from Port Lincoln SES and SA ambulance service and staff who trained last night keeping our community safe in times of emergency or disaster.

16.01.2022 In the lead up to International Men’s Day this Thursday, we’re shining a spotlight on some of the men at the SA State Emergency Service. They will share some of... the highlights of being an SES volunteer as well as what they would say to others out there who are thinking about joining the SES. Say hello to James, a volunteer and Unit Manager at the Port Pirie SES Unit. Helping those in my community, surrounding areas and even on deployment interstate is a very strong motivator for myself. Knowing I have helped people locally and interstate has made me a better person in myself and a very proud member of the Port Pirie SES. For those men or women who are considering becoming an SES volunteer, I would say do it as it gives you a lot of hands-on skills and free national accredited training, connects you with the local community, and you might be able to be deployed as I was. You can become a part of a highly skilled and supportive team, make lifelong friendships and meet some amazing people. You won’t regret one moment.

16.01.2022 Training continues across the Region despite the cold nights and modifications to remain #COVIDsafe. Emergency Services in Roxby Downs joined forces earlier this week discussing the role each agency has at a road crash including showing where equipment is stored should they be asked to get something during a rescue.

15.01.2022 Have a look at what our volunteers have been up to this weekend! Coober Pedy Mine Rescue/SES responded to a triple road train rollover around 120km north of Coo...ber Pedy, Port Lincoln State Emergency Service responded to a vessel that had broken down near Partney Island within the Sir Joseph Banks group of Islands, Western Adelaide SES successfully completed a Rescue from Vehicles in Water course, and South Coast State Emergency Service had a crew at WOMADelaide over the weekend. These are just some of the many things our volunteers do to help the community. Well done to all of them for all their hard work and commitment to keep fellow South Aussies safe. If youre interested to know more about the above, check out their Facebook pages for the full story. 11.01.2022 Huge thanks to SA State Emergency Service and NSW SES for lending a hand in the Ipswich region today They will be out and about with crews from across the s...tate as they continue to assist those affected by the severe storms in south east Queensland. 10.01.2022 Great work by the Coober Pedy Team. well done

10.01.2022 Another busy weekend in North Region with volunteers from Quorn SES and Booleroo Centre SES in completing their Road Crash Rescue Course this past weekend. Great work folks!

08.01.2022 Its great to see Port Lincoln and Tumby Bay State Emergency Service Units undertake joint training tonight in Port Lincoln.

08.01.2022 On Thursday the 9th of April we responded to a call to assist with a flooding residence in Coober Pedy. On arrival, the flooding was found to be due to a burst ...pipe with water entering the residence as a result. Thankfully the leak flowed in to a bathroom with a drain. Unfortunately, due to the large amount of water entering the premises from the leak the nearby shaft used for grey water filled up and didnt allow the water to continue to drain away. Our volunteer members responding, with support from a local contractor, were able to locate the shaft and gain entry to pump excess water from the shaft. This allowed the drains inside to function again and lower the water level inside.

05.01.2022 Its raining in the desert!!! We have had a heavy down pour around 2am this morning and steady rain all day since. With rain comes jobs and despite everything ...happening at the moment our volunteer members are there to support the community! We had a call for assistance soon after 9:30am this morning to assist with flooding in a home. Upon arrival we found that the water was pooling in a section of the roof and leaking as a result of worn rubbers on the roofing screws. Our volunteers were able to sweep the pooled water off and tarp the area of roof affected to stop the leak. *** A reminder that we are still 100% operational and our volunteers are ready and able to respond to support our local community! *** If it is a life threatening emergency please call 000, if you require assistance please call 132 500

It was hot, windy, dusty and often hard work but there were no complaints or grumbles. We do whatever we can to help. You have to love our volunteers.

04.01.2022 RIP Stuart. Many of the North Region team will have attended RCR courses that Stuart has conducted. The roads are a safer place and teams have been well trained to respond to any RCR that has been thrown at them with the skills he passed on. He will be missed by the SES family.
